twice the first time was because the combat was too hard for me the second time was because I lost to 5 peasants since the targeting was trash

Lots, I'll admit. The main reason being that the combat system was hyped by many people as being ultra realistic, yet I was getting killed by guys with swords after I'd shot them in the head with arrows... So, not very realistic at all. So I mostly just tried to avoid combat wherever possible after that.

I've played through the game (with DLCs) probably a dozen times now, around 2600 hours. This isn't like Witcher or God of War or Skyrim or any of those other "fantasy" games. You start off as a peasant with zero skills and have to learn how not to die. And the "clunky" save system reinforces the gravity of your decisions, since you could be hours since your last save if you're not careful. One of the more enjoyable parts of the game is the multitude of ways you can complete quests. There are very few places in the game where you are scripted to follow a certain path. You can take the straightforward approach and fight your enemy. Or you can try being stealthy, perhaps sneak them some poison when they're not looking or ambush them. Attack at range with arrows. Get drunk and try to bluff your way through, or level your charisma and wear the right armor and go for intimidation. Or try a bribe! You can be a murderous highwayman or a complete pacifist, it's up to you. I play on a PC; I've only once found a bug that was "game breaking", but an adjustment to my settings took care of that. I've taken lessons in both fencing and stage combat, and they both use a "five point" system, so the combat in this game immediately made sense. But if all you know about sword fighting is spamming a "slash" button and having a dozen NPCs fall down, this is definitely going to be a new experience.

My new favorite game of ALL TIME. Such a fresh experience (Still playing). I didn't quit because of the combat because there was a roblox game with a similar combat mechanics and I played it a lot before playing this game so I was familiar with it:) The only thing that I hate is fighting multiple enemies, like, I want it to be difficult but I want it to be unfair in a way that it makes sense. Enemies with polearms will just rotate around you and your camera will automatically follow them, when you turn your back for a seconds your camera will teleport to whoever is currently attacking you, I just wish it worked well when fighting multiple enemies, I want to fail because of my skill, not because the game dictates me.

yeah, dealing with multiple enemies is a nightmare, what I do is try to get ready for the fight, I approach a camp with some stealth, I kill one or two with stealth, then another before they get to react and then it's only a couple to deal with, I make sure to switch my camera to whoever is starting to swing a weapon so I can parry the strike, or if you really want the easiest way to kill them, you could just wait until nightfall, sneak up on the camp and kill each of them with one strike, if you're really good at it, you only have to actually fight one.

​@@Rrash_VA Not yet, but it is on my bucket list! I live on the opposite end of the country and the journey takes 6 hours by train, so it's not feasible to visit for only one day. I am considering camping somewhere in the woods near Rattay, to get an even more immersive experience :)

Skyrim was my favorite game of all time until I played this game roughly a few weeks ago. I beat the game fully thanks to the help of some people in their discord community because I was stuck. There's so many ways to do EVERY QUEST and that's what I really loved about the game. I found myself backing up A LOT in this game because of the aggressive nature of the AI.

I've been playing for two months and have not fought Runt yet but my Henry is mostly 20's . I still can't seem to get combos but I can walk into a Cuman camp juiced on Aqua Vitalis and Bucks Blood.

If you're playing in Normal Mode, the game tells you when you're timing your hits correctly to perform a combo, by the reticle turning white on your next move. Tip: Begin the second strike right after the first one lands, don't spam. Tip 2: If your opponent "Perfect Blocks you" stop attacking and wait for him to attack you, because he's about to master strike you

What always kinda annoyed me about this game were all the enemy npcs seem to be hell bent on killing you and you alone. You will be crouched down watchimg a group of cumans figting a gang of bandits and they will all just stop mid combat and sprint at you and start attacking. It happens so often sometimes the a.i will get confused and will just be getting dostroyed from behind by another enemy npc and will still only want to target you.

yeah, the combat in the game is very promising and unique, but could definitely use some.. or a lot of improvements, here is hoping it'll be fleshed out in the next game if that's even a thing

haha, yeah i heard the combat is tougher with a controller, I completely mastered it on PC, i guess because somehow you have more control on PC, not enough control with a controller haha

It wasn't the combat difficulty for me, it was its sound design, in 22 years of gaming I've never experienced such a boring audio in a medieval themed combat

It does get easier when your combat skills are at later levels ,and you have good gear ,you’ll eventually feel like a badass taking on a bunch of enemies head on instead of using a bow or your horse to pick them off one by one
