I'm fly fishing a stream in Colorado near the end of my 2-month truck camping road trip thru Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. After a few hours fishing a pink worm with ok results, I switched to a different fly and the fish noticed big time....completely changed the day

Drew, your "slow" fishing days are way way better than my best days. 😁. Keep the vids coming for us winter time couch potatoes.

I was fishing the South Platte one day when every other river in Colorado was blown out, so every fisherman in the state was there. They were all using giant black stonefly nymphs with marginal results. I switched to a smaller golden stone and hooked the largest inland river trout I've ever caught, an absolute monster. I've caught coastal steelhead that weighed less.

Nice vid. I have the same experiences with that artificial worm in Austria and other European countries. This must be a busy but funny day. 😊

Yep, first fly I learned to tie back in '98 in Boulder...rust thread head unweighted and weighted beadhead...size 12's early then down to 18's. Staple.

Many years ago I was fishing a stream to the east of Idaho Falls. I had a fly box full of my hand tied flies and not one strike on anything. I stumbled and spilled all my flies. The stream exploded and the fish ate all my flies! I just went home🎣🥲

Excellent video. Thank you for sharing. Have you noticed that the pink worm works better than red? We were fishing a stream in wyoming and they would not hit the red worm, but really started hitting the pink worm. Have you seen a preference for the pink worm when you fish?

In the early 70's i started seeing the Catch&Release movement gain traction ( costly among the uppity fly fishermen ) with a holier than tho / upper crust / snobbery i'd never been exposed to among my worm fishing buddies. It just snowballed to the point where most fish i catch barely have any lips left after being caught multiple times. Talk about fly shy. I catch / eat most everything now. Streams are over run w/too many mouths and not enough food. I do my part to change the balance . . . ☆

Different drainages have different rules. Check the state fishing regs for certainty. In this case I’m pretty sure he’s talking about a San Juan Worm fly or a squirmy worm fly; not earthworms! 😎

Doubtful, except in either massive rivers or lakes. Fly fishing can often outfish other methods.

@@brian1204 Browns tend to reaction bite more so than others. Especially the big ones. So a spin rig with a lure can potentially be more productive. To catch big browns in CO you GENERALLY need to use streamers, I caught a 20-22''' brown the other day on a nymph. Which isn't rare, catch browns all the time on a nymph (in fact I rarely catch them off a rise) but that size on a nymph is rare.
@johnr153

@@DudeGuy82 Yes bigger Browns like bigger prey/lures but he is a fly fisherman so spin gear is not an option. He could have used Streamers which he does back where he lives but I believe he prefers dry fly fishing (or dry droppers) out west.
This is the ONE stream in WYOMING you have to fish!
