It’s always the calf’s showing out! Adolescents are calm and mind their own. Probably because the adults whipped them into shape after showing out as calf’s!😂❤

Elephant calves do not have certain vital digestive enzymes in their alimentary canal ('guts'). Adults do, and that includes his/her mother! The only way for the calf to get them INTO its won system is to ingest some from her mothers waste, which whilst it may look horrendous, it is actually simply fresh warm & wet vegetable material. What you witnessed was therefore - a perfectly natural and almost everyday event.

It’s so weird to compare the intellectual and emotional sophistication of elephants with their extremely touchy and unsophisticated digestive system. When orphaned infants are fed cow’s milk, for example, they die, and their deaths are painful and prolonged. It doesn’t matter what medical intervention is attempted, the outcome is the same. It took 20 years of repeated heartbreak for Daphne Sheldrick to successfully concoct a formula, but the Trust still inexplicably loses infant calves when they cut their first teeth. The difficulty appears to be in the digestive tract.

Baby sloths are pretty cute too!! As for the cute baby elly, I don't know for sure if the word I'm thinking is in its vocabulary, but I'm imagining it saying to itself, 'what is this sh**? Tasty morsels and I hear it's good for me!'

It's kind of food for every calf in the world. If calve don't eat it that should be surprised and help them to eat, because they will not have enough immune to bad bacteria when eat rough food and many thing, and to make the body adapt with rough food.

Hate to tell ya, folks, but I have had to help human adults do this life saving practice. There is an epidemic of digestive disease in the US due to antibiotic overuse. It is called C-Dif for short and results in debilitating diarrhea...........and can easily lead to death. The first treatment is specific antibiotics....but when they don't work the only choice is to do a "fecal transplant." A donation is obtained from an adult who shares living space with the patient........and this donation must progress through the GI system of the victim to rebalance the GI flora to the natural state.........including re-introduction of home environment conditions. It works.

That doesn't work. these r deathly ill people who need not only normal flora replacement, but normal for each person. That is why the donor must live with the patient.
@ayokay123

I was under the impression that the donor had to be a genetically related family member, no?

+ayokay 123 Not for a stool transplant.....they generally are related because they share the living environment. Husbands and wives often provide the specimen.

Ewwww He WAS a cute little phant!! Charging at the photographer up goes his ears into the “We are gonna fight, you and I right now!” position. His tail wagging and his trunk up high ready for an attach and when he engages in his fight, he will need his trunk up high so he can use it to swing down and slap his opponent with it like a weapon. So he takes about 3 small steps towards the photographer in his practice charge attack, just to stop and start flapping his happy ears back and forth. Silly little baby! Then he looks more like a puppy than a great big fierce elephant!! Lol He was sure cute until the very end there. I understand him needing to smell his moms poop, it really is gross but it’s necessary for his survival. This is about the only chance he has to find his mom if they got split up. He needs to be able to find his mothers sent and the other elephants in his herd to locate them and the only way he’d have to locate her smell is by smelling her droppings. That is how elephants work, like it or not this is a matter of life or death to know. A lot of baby elephants are very naughty and tend to wander away from their herd. This is probably the most common way baby elephants die is wandering away being naughty on purpose often and getting separated long enough that the herd moves on and abandons the baby elephant. If the baby does not know his mother sent enough to smell her and follow her sent through the poops left behind he would surely die of dehydration, starvation or become a meal to lions tigers or hyenas, or many other dangerous animals like crocodiles and snakes. There are poachers out there that are likely to either kill baby elephants or take them and sell them black market they would end up an exotic pet or in a circus or eventually a zoo. Elephants are not meant to wander alone even as adults in the wild they are highly social and need the herd for protection. The point here is at the very end this gross little phant decided that poop smelled too good to not start eating it and that part was so sick!!! Nothing good is gonna come outa that 💩! If his mom was paying attention to her baby she probably would have raised her trunk up high and swung it down and slapped him silly! Gross little baby elephant that made him not near as cute for sure. 🤢 🤮!
