I remember when I watched your playthrough of the original and I had to find the source of the "Baby face" painting. It's a portrait of Antonietta Gonsalvus by Lavinia Fontana (1583). Antonietta Gonsalvus and her family all had hypertrichosis, abnormal hair growth, and were kept by the French royals as oddities...

I go to sleep with fireplace noises too! May I recommend trying a library ambiance with rain sounds outside? I’m a big fan of those too. It was very entertaining to watch you talk about board games and chat had to scramble to figure out what board game you were talking about. From the amazing story telling of the game, how beautiful the art direction went, the way you interpret and understand the story, and occasional funny moments here and there. Always fun and enjoyable to watch your gameplay. Also, do not take this in a bad way, your videos are entertaining from start to finish. I relate to some people in chat using your videos to sleep to. It’s something about your voice perhaps? Or maybe you’re just genuinely a very good guy and it’s nice to hear you talk. Just positive energy and vibes all around. I find it funny that you need fireplace noises to sleep with and I would rather hear you play a game, be entertained and take a nap here and there. It’s very comforting. You’re the best around and I don’t think that there will never ever be a streamer like you. You’re the best around Insym!

Imagine a psychological horror co-op game though... you go different routes, causing changes to what the other is going through. but your characters grow increasingly more instable, repeatedly finding proof that someone is there with them - without ever being able to find them. bonus points if both players technically play as the same character!

I'm only 20 minutes into the video so far and I'm already enthralled... I know this is nostalgic video games month but as soon as you do get the chance to do so, I for one would very much appreciate seeing you play the rest of the instalments of the series! You sir are hands down one of my favorite content creators on KZbin just all around because you put out content faster than I can even watch it sometimes, you pick some of the most interesting games to cover, you don't shy away from really long uploads and playing games from beginning to end in one sitting without any smash cuts to edit out the "slow" parts that others might normally not want to see but I surely do, and besides all of that you're just plain and simple and entertaining guy to watch doing a "let's play". Thank for your continued deduction to your work bro!

I love how understated the scares are in this game. The atmospheric build up is crazy and makes the game so much more suspenseful so that when the scares do hit, they really pack a wallop 😀 Edit: it becomes harder to watch bad things happen to kids in games/movies after having them. It feels more real somehow when you have kids.

This game is really beautiful and full of well thought out details to contribute to the (quite depressive, more so than scary) story. Watching it was a really memorable experience. Insym's commentary (with the occassional comedic relief) was perfect as always, too. I only wish it was a little shorter, maybe 2/3 of its current length, because in the last third I was already starting to be a bit impatient and losing focus. The plot itself is fairly simple and so are the mechanics - it's mostly just walking forward and picking up notes with the occassional extremely simple puzzle - so I felt like it was dragged out a little longer than would be perfect. I wonder if anyone else felt the same?

I really don't like how they use real paintings in this game without any background information. "Babyface" is not showing a monster. The girl on the painting is Tognina Gonsalvus. She lived in the 16th century in France. She and her family had a condition called hypertrichosis. They were held as "ape men" attractions for the french court. They were real people.

I haven't watched the second part yet, but I think an interesting twist would have been that the Writer doesn't actually have a son at all, and when the "kidnapper/agent" gets called, he's like "ma'am, I'm confused... what son?" and you realize that the Muse has been masquerading in her head as a "son" the entire time. She seems inspired by him, so it makes sense. Then we end up seeing that the portrait of him by her typewriter has always been the Muse and that it's all over the place.

I wonder why they not only introduced the demon, but also... almost feel like they want to redeem him somewhat? as you said near the end In the original, though it felt haunted and demonic, it was made very clear that it was, his mental illness causing him to hallucinate. They even directly named it in the notes, I believe. Schizophrenia. But I don't recall ANY mention of that in this new version? The only thing remaining that really makes us think he might be hallucinating is the rat issue. I have a hunch that people (maybe even the devs themselves) weren't very happy with this portayal of mental illness, questioning if the game wasn't just using it as a crutch and adding to the bad image the general public has of especially schizophenia. Yes, the painter definitely still is ill. But with his wife saying she is struggling with the same mental illness, AND the demon directly confirming that it helped the painter AND the musician (as well as the writer, obviously)? Now everything he did, or most of it, can be blamed on said demon. And instead of breaking under him, the wife almost feels like some kind of martyr that sacrificed herself so her child wouldn't have to suffer under her? It's not bad per se, but very very different in terms of tone and general vibes. I liked not knowing if the painter was going insane until later in the first game and wish they hadn't brought up the demon so quickly.

It's probably already been answered but the grading in American education is as follows: A - 90% to 100% proper completion of presented tasks (ie - you answered 90% to 100% of the questions properly) B - 80% to 89% proper completion C - 70% to 79% proper completion D - 60% to 69% proper completion F - Below 60% proper completion There's also + and -. I'm a bit more fuzzy on the thresholds here, because it's been awhile since I did stuff in the US education system, but I think an A- would be 90% to about 93%, A would be 94% to 97% and A+ would be 98% to 100%. Typically, a passing grade is C- or higher. So anything from 70% on up.
@tomasrolter6729 Жыл бұрын

I think this video was a good example of Insym not really understanding or connecting with art and the value of said art, despite ones career being based off of endless art and design projects (the games)
@Insym3 ай бұрын
Can you explain why you think that?
@ashryver36053 ай бұрын
@@Insym In the first quarter of the game when the narrative is kind of unfolding - it's not like I'm keeping a notepad here, but one stand-out example that made me turn my head was a part where referring to critics discussing an old master's art and dismissing it by people reading too deep and that nobody would ever make something with that kind of mindset. Echoed by chat, before devolving into the same (and understandable, mind you) misguided discourse about modern art stereotypes, since it's all that the normal populace seem to focus on when it comes to art and its integration in culture/cultural history. I've been a long term fan of your content but it was just disappointing, if not something I expected when seeing the subject matter of the game. Do note I'm not being aggressive or demeaning to you in the following, but trying to expand on the offhand comment from a non-artist who doesn't realise that everyone, not just artists, do instill meaning to objects and actions, the meaning of which can have much more depth or intent than surface level conscious act/description. Continuing on - In your specific example, you categorise that critics formulizing a narrative about a specific masters work is irrelevant because it was named something not poignant enough for you. But that is not relevant as a requirement to derive objective meaning and reference as the viewer. To take one prolific artist from Australia, a long deceased indigenous artist Albert Namatjira. His works on the Australian landscape are cultural history and have the same kind of critique discourse surrounding it. But they're not named in a poignant way nor are many other older masters work. But all of the work speak from a very per level of his opinion, his experience, and his relationship with the land. He doesn't need to consciously state this via description or title, it's communicated by design and intent. Art is a deep reflection of the artists mind, conscious or unconscious act. Everything a person has experienced and seen influences the visual library, and you don't need to consciously define an essay of meaning accompanying the work. The old masters across the centuries have endless works with throwaway titles, but it doesn't mean their work wasn't created with intent and an observation, an internalisation and expression, of an aspect of their life or someone else's life they're capturing. It's very easy to (as mentioned before), because it definitely is so in most situations, jump on the haha artist useless bandwagon because of the stereotypical moments in "modern art' ie. Banana taped to wall that we all have seen. Because that's easy. It's a surface level lens of something pretty meaningless. While modern art does have many culturally impactful pieces that critique things, the art of old masters is a lot more relevant and easier to grapple with the idea of taking more seriously I think. In a broader topic; when a non-artist is faced with discourse about intent, meaning, influence, direction, and the design behind an art piece or the creation of art, it is almost always dismissed by the notion that "nobody thinks that deep" or similar lines of thought. But humans are very simple creatures and everything is a product of *design*. It is something I experience my whole life when you talk with people about the why and how they like something (art content related). They cannot put to words why and how it affects their like of such thing, but when I or another explain or point out those parts, they have eureka moments and understand why it appeals to them. The shape and contrast of a series of strokes, the relationship between forms, or the implication of something by gesture and what isn't said (drawn). All of these are quantifiable design choices a critic pulls from, but it's not anything any non artist even considers or realised. If you've given the time to read this far down, I appreciate it and I hope it's been interesting.
@Insym3 ай бұрын
Honestly I have no idea what statement you refer to here since this video is mega old and you didn't put a timestamp. But obviously a lot of art has deep meaning. But some art is just painted because painting is also a job and sometimes an artist needs to paint something to make a living. Not all art is an extension of the soul. Also I'm very confused as to why you expect art school levels of analysis out of someone who goes to a museum like twice a year max. That's just totally unreasonable. You seem to be upset about a generalizing statement I made about art but similarly you made a generalizing statement about me saying that I don't understand or connect with art (including video games) because of a single statement I made during a Livestream many months ago. You could have just focused on the single point and how you disagreed with what I said. Similarly I could have stated that some art is not deep at all but some art is very meaningful (that's definitely my opinion at least but I might have said it differently in the video but I can't check since I don't have a timestamp)

So I'm really confused. I bought the whole bundle, I only owned the original layers of fear 1 plus the daughter DLC, and I started a new story. But I did not get any of that lighthouse intro stuff that Insym got. It just started me off at the beginning of the remastered layers of Fear 1 and I've since finished that. When I saw Insym start this on stream a few days ago I stopped watching because I thought he was only playing the newest story and I wanted to play it first before I watched anybody else play it. Then the next day I saw that he was starting layers of fear 2 so I didn't understand why he was playing all out of order like that. But it turns out he was playing from the beginning?!

i think that the whole point of the artist, is that he wasn't insane before the incident, he just progressively went insane because they are expecting a baby and given the illness of the wife, he had to paint and be better to earn money. to pay for the bills and for her treatment. and he lost himself in the process of trying to make the new best thing and completely forgot about the reason. thats why at the end, he ended up obsessing over his wife, he cant capture the part on what she truly was or is. like the "art" she was in his mind.

I think things started to go downhill for the couple when they had that collaboration. It looks like the husband was upset over people appreciating his wife's music more than his paintings. So he started demanding his wife to turn down her art and also became more obsessive in his own. Yeah, it sounds like he was frustrated both by his wife's greater success as an artist and her phobia related to fire. And I think the comment about "a family doesn't start with marriage" / "art doesn't start with a brush" - is him talking about how you need a good medium to build on... canvas in the terms of art... and .... disturbingly enough ... probably a good woman for a family... so he was looking at his potential wife as material to use as the foundation for his family rather than as a person....
