Great video, and better tips. Went to a seminar with Jason Phelps and he is preaching the same stuff, so this must be the winning formula. I have recently been looking at the Marsupial gear, after your podcast, its on the list of gear to buy. See you guys at TAC this week!

great video, I got a marsupial gear bino harness last year and I am loving it so far! I was once told that deer (or elk) have to be lucky every minute of every day, you just have to be lucky once. when I was getting frustrated not seeing any deer my first time bow hunting. that stuck with me and keeps me going if im starting to get down. Tim, I have the vortex diamondback 10x50 and love them! they are the best all around power (IMO) and with the 50mm objective they gather a bunch of light and my FOV is great.

Guys keep up the great work. Love your honest reviews and passionate content. Because of your review I bought and just received my marsupial enclosed chest pack with the buckle delete kit. For those of you who want the pack to ride higher up on your chest and/or for a more slim profile get the buckle delete kit. Works great.

Definitely some good advice on hunting herd bulls. I have yet to go elk hunting but I know from turkey 🦃 hunting that I can’t run a diaphragm call. So sneaky it is, even with the Phelps EZ Bugle and SukR now available for guys like me. Congratulations to Jake for being the bigger man and taking the multi cam even with Tim’s trash talking afterwards. Lol 😆 It’s interesting how similar products come out at the same time. With two digiscope products in this Magview and the Ollin that Eric Chesser is promoting. Competition is always good. 😎🏹🇺🇸

The closest I was to elk was day before opening day 2006. 80 yards from 30 of them. But we waited and never got that close again over the next 4 years before I had to give it up. People I hunted with were not patient at all. Constantly calling and moving to the next area. I’d love to go with you guys once to get that thrill!
@justanham21892 жыл бұрын
In total agreement with you! Too many people don’t play the patient game and call way less.

I just went from the marsupial harness to the stone glacier harness, reason being is the magnets. I had several occasions last year deep in the back country that the magnets were messing with my GPS’s compass and would have to hold my phone about an arms length away from my body before it would correctly align. I moved to a non magnet setup for this year.

Another cool video. Tim those binoculars looked like the Leupold Cascades. If that's what they are nothing wrong with them at all. I've been running mine for over 10 years and there still a great piece of glass. I know there's newer but unless your stepping up to some Swarovski's spend your money on something else. Newer is not always better or substantially better that you need to run out and get the latest and greatest. My buddy has Swarovski's and I always out glass him with my Cascade's. It just might not be the glass but the nut behind the glass.

I was very fortunate to see these in person at Bull Basin Archery in flagstaff and immediately knew I had to get one! The olive green and coyote brown are sick colorways! Interestingly enough I seen mystery ranch with a very “SIMILIAR” design. I’ll stick to marsupial that’s for sure.
@dlawrence91742 жыл бұрын
Interesting advice on calling less. Quite different than the approach taken by Cory Jacobson (Elk 101), the Born and Raised Outdoors crew, and Dirk Durham, and Phelps! Even though they are expert callers, the idea of engaging bulls in a manner that triggers aggression is well founded

Marsupial makes the best bino harnesses and pouches. They’re located a few miles from my house in Phoenix. I was using their gear for a year before I even realized that.
@tjames5252 жыл бұрын
I love the Marsupial enclosed harness with rangefinder pouch and small zippered pouch. I have a Nikon black rangefinder and the standard size rangefinder pouch was way too tight for my liking so I had to order the large pouch. Pretty awesome setup now if only they would get their rain covers in stock.

Great content. Id be curious to see Jakes honest opinion on gear storage capacity between the Marsupial vs the AGC harness. Marsupials are slick, but harder to hold your EXTRA necessities it seems. Also that Magview looks like a great piece of gear, has the sun reflection through the gap been a problem? Lastly dont throw away old gear, gotta have backups for your backups ya know. Thanks gentlemen.

Love my Marsupial gear. IMO the holster is a bad idea though. I carry a 10mm G20 and I just run my IWB CCW rig. The gun weighs too much to mount under there and sucks if you have to move quickly and on long hikes bouncing around as it does. Bear spray or an IFAK is a better option for that bottom lash point.

exit pupil size early vs late light. 10x42 has 4.2 exit pupil your young eyes can dilate to 5.5. 8x40 with exit pupil of 5 delivers almost as much light as your eyes can use early and late. I find I can see a bit better early and late with an 8x42.

@Akay Its the only way to go if you wanna kill the herd bull. If you just wanna kill any bull then get those calls out and start honking. Ive been hunting elk for 27 yrs killed over 20 bulls all montana public land. Ive made every mistake there is to make and Ive learned alot of valuable lessons along the way. Im no corey jacobson at calling either so I play to my strengths!! Good luck to u this upcoming season!

Glassing is great….if you hunt in areas you can glass. Got any advise for dark timber and flat, dense boreal forest hunting??
@gremnutl2 жыл бұрын
Not from personal hunting experience in those environments, but just what I learned when researching what binos I wanted. They work really well for picking animals out and separating them from the surrounding vegetation, so hunting in forests they are just as useful. I would suggest get lower powered binoculars because you aren't going for huge distances, and ones with a larger objective lens which means more light passed through to your eye which will help in darker woods (look up binocular exit pupil)

You don’t have to be a world champion caller to call animals in. Knowing what call and when to use it are the keys to success. Not all animals of the same species sound identical. I’ve heard some calls I thought sounded like shit and whoever made that call didn’t have a clue, but it turned out to be the real deal.
