UPDATE- After just a few months with this exhaust, the entire inside of the muffler is COVERED in rust, so I had to uninstall it. Unfortunately, this seems to be a recurring issue with this particular exhaust because it’s made from mild steel and not stainless steel. Vance & Hines said that they’re getting with their engineering team to see if they can also coat the inside of the pipe to prevent this issue in the future. Until then, I unfortunately can’t recommend this exhaust anymore. BUT with that said, I’ve since found another great exhaust made by Coffman’s, swapped to that, and absolutely love it. It has better build quality, more benefits, and costs $100 less. You can check out the install/review of that exhaust here!- kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4C0c4mcd6aMd6ssi=dmEtWyyefP80zoAA

When tinkering around or changing an exhaust on any modern motorcycle 🏍️ you want to let the bike idle for 10-15min before reving or riding. This allows the ECM computer to get used to the air and fuel and to the exhaust itself. I did this when I changed my stock exhaust on my 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 to a Red Rooster exhaust. Great video. Great sounding V&H. God bless 🙏

You mentioned that you would have preferred a lower exhaust. The setup on your bike is intended to make it look like the Scramblers of old, but the disadvantage is the same now as it was then. It's a hot little booger right next to your right leg! Looks super cool but is a hot pain in the ass (literally) in the real world. I prefer the exhaust setup on the CB500F, but I prefer the layout (especially the seat) on your Scrambler. So...the ultimate would be a mosh of those two bikes! :)

Do what I did with one of my bikes. I used a cardboard tube cut to the angles I needed and took it to a muffler shop, to make that 2 foot pipe with the bends I needed. They had the correct size pipe. Made the bends to match my mock up pipe, and they had an expanding tool they opened up the end to my measurements, I needed to attach to the head pipe. I fabbed up a top mounting bracket that my buddy welded to the pipe. Then I bought a universal aluminum SuperTrapp muffler to fit my pipe. looks and sounds great.

Honda (and most other manufacturers) de-tune their products to meet standards of EPA and other such agencies. That means, leaner fuel mapping, stuffed-up exhaust, denser air-filter, colder spark-plugs, etc. Therefore, there are a few things that can be readily “upgraded” to maximize performance without sacrificing reliability or negatively impacting the environment (too much). First, i like to replace the stock spark plugs with iridium plugs (if available for the vehicle). Though, these can be pricey ($12-15 per plug), they last 100,000 miles, produce a brighter, more uniform, snappier ignition, that improves mpg and bhp! The plugs make a noticeable difference that provide consistent performance. Next, the “Booster Plug” is a plug-n-play super easy install that enriches the fuel-mapping without negatively impacting the motor’s reliability or mpg (actually may increase mpg in some scenarios). [A “Power Commander” performs a similar function but is a more invasive install as it is piggy-backed onto the ECU which may void mnfcrs warranty and can damage the bike if not programed by a professional mechanic). Next, an oiled air-filter, such as a K&N filter charger, improves air intake volume/velocity and claims to unleash upto 5 bhp. But be warned, if the filter is not regularly cleaned and re-oiled, (especially if bike sees excessively dusty conditions), piston ring damage is possible … ask me how i know! Lastly, the exhaust pipe upgrade sounds awesome, enhances the appearance and can open up 1-3bhp but only if a free-flowing air filter is installed. The things listed above will incrementally improve the overall performance of the engine without breaking the budget. Nice bike and can’t wait to see more videos of it’s make-over!

@michaeljaca7831 Жыл бұрын
I really think the design of the muffler and the reason why the bottom is bigger is due to the fact it's a stress point because the fact that it goes all the way up it and the weight of it can easily snap it so I believe it strengthen the point in the exhaust to prevent it from snapping from the vibration and bumps.
@jmackinjersey1 Жыл бұрын
There are enough connection points on the stock unit so that there isn't going to be any undue stress on the lower portion of the pipe. Factory mufflers are designed to make the bike as quiet and have less heat radiate off of them, as well as emissions and fuel economy all mixed in. This is why they are the way they are, and it is one of, if not the first mod motorcycle owners make.
@victoriazero8869 Жыл бұрын
@@jmackinjersey1 The catalytic converter is still there. Most of the weight is definitely vibration dampening and heat insulation. And sound baffles. I noticed that Vince has no baffles whatsoever.
