That's really smart. Bought the EGO string trimmer only to find that two years in, I still couldn't master its clockwise rotation. Their Line-IQ feature doesn't really work; takes control out of operator's hands. So this year they released the carbon fiber multi-head trimmer, which has always rotated counterclockwise (like 20th century industry-standard Stihl), and it's perfect. I love it when like Husqvarna in this example, give customers what THEY want!

Hi. Does it take a brush blade, with no special tools or attachments? (Circular blade similar to a 7.25 circular hand saw.) EDIT To be clear, not a blade for edging, but for clearing brush, small trees, and bushes. (I am looking at the product now.) EDIT Apparently not. I can find nothing on their website regarding what I wanted. Too bad. That would have made this a must buy for me. TY for the video.

I've had this exact trimmer for two years now, its amazing and the battery lasts for ever. I was so impressed with the system that I bought a compatible chainsaw and leaf blower, both are amazing if you are using casually. I certainly wouldn't recommend the saw if you were bucking up several cords of wood every year, but it is perfect for occasional use (an a great tool for overlanding).

I was just thinking the other day how much I would love to change the rotation of my string trimmer so I can get those last few pesky blades of grass at each of my fence posts. I wouldn’t be surprised if companies like Ego, Milwaukee, Toro, etc begin to offer this feature. In my opinion, on something that is electric, it should be standard on every one! Love my Toro 60v trimmer and I loved my Honda 35cc 4stroke. I literally use the Honda with blades for thick stuff only now. Sounded great, sipped gas, but the battery stuff for CERTAIN things are easy to get used to. I’m a Husky guy too. 3 chainsaws, but I’m invested in the 60 V Toro line right now and feel no reason to switch

Something that is highly overlooked in the industry is left handed vs right handed tools. Almost all weedwhackers spin in a way that is much better for righties. Right now other than this the only other weed Wacker (gas and electric) that I have come across that spins for lefties is the Toro 60v 2 stage. As a leftie it’s the one I use everyday commercially and residentially at work. Definitely going to keep this one on the radar

Makita 36v models all have selectable reverse, both the powerhead models with the motor under your arm, and the powered end models with the motor right at the spool. Even one of the 18v models has the option.

These electric OPE tools keep getting better. I just gave away my gas husvarna trimmer to a friend after having my ego carbon fiber for about a year. I love the trimmer, control and how quiet the electric ones are. The EGO with the electric feed of line and auto unspooling (no need to even bump it) tops my list, but counterrotation is a cool concept.

i had one for about 3 years right before ego left home depot. Mine failed month ago and i bought stihl gas because its gonna last me longer and much easier to repair. I took apart my ego trimmer and mostly everything is soldered and diagnosing is tuff.

I had the ego for 6 months. Hated it so much I got rid of it. The auto load head is great. Until it fails. Then you can bin the whole thing as it's not repairable. The auto feed head never works and you spend all your time wishing you had more line until when you least expect it you get a ton more line and destroy what ever you were edging. I'm using a stihl at the moment as this model is yet to come to Australia but I can't recommend the ego.. it was junk. The lawn mower and blowers are great... but stay away from the 1620/1624.

@briancnc that's strange indeed. I thought so too. But... I've been through 2 of them. First one used a whole line of string on a quarter acre property.by the time I was done the guard was so banged up from being hit by too much string that it looked 12 months old. Returned it. Second one was ok but finicky for the first 5 or 6 months. Then the auto load head stopped working. Repaired under warranty. Took about 5 weeks. Got it back and the LineIQ was working poorly again. Looked at the reviews and saw many others with the same experience. Gave up on the unit. Glad yours is working but I'm really happy to be back on a normal bump feed head.

Agreed, people will say the old way is fine. It's not, I hate it and no matter how careful I was it would always snag after loading it and took me 10x longer. People have to remember a pro that does this al day long has different needs than homeowners who want easy and good results.

It looks pretty nice. The problem is with these battery products, once you decide to stick with one brand and buy multiple products, it's kind of a waste to then buy something else from a competitor. I have the Ego weed wacker, hedge trimmer, walk behind lawn mower, leaf blower and two chainsaws. There's simply no way I'm going to buy a weed wacker from Husqvarna because it goes in both directions.

The perfect balance is honestly one of the best features, in my opinion. My grandmother loves working in her garden, and a lot of the battery powered trimmers aren't balanced well, and put a lot of strain on her wrists, arms, and back, so it limits the amount she can do with the energy she has. I feel like the balance would take a lot of strain off your wrists and back and let someone like her get more done with the same amount of energy.

Great points! This is a tool that feel and control are everything. Side by sides of these just let the most powerful win. I had a pro Stihl gas trimmer. I couldn't handle it, it snagged on everything was just too much. When I got my first Makita my beds finally could be edged like a pro, so much nicer. Thus Husqvarna has all my good Makita points and now more. Comfort and control are key.

Absolutely love my Husqvarna gear. I have all the tools (blowers, trimmers, chainsaw, pole saw, etc.) and a ton of batteries. The oldest batteries still run like new, going on some seven years already. Similarly, I also have all the EGO yard care gear with loads of batteries. I do like the EGO a lot, but I sure love my Husqvarna. Capable and much easier to use.

$249 at Lowe's until 6-22-2023. As far as I can tell this thing uses a 10S pack and a speed control just like we use on model airplanes and helis. It's got a soft start and a brake typical for airplane use. Lots of deadband until you squeeze the trigger enough to get it spinning. It also uses Anderson Power poles for the battery connectors which actually saves money by not having to design proprietary connectors. All in in all this review is spot on. The acid test comes tomorrow. I have a lot of weed eating to do. Not a big fan of battery yard tools but this thing may not be too bad.

It’s a very good trimmer, use 3 of them on my commercial rig with 9ah batteries. The Husqvuarna hedge trimmer is good too. Their chainsaws and blowers are not good. Have yet to use the push mower.

I like the husqvarna stuff, feels good, does well, some of my favorite equipment. The two big reasons I stopped using them is husqvarna dealers and parts are hard to find around me. Second, you will definitely need it, the residential stuff is not great. I've had gas weed eaters die in one season. I cant speak for the electric stuff tho. I am glad they adopt the speed feed head though. The old ones sucked so hard lol especially when you put it on the wrong when and then when you try to bump feed it would just lock up and get tangled.

Think it depends on whether the Husq is store bought vs from a dealer. I ultimately went with their blower/vacuum because of price and availaibilty (I wanted the Stihl, but the better dealers were dragging their feet on inventory). I could tell it ran pretty poorly out of the box (a normal customer would have returned it)- I immediately reset and tuned the carb- and it's now just like all my other gas powered engines that kick on pull #3 with the choke before starting, after a long term winter storage. The dealer will tune the carb. My Echo 230 trimmer ran like garbage for 2-3 years upon purchase despite being sold as a pro model...the carb ended up getting trashed simply because I didn't have good fuel storage practices. When I installed another carb and tuned it, and took care of the fuel, it became my easiest to start engine which is now 14 years old.

That is nice. I have the Milwaukee trimmer, I really like it compared to any gas one I've used. Has plenty of power and runtime, but is a little heavy. Got it on sale with a 9Ah battery for $250 at northern tool a few years ago. Too good to pass up. I wish it did have that reverse feature. No reason a brushless motor shouldn't have that by default anyway. It adds almost 0 cost.

my favorite feature after seeing the charger is that it doesn't use a proprietary connector, but is instead anderson powerpoles. It might still communicate in some proprietary way, but maybe not and it's simple.

I have the Milwaukee trimmer. I’ve had echo and some others in the past. I hate them all lol. The Milwaukee is nice because I don’t have to deal with gas. With an 8.0 battery I have like 30 minutes or so run time. Which would be fine, if the damn bump head worked like it was supposed to. I have yet to find one that works. I’m not an idiot and I can follow instructions, but these things make me feel like one because I can’t get the bump head to work past the first few uses 😢.

ok, so I did some research. When it comes to battery operated lawn equipment. I learned that most only come with a one year warranty and the Batteries typically need to be replaced once every three years. This is the big problem with battery operated lawn equipment. When it comes to replacing the batteries a new battery usually cost almost the same as a brand new unit. For me I will continue buying gas lawn equipment as I usually buy a new weed eater every 12 to 15 years. For me at least its not a good deal. That's my take one it.

My favorite feature of my (B&D) trimmer is how I can easily rotate the end by 180 degrees, so I can hold the handles the same way, but either edge with it or trim flat with it, because I do both. I see here you're sort of holding the side of the handle to do the edging, is that awkward or does it feel ok? (because I hate my trimmer otherwise)

@@mfonix I believe it is the LST136. I can walk almost normal speed down my sidewalk and cut a straight edge that makes the whole yard look better, then flip it around in seconds to trim flat. BTW, I said I hated the trimmer, because the auto-feeding feature was working poorly, but I watched a few KZbin videos and learned how to easily replace a $5 part so it works perfectly again now.

You are also referring to _attachments_ that may be put on the _shaft._ FYI: What I want, as do many other people, can be done with a few _GAS_ trimmers. IIRC, one or more Stihls may be able to do that with absolutely nothing else but what is already on the trimmer, you just have to buy the circular brush blade. Not true. I bought the greenworks 82 volt commercial kit a few years back and their old string trimmer model, which is now discontinued, has a reverse feature.
