By way of introduction, I am a 73 year old Vietnam veteran having served 4 years in the Navy, spending nearly 3 years at sea. I went on to become a social worker for nearly 45 years..many of those as a child protective caseworker. As such, I have seen the worst of our society. Please do as others have advised, do not read the comments of those sad individuals whose only purpose in life appears to be spreading hate and decension. You two are absolutely amazing. Not only by the fact that you are so adventurous. The fact that you have done this on your own initiative, intelligence, skills and work ethic. I particularly enjoy watching as you encounter each new challenge and the manner in which you resolve the problem with research and intelligent , reasoned thought. Jade, you are absolutely kick ass and I am saddened and angry that, even in a small way, these hateful individuals have caused you any distress. You two are the perfect complement to each other. a I would be terribly disappointed not to be able to vicariously participate in your future expeditions where ever they may lead. I have a 24 foot O'Day that I only sail on fresh water. That is why I appreciate the journey you are undertaking since I missed my opportunity to do the same. Stay safe, stay strong.

I'm pretty sure the deck ladder into the forward head means it was designed as the entry for the crew into their crew quarters. The burlwood used for the cabinetry inlays was a real standout! In this case I think the gloss varnish added favoprably to the look! That placard with the routed out number was more likely the USCG documentation number which is required to be displayed for courtesy inspections. Also the mizzen mast didn't have a "main" sail. The mizzen just supported the foresail on its forestay with a self-tacking boom The point is significant and I thought deserved mentioning.
@kayakingforthebirds25062 жыл бұрын
This is a staysail schooner. It has a Mainmast aft and a Foremast forward. It has a main sail on the mainmast. It has a main staysail on the stay which runs from the base of the foremast to the top of the main mast. It has a forestay which runs from the bow to a point most of the way up on the foremast. A fore staysail would normally be hung from that forestay, though this boat does not have one in place. And it has a jib or genoa rolled up on the stay that goes from the tip of the bowsprit to the top of the foremast. It's actually not nearly as complicated as it sounds. :-) There is no mizzen anything on a schooner. That would be a ketch or yawl or various other more complex configurations.

Thank you for the tour of this superb yacht. Always been a fan of Cherubini's. My only criticism of this masterpiece is the in-mast furling and the varnished sole: Chuck the main mast and replace with a sailpak. All in-mast or in-boom furling has been an absolutely nutty development by designers over the years. No sole should be varnished. Splash some water on there and see what happens next when you're in a hurry.

It is a very interesting design. I am no fan of "wet heads", yet you can go from the deck to that main head, without messing up the rest of the cabins - probably why the bright work and wood work were so SHINY! Great boat - I bet she is fast with fair conditions and an experienced crew! They often say it can be "short handed". I really do not like this - esp on these boats - I mean sure - with a great crew - two or three could probably manage it well, even in rough weather. In bad weather - ALL HANDS ON DECK! I wonder if she could race at 10 knots - to out run a slow storm (or vector away). Anyway - hurricanes generally run over 11 knows IIRC - on average. Fair winds!

Thanks for the walk-through, now I know how 'the other half' sail (more like 2%) ! There didn't seem to be adequate birthing for the cleaning/polishing crew in addition to the deck crew... :) Maybe they sailed alongside, like a tender does to a battleship! I missed getting up-close with the engine, perhaps that was the part under construction. I imagine if Captain Q had shown this boat he would have vanished midway through and become a stowaway.
@davidwootton6832 жыл бұрын
Thankyou for taking the trouble to share this with us. Here are my thoughts on her. Is that the only Helm on the aft end ? I would say to work on that engine would be real fun. Especially in a heaving sea. She has a nice layout. But more time, and effort has been spent on the finishes than on the engine compartment which is a vital part of her operations. And one can see why it looks like it does. You cannot get at the other side, how do you do checks, and repairs? I would also take off $60,000.00 + off the price. That engine is going to need a lot of work on it in the future.

Some people have no imagination that they can’t figure out that you could tell someone hey I’m gonna give your boat exposure to more people who might be interested in buying it and it won’t cost you a thing. Especially once you establish yourself as you have and you can show them here’s our KZbin channel and some of the other boats we’ve done walk-throughs on. And as you say it’s a win-win all the way around. Owner has a better chance of finding someone to buy their boat broker gets exposure at no expense and you can make your money off your videos. So keep up the good work and try to ignore the naysayers a little bit. Take care of that lovely family of yours and happy sailing when the time finally comes.

That clipper bow and overhanging stern mean you have the accommodations of a 40', but with two keel stepped masts in the cabin. Niche boat for a niche buyer, but if this is your thing, she's as good as it gets.

Interior. I adore the classic yacht finish. When I upgrade to this type of vessel, I want the feel of a YACHT! The aesthetic (lack of) abidance of the French boats is that the square cornered, construction grade, Hotel 6, cabinetry and furnishings, feels like the Yugo of boatness. (Yes, I made that word up.) In contrast, this yacht has elegance and class. I really hope this vessel sails well, because otherwise, one has an expensive condo with a 360 degree water view. So, dude, speak to me of sailing, because otherwise a barge with an elegant interior is the competition.
@lisaoakley80322 ай бұрын
The trends in sailboat design, exterior and interior, is lamentable to me as well. No one seems to care about elegance, class, ventilation, or seaworthiness these days. There are a few exceptions, including Passport, Island Packet, Rustler, and Outbound. It is a shame that these boat 'tours' usually have no sailing in them, kind of like an auto review while parked. The Cherubini 48 is known to be an excellent combination of performance and seaworthiness. Steve O

Year: 1983 Location: Palm Beach, FL Asking Price: $430,000 Designer: John Cherubini Hull Material: Fiberglass The Cherubini 48 Staysail Schooner is stunning. Long and low, with a clipper bow, bowsprit, and schooner rig, she integrates classic themes in American sailing, the clipper ships, the Grand Banks fishing schooners, and racing schooners of the 1930s. Below decks, she embodies the classic elegance of the finest yachts. While traditional in appearance, she is fast and fully contemporary in her construction and outfitting. She is a modern classic. The Cherubini 48 was designed by John Cherubini and is similar to her smaller sister, the Cherubini 44. She has a long waterline, narrow hull, large divided rig, and shallow Scheel keel which opens up vast areas of Chesapeake Bay and the Bahamas. She combines a Marconi-rigged main with fore and main staysails to establish a plan that can be easily handled by two people. The staysails are set up to be self-tending, and the large main is furled. The divided sail plan allows the ultimate in versatility from an enormous sail area in light wind to a very short rig when conditions demand. Offshore sailors will appreciate the Schooner’s ability to heave-to in comfort under a deep-reefed foresail. The Cherubini 48 is a “go anywhere” boat, designed and constructed for the rigors of the long passage, yet capable of exploring the hidden backwaters of the world with its Scheel Keel drawing only 5 feet, 10 inches. The Cherubini 48 preserves the classical appearance of yesteryear while offering the strength of fiberglass construction. Hand-finished teak, highlighted by custom stainless steel and bronze fittings and ports, incorporated with the latest construction methods and materials, will tell you that this is a yacht crafted with care and an understanding of the sea. Below deck, the same high standards of quality and traditional elegance have been carried throughout. The standard layout is designed to accommodate a cruising couple with occasional guests very comfortably.

Videographer tip: I recommend you use a tripod and do video stills (no movement) or even 4k photographs for areas with significant detail. Either use a sun shade on your lens, or a portable sun block with a suction cup to block direct sunlight on your lens. Break to slow pans, 2 to 10 degrees per second for sweeping views of areas not covered in single shots, and medium pans between 10 and 20 degrees per second as transitions between areas of significant detail. I liked your 360 at the foot of the entrance way, as it cemented in our minds the relative locations of each area. However, 360's in general aren't the best approach, particularly at that radial velocity! This is one of those areas where a steady hand-held going down the steps would be appropriate, followed by a medium pan conducted at the foot of the ladder down the companion way to the kitchen towards port and the aft port berth. Hold for three seconds. Reset location closer to the aft port berth. A good three seconds direct aft then begin a slow pan to port. Reset location to the foot of the entrance way. Pan right to the nav station, take some closeup stills of the various equipment and design niceties, followed by video of the two lockers to the right. I'm not going describe how best to shoot the entire boat, but the above approach is derived from the way things are done by professional mega-yacht videographers. Definitely take audio of your comments with the video, but unless you're taking video of yourself speaking, it's better use your comments to type up a detailed script for use in your home video studio. Nothing fancy there... I use an 8 yo laptop I picked up in Jan of 2013 for $400, a $50 used Meteor Mic, and some free video-editing software. My go-to camera for both video and stills is a 10 yo Nikon CoolPix AW100. FullHD (1080p/30) video and 16 MP (4608x3456) stills. The quality comes through with practice and skill, not the equipment. I've won photography awards with both my CooPix and Canon PowerShot pocket cameras, beating out others with multi-thousand dollar DSLRs. Whether you use Lightworks, Shotcut, DaVinci Resolve, or one of the others, they're all free and all have numerous online tutorials for doing precisely what I described above. For stills, I recommend Paint.net or XnView. En toto, the tips above will really put a professional polish on your videos! Don't worry about losing the personal touch, however, as that comes through in your voices and mannerisms when you're on camera. Don't be self-conscious -- just be yourselves! But do clean up your jumpy video wok. At the very least, use a two-axis mass-based stabilizer in conjunction with your camera's video stabilizer.

I thought your disclaimer at the start of the video's explained what you did but obviously some people cannot read and others just love to troll you. Don't worry about it too much. The fore main sail looks like it's a jib type sail with a hard boom , with the electric winches it would be easy to raise. The only thing I didn't like was the stove was near the center of the boat and not gimballed. Other than that , lovely yacht. Way out of my price range though. thanks for the video.
