This really reminds me of some of the Little Big Planet 2 games I played as a kid with 3 other people usually friends but sometimes randoms over voice chat. You had to do essentially all the same things, you could upgrade your apartment, work up to a super luxury house, work jobs, customize for hours, shower, eat, watch TV, and everything. This really brings back a ton of memories even if it's an entirely different game people were so creative in that game and we played single levels for 8 hours each sometimes easily
