I gotta be honest about Sonic Origins: it's a downgrade to the 2013 rereleases, but it plays actually good!, my opinion why most players hate on this game is only because of the Sonic 3 prototype music being used on that port, i see Sonic Origins as a decent remake. Additional Note: just a slight nitpick but it's also a missed opportunity opportunity to give Sonic CD a drowning music, which i would personally think that Sonic Robo Blast 2's drowning theme (the one on V2.1 and/or older) would be fittung if it were to be Sonic CD's drowning theme

I'll never forget how hype I was when I saw this at Walmart in 2006. I dreamed of playing the Genesis games, literally, I still remember playing Sonic 3 on a Gameboy in like 1999 lol. So as a result I tried to like this game, maybe I hate it less than most people do but if they could port SNES games this should've been easy. The GBA is a 32-bit handheld.

My favorite part about the GBA port of Sonic 1 is that most of its problems stem from trying to play music and run the game at the same time. I'm being serious by the way - go into the options and turn off the music and sound effects, and you'll notice that it runs dramatically better. Now, that said, it's still very bad and I'll gladly take literally any other port of Sonic 1, but nonetheless I find it fascinating that doing this helps its performance.

@@midi_feline No, actually. The GBA doesn't have a dedicated sound chip so any audio processing is done by the CPU. I think the problem is that the songs and sound effects were ported in a fairly faithful manner, despite the GBA's hardware not being up to the task. The GBA only had two PCM channels (compared to the six FM-synthesizer channels on the Genesis) as well as the old PSG sound system from the original GameBoy (which has four channels - pulse A & B, Wave, and Noise). I'm by no means an expert on video game audio but I strongly suspect this explains the noticeable pause when switching from one music track to another. Interestingly enough, there was an unofficial proof-of-concept made to show that Sonic 1 can run on the GBA without being a total shit show. It was designed by "Stealth," who would later be part of the development team for the iOS/Android version. Obviously the end result sounds terrible and in no way resembles the quality tunes we love. My intention was to convey that I think Sonic Team used the original set of instructions used in the Genesis version with only minor modifications, never stopping to consider that the GBA's sound hardware was different. This feels even more evident when I compare it to Stealth's version, where he recreated the background music and sound effects from the ground up with the intention of being used on the GBA.
