Thanks for the critique, Scott! I’ll be sure to go back in and fill up that page. I also really liked that last bit about line quality. Extremely helpful.

A suggestion for you guys, if you are not confident showing your craft to others you can slowly build up confidence by just showing your craft to your friends and family members, just remember not to get caught up trying to make something for someone and do it for yourself, not sure if this one will work but well just giving some ideas. For ones that have no clear direction in mind, just do what the guy above me said ask yourself why you want to do art. If you have the bigger picture than you can achieve right now break it down to small tasks like some sort of checklist, hope this could potentially be of use to anyone as it helped me keep my mind straight. One more thing check out a video on Dopamine Detox, might be useful.

Almost no one has confidence in their craft. Even artists with 15+ years of experience talk about this. Put the ego aside and just do the art thing.

One thing I find works for me is to have a private sketchbook which I show to no one-like a diary, and I try things out there and am okay with things turning out bad. It helps me get started. (Surprisingly, sonetimes things happen in there that are more interesting than my “public” sketchbooks.)

It's SUPER inspiring to know that one of my favorite (if not, my favorite) graphic novel series, Bone, is also acknowledged and appreciated by professionals. I'm sure many are aware of its existence and beauty, but it is a series that is mostly discussed by younger people or nostalgic adults that read it during middle school. It is one of my inspirations and I own the whole collection so I am happy to see it get talked about more.

Mister, I must say, you speak wisdom. I have gone past my chance to be an artist but my creative inner self was taking it all in.

We tell youselves BS like that because we dont really want to do the work/ practice to build skills. Its a cop out to soothe our ego to tell ourselves "I would have been great but [insert excuse]". Its never too late to be an artist.

This guy didn't even comment on the character designs, or evaluate his imagination. Instead he criticized not filling up the page , or calling his characters lumpy , while his own pumpkin creatures were lumpy themselves. Besides the person that submitted their work was doing an under sea theme, so there certainly lumpy creatures in the ocean. We didn't even get a good look at the creature designs. I mean the were humanoid creatures coming out of sea shells. This guy just shot this person down on things that had no bearing on the person's design skills.
