It's criminal how underrated this game was/is. Had a total blast with it back in the day. Just a fantastic SNK fighter and a great "last hurrah" for Neo-era KOF style sprites before they moved on to KOF 12 and 13. Love seeing this! Thanks so much for sharing Justin!

Omg bro. I love that you gave this game some attention. Probably the most underrated SNK fighting game that's really good that nobody plays. It's literally the only SNK title aside from SVC Chaos that let's you play as Metal Slug characters. It's available on fightcade and you can also buy it on the Xbox One.

NeoGeo Battle Coliseum is an underrated gem and is basically SNK's answer to Capcom Fighting Jam, only done right. While it does feature it's fair share of recycled assets from KOF (and SVC Chaos) it also has a healthy amount of characters from more obscure series from SNK (and ADK) mixed in (Kisarah, Marco & Cyber-Woo to name a few), a couple of lesser known faces from Southtown (Lee, Tung & the Jin Brothers) revived in KOF style and last but not least, they even remade Robert from the ground up just to match an equally re-worked Ryo (himself based on his "Mr. Karate II" persona from Buriki One). The OCs, special agents Yuki & Ai, are also fairly well done and their movesets feature plenty of easter eggs to Neogeo's library of titles. The PS2 port of KOF XI would import NGBC iterations of Mai, Robert, Mr. Big, Geese as well as Hotaru & Tung (and it also gave us the most redundant iteration of EX Kyo, strangely enough) back into the game, with some QoL changes added in. (...though Geese is practically a different character altogether with the amount of work dedicated to him alone)

Can you tell me what is great about it? Or is your nostalgia playing with your feelings? No, evade, no short hop, and no run in a post-2005 game!!! The guard cancel came from being broken en SNK VS CP Chaos to being almost useless in this game. It was like going 10 years backward in terms of gameplay. By then we had nice games with really fast-paced action and good combo systems like Guilty Gear. But SNK just decided to use an old fashion slow gameplay. Quite sad since there are good characters, like Marco Rossi and Ashura trapped in this awful mess of a game.

Wow its awesome seeing high level Neo-Dio and King Lion as they used tô be My mains when i played The game. The thing about Neo - Dio Lightning is that it actually does more overall damage on Block than on hit weirdly enough. One thing you absolutely dont want tô happen is Neo Dio taking out a character while He hás 3 bars... As He gets a guaraanteed Ultimate Illusion ( Raging Demon with full body auto Block) getting 45% for free and the timing is Pathetically easy. King Lion is a very reaction based character with alot of tools tô deal with almost any situation. His counter is The Best in the game and it his main reversal tool even countering some supers.his sword sweep is really busted and abusable.

SNK has so many different franchises, and that were better managed than SF in terms of story and progression, that it's actually possible to make up a decent fg roster size with only SNK bosses. Like AOF alone made more bosses than SF over the same time in the 90s (only Bison and Gill); FF, also dead in the 90s, made more bosses than SF still today; Last Blade only lived for 2 years and made the same number of bosses that SF made during it's full run though the 90s. So SNK was really more creatively driven than Capcom at time. That was even one of its biggest features and main points of difference from Capcom.

Sadly Savage Reign is 100% dead with little chances of even cameos in KOF, like in stages or story, so some nice designs are practically lost forever. KOF doesn't normally get things from that game sadly. KOF 11 was just an extreme exception, part of SNK's idea of making surprise choices in their 2000s games. NGBC was a very special occasion to use him and I'm glad he was remembered and chosen for the game.

Like SVC Chaos, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum have an amazing roster. Not only KOF and Samurai Shodown characters but also from World Heroes, Last Blade, Aggressors of Dark Kombat (Kisarah Westfield for KOF XV and SNK Heroines), Kizuna Encounter and more! I would like a new SNK All Stars game that is not a mobile game.

I believe that wouldn't work well in the current fg market context, where even KoF is struggling. Also let's remember that the current SNK cannot resort to recycling just like it was "ok" to do in the 2d era. To me the ideal route today would be expanding the KOF roster range instead of remaking or rebooting NGBC, with the same name or not. That avoids having a second SNK crossover to clash with KOF, that won't be convenient for SNK. Better focus on KOF and evolve the roster.

The fact is: KOF 14's plot allowed a lot of strange things to happen. Even Nakoruru can be part of the main plot. So now nobody can really say character A or B makes no sense. If SNK wants, adding stuff like World Heroes and Savage Reign to KOF is totally possible and justified by the plot. It probably won't happen though because the current games have too "safe" rosters. The current staff isn't bold as the KOF 11 staff. But anyways I'm just saying what could be done.

I'm glad that I played this underrated gem instead of Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution (yeah, years later I played taht awful fighting game), I'm amazed how Justin reacted about King Lion's gamestyle (let's remember that he got murdered by King Leo in 2021 like 20+ times, getting perfected once, he should have expected some of that stuff he saw, obviously King Lion has different priorities but still a dangerous foe), also very glad that Justin got to narrate those matches and apreciate the game even more.

That early to mid 2000s period of SNK is very different than the later and current forms of the company. Or for the better or the worse, one could say too. They were experimental, not like in the 90s, but still infinitely more than today (2010s to now). To get back on topic... one example of that is redesigns, new moves, new ideas overall made in the early-mid 2000s that were abandoned in the change to KOF 12-13 in the late 2000s. The experimentalism was abandoned in favor of an extreme "classic style".

KOF 11 had Terry with Garou custome, Robert (console exclusive) with his NGBC form, surprising and welcome returns like Eiji, surprising debuts like Duck King and the Savage Reign and Buriki One chars. Then the developer mindset behind those creative ideas was totally abandoned after KOF 11. Now the series is being made with this safe design style.
