You can buy universal fit fiberglass rear fenders. Get the width you need. Then cut, grind, sand smooth and paint. Drill and mount the light of your choice, wire it up. Bikes are a never ending project.

I think the fender itself looks great. Maybe an aftermarket without the lights and then put small turn signals by the seat. Deleting the whole fender would take away from the scrambler look. Honestly, that's not the worst light/fender setup from factory. I actually don't mind it.

I have a top case, engine guards, barkbuster handguards, and a 12 volt charging socket that has definitely come in handy. Im sure the CL500 will be an excellent bike to mod and would probably look great with some handguards imo. Also, you convinced me to get the XR150L and absolutely love it!

You’re spot on with the rear light assembly. See the pic attached but I would go with removing the support angled bracket leaning against the light assembly and then shifting this whole lot to butt up against the rear of the seat You would keep the existing fender but would only have a single hole as the other would remain covered when shifting the whole assembly forward on the fender *can’t add a pic*

Own the CL - ordered the rear rack as it looks to fill the gap between the seat/rear light, so will likely leave the rear mudguard/fender intact. Waiting for the Arrow Exhaust to come in stock, being an Italian company easier/cheaper than importing a V&H for EU and prefer to looks. Check out the Japanese custom scene, they have lots of cool stuff for the SCL/CL already :) Cool videos, great to have you owning the same bike for ideas.

Im 60 and have been riding for 45 years, this bike is the most fun on 2 wheels I have ever had. I added 2 inch risers and now standing is a breeze, I am waiting for a full exhaust that reroutes the lower pipe from the bottom to get more ground clearance, then a bash plate. Its a shame no one is making a 4-500 twin thats ready to go out of the box offroad, the thumpers are nice but suck on the road for 70-75 road use
@LifeOfBurch Жыл бұрын
Agreed that this thing is an absolute blast! It’ll definitely be interesting to see if/when someone makes an exhaust that doesn’t route under the bike. I feel like it’ll be kinda tricky with how far the right side cover sticks out. It would free up SO much ground clearance though! You could always consider a cat-less Rebel 500 header mated with a shorty tip in the meantime? The cat-less pipe should at least free up an inch or two of clearance I would think 🤔
@RKmndo Жыл бұрын
A skidplate and dirt-capable tires? I ordered a Mitas E07 rear and E09 front for my wife's Leoncino Trail 500. I went 1 size skinnier and 1 profile higher than stock, for similar OD but better dirt "bite". You could just swap the taillights/reflectors. Fill the holes in the fender with epoxy, then paint.
@hvymax Жыл бұрын
The exhaust transition is probably to compensate for the extra bends in the exhaust. If you need help with fabrication let me know. That exhaust would probably be better just below the passenger peg.

Reckon to cut the rear fender down (fit micro LED lighting for a cleaner look (micro front blinkers too). Plastic weld any holes in the rear guard & colour match it to the tank. Reckon these bikes would look wicked as with a front race number cowl above the head light light like the early eighties XR's and colour matched to tank with the number section in black (to match frame). Change rear shocks to an inch longer (adjustable) and fronts, add screw in extenders (1.5inch) complete with either decent cartridges or progressive springs. Finally, a blacked out custom engine bash plate.

My friend, you talk a lot and fast, I think it might be good if at the end of your videos, you just show some quiet riding for like 10 seconds. Just some engine coming around a corner, pulling forward at a light, light to moderate maneuvers, etc. And then fade out. I like the things you say, and I like the video, but I can't hear your engine at all and it sounds nice for a 500. All the best!

Love the bike! You should buy another one and keep this one as-is. then mod the other. Anyway, if you go with a low exhaust, the three mount points at the top could then be used for a small fake Apache box for tools, gloves etc from Harbor Freight. Might have to fab up a or bolt together a bracket. Keep the fender stock but look for smaller rear lights.
@davidwarren9204 Жыл бұрын
The right rear rack (and maybe a little toolbag), could 'disappear' the lights etc underneath it. It wouldn't need to be big, just something that pulls your eyes to see different lines than the current lumpy stuff. You could also consider eg leaving the red light, but replacing the blinkers with minis. To me each individual part looks fine but, altogether, they are kind of too bulky and bulbous for the clean, simple lines of the bike.
@R0ast_B33f Жыл бұрын
I think It would look really good with the fender completely removed. I bet you could make one of the NRC monkey or XSR tail tidy/taillights work on there. I had a CB500X as my first bike and it was great, engine just peppy enough for the highway but forgiving enough to stop me from getting hurt. Suspension wise, I put heavier oil in the forks and it helped a lot.

All this talk about removing the rear fender. Do that on any bike then take it for an offroad run thru some mud. Then these geniuses will see what the fender is on there for. If you want a bobber, buy one and keep it on the road. As for Honda, thats smart, build an on/off road bike and put the hottest pat of the exhaust where it will easily contact dry grasses. The Fire Department will really love you, so will the neighbors whose building get burned down.
