Aerosol hair spray onto a UV filter does the same thing. You’ll also have the ability to tune the strength of the effect depending on how much you spray

4 sprays for base +1 to increase strength
@robvision3888 Жыл бұрын
@@cyano3d good method 👍 Do not spray directly onto the UV filter. Here are my personal steps. Step One: Spray the hair spray up into the air. Do NOT spray directly onto UV filter. Step Two: Grab UV filter, now wave back and forth into the air that is saturated with hair spray. I usually do this twice to get a good diffusion level.
@cyano3d Жыл бұрын
@@robvision3888 oh i just redid my filter but with 2 feet distance from the filter but without waving it just a direct mist at it. I prefer this one compared to the result from waving in the spray. for me the dots on the filter are smaller and as a result effect is less overwhelming. I might try to mix both methods - do a base spray of 6 direct sprays and 2 wave ones in the air. I am guessing the wave method coats the back and front of the glass which makes it super pronounced?
@robvision3888 Жыл бұрын
@@cyano3d I usually try to get the spray on the inside part of the lens filter so that nothing can rub off the hair spray as long as it is screwed onto the lens but it’s up to you 👍 you got a good method, keep experimenting and fine tuning it to your needs!

I still don't quite understand buying $2000 glass and a $300 filter to make it look like a $20 kit lens.
@BenGleasonMedia Жыл бұрын
This comment comes up a lot, and ultimately, I have 2 reasons. 1 is because of the option to remove the filter if I don’t want that soft effect. When I’m going to a shoot I will typically have a look in mind, and for some shoots it may require the sharpness of a $2000 lens and for others I may want that same focal length but a softer look. 2, the filter is $125 USD, which is still a little pricey and I get that. But, after shooting video for 10 years, you start to experiment with your footage. Getting different effects to change things up or try something new keeps things fresh. While also shooting the sharp “boring” stuff to keep money in the bank. Ultimately you don’t have to use filters at all, and for photography it can be way easier to just do the effect in post. For video that may be a different story, which is what I mostly do, and why I tend to have a few of these filters in my bag to mix things up if I need to.

What people say film look is just basically improperly digitised films back in the day. If you bring your well exposed film into the dark room and use proper processing and printing then you’ll be able to achieve high performance digital camera look (maybe even better). What the camera brands nowadays doing is just exploiting the hyped market and you wouldn’t even imagine how it will look on the prints.
@BabyBenz962 ай бұрын
Yes but grain is still inherint with film- like pixels are to digital. There's nothing wrong with film that has some noticable grain, either. 35mm Portra 160 is a perfect example of that- it's sharp without being clinical and sterile feeling.
@JKinAus2 ай бұрын
@@BabyBenz96 it’s very interesting to see newer photo enthusiasts praising about film grain. It always has been photographers’ wishes to have no grain in the final product up until 10 years ago and still quite a lot of old photographers still do.. I still remember one of my sister’s professes at uni when she was doing her PhD in design about 20 years ago. He printed perfectly processed 30x60 photo from darkroom and we’ve talked about it for hours… when film’s printed, the way the grain looks is different from what you see on the screen, as well as how it is exhibited. It’s very important to try and see the difference before you are talking about film grain.
@BabyBenz96Ай бұрын
@@JKinAus I'm very aware- about a third of my photography is done on film. All film has grain, that's how the image is exposed, that's what I meant by "inherint". My point was that when grain is noticable, it is much more pleasant than when pixels are noticeable.
