I'd argue that Scott Tenorman Must Die was the game changer for South Park as it created the Cartman we know, love, and despise for the rest of the series. It also shaped their story arc writing for the rest of the series and focused less on subplots and more on the main plot in episodes. Make Love, Not Warcraft is an incredible episode, but without Scott Tenorman Must Die I don't see it happening.

@@robby7499 Agreed. It was also the first episode I remember watching thinking "Holy shit, I can't believe they went there." South Park has done as good of it not better holy shit moments since then (Scientology, Muhammad, etc), but without the critical acclaim from fans and critics I don't think they would have ever pushed as far or as hard as they have. They were crass, vulgar, and non-PC before STMD, but that episode opened the doors to basically do whatever they want and know they would for the most part not face severe backlash (that is until the whole Muhammad debacle).

Scott Tuckerman is definitely the Magnum Opus, but being that might not mean it’s the best piece of work. I think Make Love not Warcraft has it edged out in that it is everything South Park does right at its best and was huge in pop culture on it’s release.

This was the episode that made me fall in love with South Park. Even after all these years, I think it's still my favorite, despite having not played WoW in years. It blew my mind as to just how spot-on they got with both how the game felt and what it was like trying to explain to others who don't play. It was probably one of the first times I felt seen as a viewer.
@SRosenberg203

Same. The reason I love that episode so much is because I played WoW, and they were just so 100% accurate about virtually every aspect of the game, even down to the big "battle" taking place in the Arathi Highlands, which is where all the massive PvP battles would take place before the Honor System and Battlegrounds were added to the game. Massive random battles against the Alliance in that zone was some of the most fun I ever had playing WoW.

I have to say that this episode is one of my favorites. It's hard to pick one favorite but any list I can think of this one is in the top 3. @@ohnobro1424 sometimes artists hate the work they make. They only have a week to make each episode and by the end of this one Trey just didn't think it was funny. He was so concerned he begged their producer not to air it because he thought it would destroy the legacy of South Park. Apparently hating the episode is something that happens almost every week but once they get some distance from it they like it again. This is why they have the one episode a week schedule even though that's unheard of in any other animation studios; because if they spend more than a week they'll keep adjusting things and never be fully satisfied with it, to the point of making it worse (that and also for the ability to stay very up to date on news/trends/memes)

For me my favorite episode is “The Mystery of the Urinal Deuce.” It pokes fun at the thriller trope and conspiracy theorists with two separate mystery plot lines. The main one involving Stan and Kyle trying to figure out what caused 9/11, and a comic relief one involving Mr. Mackey trying to figure out which student took a crap in a urinal. At the end, both plots were cleverly brought together when Stan revealed that he took the crap in the urinal to draw attention away from the 9/11 mystery, covering it up. The episode also spawned some great memes, such as the Mr Mackey moments and the Hardley Boys. Even as someone who hates the thriller genre, I have always loved this episode. It made me die from laughing at times while still keeping me engaged in what was going on.

There's a lot of episodes I love for different reasons but I'm not sure this one can crack my top 5. "You have 0 friends" is a brilliant ahead of it's time episode that basically predicts how powerful social media will become with great social commentary. "Best friends forever" combines the release of the PSP with the issues of the Terri Schiavo case in an impossibly hilarious and sometimes touching way. I have a huge soft spot for the guitar queer-o episode as well since I got hella caught up in the guitar hero / rockband wave back in the day. Regardless Make Love not Warcraft is definitely an iconic episode that got a lot of people into the show and I respect the decision.

I'll be forever grateful that I grew up from the age of 10 with this in my life. I remeber my friend telling me about this show and when I was at Blockbuster with my mom later that week I actually found it in the "for sale" section and showed her the tape and asked if we could buy it. It was a VHS of the first 2 episodes 2 epispdes and I got it! I remeber laughing so hard while watching it and I wanted to share my laughter with someone but I knew my parents' wouldn't be a fan of the language and would possibly not allow me to watch it until I was older. So, I decided to take it and show my Grandpa because he had already introduced me to all of Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and George Carlin's stand up. I figured he'd love it and, just as I thought, while we were watching it he had the same reaction I did! It was amazing! That is until he asked my mom and dad if they knew what it was about. Which wound up with my parents prohibiting it for a year and a half. I had to wait until I was in middle school. Oh well. I regret nothing and am happy my grandpa and I got to share that laughter together. R.I.P. Grandpa ✌️

My personal favorite is "Tegridy Farms" the introduction the the Randy we see today. I thought this video would of chose "You're Getting old" and "Ass Burgers" being the the part 2. That little 2 part episodes is just one of the best, but "Make Love, Not Warcraft" is a straight classic and I cannot be mad about it being chosen.

I still remember where I was sitting when the first ad for it appeared on Comedy Central. My brothers and I were really exited because we had been into WOW for like two weeks. I remember when the episode aired and my cousins came over, we watched this episodes first airing with some Rockstar and Papa Murphy’s pizza. This episode helped us convince our cousins to play WOW. I miss the times.

It’s crazy cuz one of the creators did not want to publish this episode because they thought it was so bad that it would ruin the image of South Park. He was even suicidal over it, but his team convinced him to let it be released and it turned out to be one of the most loved South Park episodes of all time

I still remember hearing about this episode while all my friends and I were in our first year of vanilla wow. We were in grade 12, and all got together for the episode. One of the best, even tho they thought themselves it was gonna be their worst. The end scene certainly made is reconsider how much time we put it after school, as we didn’t want to end up like the 4.

Did you coined the terms Game (creation of comedic patterns centers around unusual behaviour) and Mapping (process of exploring an idea through a completely different scenario)?
@christopherteregis9151
@christopherteregis9151 2 жыл бұрын
The concept of game is actually a philosophy taught in improv schools, and the primary focus of the sketch comedy/improv training at the Upright Citizen's Brigade theater in Los Angeles and New York. There are a cadre of different approaches to game, and mapping is just one of them.
