Hehehe, I love all these discussions! I was interested because I’m from Jordan, specifically near the place where all the Dune locations were filmed

To be honest the design of the fremen language is excessively too conservative given the excessively huge time span of Dune. That amount of time would make a language unrecognizable to bare eyes

they prefer a realistic approach for Targaryen Castle but at least put some gorgoles and dragons in. But they were wrong like you show us, about Stark's castle can be realistic and faithful as the 3D model in the video, pretty and realistic.

Awesome video, I have one suggestion for the idea of letters evolving or regressing, which is the fact that as time goes on, we probably will use computers and phones a lot more than handwriting, what is likely to happen, I think, isn't dots turning into dashes, but more so the letters being replaced by an easier pronounciation, we already do that in arab speaking nations, lots of people skip the ث and ذ in favour of ت and د , I myself confused ظ and ض for a long time, I feel the most likely evolution will be due to pronounciation. Another point that is unique to arabic which is the fact that it is the language of the qur'an and so it would most likely maintain its alphabet to preserve the meanings of the verses. Cheers from an algerian brother !

“Regression” and “devolution” are still evolution. In biology, creatures regress all the time, losing functionality and dropping things, when is the cost of keeping it is less than its helpfulness

Great Video i really enjoyed it! but you sure did butcher both Daniel Vávra's name and Troskovice, that's normal for foreigners pronouncing czech words (what i recommend is putting the word into google translate in the original language and pressing the play sound button.) As i Live in the Mladá Boleslav District (so the second game will be much more closer to my heart than the first game) i can confidentely say that the castle feels much more vertical in real life. and please, i'm interested in heraldry and it hurts when people say it so don't call it an emblem and definetely don't call it a crest(that is the thing above the helmet) call it a Coat of arms

I think atm my fav show version og cities/castles are in no particular order: Mereen King’s Landing Storm’s End The wall/Castle Black Harrenhal (especially in HotD) Horn hill Braavos Old town Besides Highgarden another castle I was quite disappointed with was actually The Eyrie. While It does have a much cooler idea for a moon door, The actual castle itself looks way too bulky and messy, it’s also situated on a VERY weird stone formation that just defies all laws of physiqs. The show really fails in capturing what I believe are its essential qualities in the books: White Marble walls, Blue roof tiles and it being slender and beautiful beyond compare. Only rivaled by Highgarden. It should have been positioned alongside a normal looking mountainside with a small portion juting out in order to have the floor moondoor, then with tall shiny towers and not a huge dome taking up all the space

The show surely didn't get most of these right, but the castles in the books are totally incoherent with the present level of technology in these books and thus are not also good enough to preserve them literally. Be it technological challenge of carving a Burj Khalifa inside a freaking Gibraltar rock, energy consumption of enormous Winterfell in order just to keep it habitably warm during some years long winters or logistical burden of supplying the Eyrie via the single narrow mountain pass, these are all hardly bearable even with the modern technologies. And the Song of Ice and fire is not the world of strong enough magic, at least during the first books, to explain all these. Also all the critique from the "I didn't even read the books I am talking about" seems a little bit absurd.

Great video but as you rank trosky I dont think its accurate because of the model you saw is not perfect. I was there 2 day ago and I can crearly say it will be much harder for army to get there and their defenses was much higher.

I see, where were you when I was researching this video haha! now that i think about it more, maybe the scene where they shot the guard that opened the gate was at Trosky castle. if that's the case then I'll have to revaluate the score. at least an 8.5/10

Honestly, you shouldn't even be talking about the books if you haven't read them. Put in the work and read them if you want to cash in on them.

Pyke seems to be relatively close to what we have in the books. I actually like the idea of the castle being streight into the sea, book concept arts show the towers on rocks all over the place which seems quite exaggerated and not even the Ironborn have a death wish that bad when it comes to crossing a rope bridge to get to bed

Im from Algeria and i personally write the dots exactly the way that you write them. I guess having taken extensive exams with such short timings just conditioned us to write fast af. I cannot write the dots even if i wanted to on ت ق, it looks childish to me. Meanwhile the little cap that i add to ش ث instead of three dots is my favorite thing

You have a point for sure, but the fact that he made the writing more simplistic is probably allegorical for what happened to humanity in the Dune universe. I mean, they abandonded computers, use swords in fighting etc, for me it feels like a blend of a super advanced future with a super "devolved" (to use your term) almost medieval society; and the language is meant to represent that. But I am just guessing...

This is another writing way, there are three ways if writing and the one we study is naskh(نسخ), which is the normal way that we study in school, and it is the slower way, when people started writing a bit fast, they start to make these lines instead of dots because they didn’t give the pen time to get out of the paper, so it makes a line, this way of writing is called riqie, it is a faster way of writing, there’s another faster way but it takes alot of practice and it’s much harder to read than others, it is writing everything in a a very small place and each word is inside the other, it is used normally infront of mosques to say bismillah, and in other places but it is very rare to find because it’s hard to be writin or even understood

I like your idea of the dashes having come from dots eventually fusing into the base letter. I think that would actually distinguish the letters even better than they are already distinguished.
