This game is the literal definition of one step forward, three steps back. You go out to loot and find some decent things only to come back and find out you’ve been raided, all your food and medicines gone, and one of your survivors got badly injured and now everyone’s depressed.
@furiousapplesack Жыл бұрын
The raids can be a pain, especially in the scenario where the game starts during a crime wave. I think it's also dead of winter in that campaign, too IIRC, because I remember the one gave me the hardest time.

I was on a particularly good run, didn't need to rob anyone or scavenge dangerous places as I had plenty of resources, in fact I was actually helping out whoever I could. Then winter came, people got sick and supplies quickly ran out, I couldn't even scavenge anymore as it was all blocked off by the military. I thought the run was over, and then all the people that I helped actually came back and offered me food and meds, it was very moving.

In all my time playing this game I have NEVER had it go so horribly wrong. I can't tell if it's a result of Kevin's choices/really bad RNG or if he just decided to play some insane difficulty, because while I relate to the food struggles I've personally never experienced survivors getting lethally wounded/terminally ill, robbing me and then leaving, or constantly being stuck out at dawn. Then again, I also don't go on murder sprees and generally avoid the route of robbing people unless I'm desperate for supplies

This game is so much bigger than itself. I've beaten every scenerio in this game and have every achievement, including the ones with children and a pregnancy. It's brutal and unforgiving because you're playing as an untrained civilian in a war zone. Getting your hands on weapons or armor is insanely hard, and killing and stealing from people takes a toll on mental health just as it would irl. The smartest playstyle is for you to walk that line, skip meals and fortify, which is damn near impossible in some scenerios where you have characters that can carry next to nothing and cannot fight back. They're using it as a supplementary education tool in some places to talk about what refugees and civilians go through in war scenerios. The developer also donated a lot of the proceeds to Ukraine Red Cross. The mobile version is pretty solid too. Go check it out if you haven't already- it's worth every penny.

@francescofinucci Жыл бұрын
it really is a hard game, emotionally speaking, and not too easy as a gameplay, too. One thing struck me, when playing it: having one character perfectly able to survive, given the resurces s/he had and its physical health. Yet s/he was depressed, so it ended with his/her death. It was such a shocking realization on how much our mental health contributes to our survival, as much as our physical one. Such a powerful game.
@furiousapplesack Жыл бұрын
@@francescofinucci The fact that different characters have different tolerances for stress is super realistic, too. Like, it takes a lot for Roman to be emotionally affected because he's a veteran who has already seen so much and he's somewhat numb. I've had runs where I had Roman doing so much dirty work that it depressed the housemates to the point where one "opted out" overnight, which affected the third housemate enough to make the same choice the next night. Many stories like that, honestly. After so many years of playing, I can minmax now but I'll never forget the struggle to reach this point. Just a shame I can't unlearn those skills if I wanted to. Having enough food cooked and sitting on the stove to get 4 people by for another 100 days is a bit nuts.

Protip: When you go out to scavenge, you can gather all the resources in that place and drop them together in a pile near the entrance. That way you have everything together and can decide better what you should bring back home. And personally I like to upgrade everything first as much as possible. So get as much wood and materials and parts as possible, then fix up the holes in your house, and get beds for everyone, and upgrade your workshops.
