i think the problem with the horror genre being called, well, horror is that people expect it to horrify you every time when that isn't the case, necessarily. the horror genre is more than just scares. it doesn't need to scare you, it can unsettle you, disgust you, etc. and i think layers of fear proves that pretty well.

Dear Insym, This is a bit of a love letter to Layers of Fear, but also a declaration of respect for your gameplay. I feel like what gets lost in many playthroughs of the Layers of Fear games is the throughline that this new remaster brought to the forefront, which directly calls out the eternal struggle of art versus artist. Regardless of the medium (painting, music, acting, writing), the artist inevitably gives up a bit of themselves to create what they do. The trouble seems to come when the artist lets the art take too much of themselves, or perhaps another interpretation, the art overtakes or becomes the artist. This felt driven home in the enemies in the painter's (his neglected wife as a living terror composed of art) and the actor's (the formless one which could be the person acting in between roles if they don't have their own identity) stories. But that's all just my interpretation. I also believe video games are an art form, too. What an interesting (and probably too meta) Layers of Fear 3 that could make. Video game creators create entire histories and worlds for their characters, and there's bound to be a little piece of them in there. But they never get to actually be a part of what they create. Also, what does that mean for streamers? They step into these roles, and the best streamers I've seen get lost in the stories. And what about the streamers' audiences? They lose themselves in the story told by the streamer telling the story of someone else. Copy of a copy of a copy? Anywho, you did a bang-up job with this playthrough. You found a lot of the secrets that make the stories make sense in the end and let the audience interpret the game how they want to. Thank you for playing completionist when you need to. Thank you, too, for not interrupting key dialogue and reading pieces that weren't voice-acted. You fill in major gaps for those that need it. And finally, thank you for letting the game be scary or suspenseful for the most part (although the convo about fruit seemed to last a little too long; I understand that you gotta stay interactive :)). You're a stellar streamer. Please keep helping all of us who can't afford platforms, who are too scared to play these games, and who value the gaming community to enjoy the sometimes awe-inspiring, sometimes heart-stopping art of video games with you at the helm. Ok so, basically LOF2 is the tale of a brother and his older sister. Lily was born while their father had been away at war but came back as basically a shell of who he was and he was injured, PTSD, etc. and James was born after he returned from war but it's implied that their mom died during childbirth. This set off their father's alcoholism even further (as I understood it) and he had begun working at a theatre as a projectionist so the siblings grew up watching movies and use it as an escapism as their father had been abusive (it's implied that he mainly abused Lily and not James). I'm not totally sure about what happened or what triggered them to run away other than the abuse but it seems like either their father unalived himself or they killed him (accidentally or not, I'm unsure), it's never specifically stated which one is truly what happened. While running away, they become stow aways on a cruise ship going to America where they were hiding in empty rooms with no guests and would leave to get supplies while everyone slept. The higher ups seem to catch on to food going missing and starts to ration the crews food and locks away the rest which pisses the crew off as they're being punished for what the stow aways are doing. Due to the lack of food now, the siblings start to starve. Lily disappears one night and James starts to go a bit nutso while the cruise becomes the Titanic (basically). Lily either comes back and dies trying to help James escape or James is still seeing things and thinks his sister came back. James becomes a famous actor but he seems to suffer from a bit of multiple personality as he occasionally becomes his sister (it's his way of bringing her back? it's mostly suggested that he would crossdress in roles to play a female character). He also starts to be come a lil bit not all there again as The Director enters the scene as (as I understood it) a servant to The Muse and is trying to set up the perfect film as she wants it. In the Flame ending, James returns to himself and everything we've played through is literally him filming the movie. In the Formless ending, the character we play as is literally formless as they aren't sure who they are and replays the events over and over until they figure out who they are. In the Forever ending, the character we play is revealed to be Lily who lives her life as James but eventually she comes back to herself as Lily and not James as it's implied she murdered her brother at some point, both literally and metaphorically. That or it's revealed that James became Lily completely as a coping mechanism but eventually kills off the 'James' part of himself. Hopefully that helps or allows you to craft your own understanding of it!

I wonder if, at the very end choice, instead of choosing the man, you choose the woman like you did in the beginning if it would unlock the formless ending for you? Since you're technically James by this time, it's like you're unaliving yourself so it's fading to black.

I believe at least in America if you go to a bank and demand all your money, they have to give you the amount that they guarantee they have on hand which is generally around 10%, because the rest they either loan out or invest to make their own money.

I don’t think you would like sea of thieves because it multiple player and most other player aren’t nice. I used to like the game but than I didn’t log on for a few months and than other player who were way higher levels started kill my team who were way low of a level for no reason. I stopped playing ever sense than. I hope they change some day because it’s a great game. I just don’t like toxic players.

It probably comes clear later, but I'm at 58 minutes and going to give my guess: The actor is remembering stowing away on a ship with his brother... probably his brother died (there's a thing from the Agent earlier where the director mentions a mystery brother), and that ties into why he's afraid of the ocean. I suspect the Writer in the lighthouse had her son taken away similarly. And the writer is trying to get her son back by writing the death of the demon... and the actor is trying to get his brother back by doing what the director wants. I think the "Muse" demon isn't specifically for writing, I think the muse attacks creatives of all types. And I'm guessing the Muse is at the heart of the tragedies for The Painter, The Actor, The Musician, and The Writer. The Demon gives them a dark but amazing early burst of fame and recognition but at a horrible price. My thoughts at 1:10 The Musician and The Painter had their love twisted and corrupted against each other. The Actor lost his brother and was afflicted by guilt. The Writer, I think, lost her son. So, all of them got a short cut to early success at the cost to having most of their life ruined and their fame fading quickly after they get used up by the demon. at 1:39... I think the manikin following you is the younger brother stowaway following you. And I think the dogs being kept on low food is to make them vicious. at 1:49 I suspect the Director is part of the Muse-cult, like the Writer's agent. 3:44 (mostly marking time to mark where I make edits on ongoing thoughts) Noticed that all the movie posters so far have both a male and female voice... so you could read it as either Lily survived and did all the female roles or James survived and did all the male roles. So The Actor could be either sibling. And I think the bit with Lily yelling was her yelling at her father... also the titles she gives her "Captain" character "slayer of the cyclops" maybe assigning herself defeating their "one-eyed freak" of a father" and "Seeker of the flame" - not sure on this one, but I think there was mention of fire hazards earlier and that may be related. Or she's yelling at herself. well, the King Lear bit at around 3:49 killed that theory. And the box REALLY killed that theory... but I think the "She lied to me." is about the demon lying to James. Ahhh.... I was right... so I think the bit with the dog with take the food or give up was a Lily point... taking the food would let her live.

Separate comment, I've found that fantasizing about monsters or being a monster comes in two varieties: giving your personal trauma a shape... or thumbing the nose at people who treat you as an "other" or outsider. The second is where I lean with my non-human characters and tends to be characters that aren't human physically, but tend to be nicer than the first option. The first option tends to create rather flawed sorts.

Seven Seas. Seven Deadly sins. Only really saw 5, though - Gluttony (spaghetti, teeth/mouth), Greed (scales, head...arms?), Pride(?) (teddy bear...?), Lust (legs spread), Sloth (air fresheners, hands). So I'm thinking Lily was Wrath, with how angry she was towards the end. And James... James is Envy. He might have been too young to know it, but he was likely at least a little envious of his sister. His sister, who their father was at least nice to, when the man absolutely despised and abused him. His sister, who was so strong and courageous, able to protect and make decisions and lead, the Captain of the crew. Well... James was the Captain now.
