This Ford Ranger sat Abandoned for 19 Years - WILL IT RUN??

In this video I buy a Charity donation, clean title, one owner, 1993 Ford Ranger from Insurance Auto Auctions (IAA). Judging from the dates on the tires, it has been sitting abandoned since 2001. Let's see if I can get it running...

It’s factually more common for the fuel filter to go bad than the actual fuel pump, you don’t even need a fuel unp on those or stock gas tank. It would be more cost efficient on fumes.

Wow you got the bots too! Jeeze! That's a pretty decent little Ranger. Sounded good when she fired over. Yeah that's a bad fuel pump. One of the giveaways was the pegged fuel gauge. Probably a shorted fuel sender. You'll have to pull or tilt the box or drop the fuel tank. Fun fun! Take care Ben! Jason "Radio Rescue"

You know I didn't even notice the fuel gauge LOL. Just ordered a new fuel pump today for $36. I've replaced about 3 of these pumps before so it's nothing new to me :) Thanks Jason!

@@WrenchOnRebuilds with a older truck like this you don’t need a fuel pump. Hook up a gas fuel setup that makes the truck run on fumes. It lost less than 20$.

I am trying to get a ‘91 back up and running after a two year “coma”! 2.3 and it started and ran but pitiful power. Took it to a local garage and the head gasket was blown, so the head was reworked. It helped a little but still down on power. Checked back pressure on cat and it was fine. I guess I will keep throwing money at it!

The fuel pump doesn’t suddenly stop working after sitting for years, you didn’t prime the system by turning the key off and on to prime the pump, or at least add some fresh gas to filter any old gas.

As a matter of fact, fuel pumps do stop working after sitting for years, due to old varnish gas, corrosion, etc. Priming it won't work if the pump isn't running to start with, as this one was not. You can hear clearly if the pump is running or not when you turn the key.

@@WrenchOnRebuilds with all the dinging you wouldn’t hear it at all. Prime it at least a couple times (assuming a the new pump you got will work) then do it. Also we have additives to prevent fuel from varnishing. It’s called Lucas pour the whole bottle in in old gas and a little fresh gas. It’s more common to have bad gas ruin the fuel filter than the fuel pump.

About to get mine back running got a 93 2.3 been sitting 4 years , tried to crank it but wouldn't start , poured some B12 in her , fresh gas and now gonna try starting fluid maybe change on the ol fuel pressure regulator tom. We've had it since 93 , the damn thing ran perfect u til I parked it so I think things just need to get turning and lubricating
