"Always" is a bit strong. FFXIV was a WoW killer and while it didn't _kill_ World of Warcraft it has certainly done quite well for itself. Multiple Battlefield games have been called that and, bugs aside, most have been really good games. Besides, that term usually comes from folks in the media or KZbinrs looking for clicks or gamers who are just biased. It's a competitor to the actual developers and competition is a good thing.

Luckily it's not Sony or cod would be 160$ filled with more micro transactions it could possibly have(far more than now) ..I couldn't even imagine what Sony would do to cod if they owned it. It would be all about PlayStation. Cod would be exclusive to PlayStation and would die out in a quick minute.

Sony have been working behind the scenes on some big FPS title for the past few years as was briefly mentioned in the video. It's an as yet unannounced title but is the culmination of their recent-ish studio acquisitions. Their acquisitions have been targeted, they've been acquiring talent in the related fields. As for a timeline to see something of this, is anyone's guess.

The only thing that will end COD is COD itself. They’ll have to ruin the relationship with consumers to fail, but it won’t be because another IP kills it. And that’s in part because they are focused on “being the next COD” rather than being a great game by itself.

Oh it's getting worse and worse. I'm from Canada and our leading video game retailer Game Stop is starting to be more selective about which games it's even willing to carry because so many of them aren't selling and are just sitting on the shelves. I was in there yesterday and saw a guy trying to trade in games and I overheard them telling him they couldn't take most of them because they won't sell. People have no money so they are being extremely selective now about what they are and are not willing to buy.

Our equivalent to GameStop in the UK (GAME) just outright no longer accepts trade ins as of February, because they had so much pre-owned stock they couldn't shift from shelves and were losing money to store credit that they just decided to no longer operate it, and hope they can eventually sell all the remaining preowned stock. Only place you can do it now (other than a handful of independent places) is CEX, which ONLY buys and sells pre-owned, so you can't build up store credit towards a new/sealed game.

Even outside of gaming a lot of hobby shops now limit what you can even spend store credit on because their top items need to be sold rather then traded for. It amazes me that the rich and corporations have drained all the money for themselves while increasing prices constantly and now they act shocked that people aren't buying their products. In this case 1+1 = Collapsed Economy

​@@rhonab6698Man, that would be a huge hit to the GameStop sales here in the US if they did that. At least in my area. They have a large used games section that is always moving product. I go every couple months just to look around, and they're usually about 80% games that weren't there before.

Like Scott said, a competitor has to get so many things perfectly in order to even have a chance against CoD. CoD can and does actively shoot itself in the foot and ruin its reputation phenomenally, and STILL nothing can come close. Similarly, as Josh said regarding Manchester City, any other team has to be so insanely good to even stand a chance. Sure, there are underdogs stories here and there, but only the titans of the Premier League can consistently compete. Most others do not stand a chance Every game that has tried has managed to maintain a foothold or some kind of relevance and fanfare in their own right, but nothing can dethrone Call of Duty It is better to make a game that does its own thing and does it really well than to intentionally try to "kill" Call of Duty and fail miserably. That is all that most games people think of have been able to do

Call of Duty didn't become the bulldozer that it is overnight. 1, 2, and 3 made it a household name, 4 elevated it to the next level, and a constant stream of yearly releases (of mostly consistent quality) turned it into an industry juggernaught. It can absolutely be overtaken, but it's not going to happen with one or two releases.

If you cut the condescending tone kiddo, I'll explain it to you. A big reason CoD continues to sell well is because it's the most accessible semi-realistic shooter on the market. It's not completely sci-fi like Overwatch, but it's not as realistic as mil-sims like Escape from Tarkov. It hits that sweet spot where people can live out their power fantasy of being a Special Forces operative even in the worst games of the series. It has mass appeal for both old and young alike. For every older gamer who ages out of CoD, there are plenty to take their spot. Now, you knew all of that, but if not, read what I wrote. Read it nice and slow until you understand it.

I'm so burne3d out on Call of duty. I have bought them almost yearly for the past few years and I have had to get 2 copies due to my son and I bough playing it. And while it can be fun the fact is that they have massive connection and server issues that hamper the experience if you are both playing off the same router. Helldivers 2, hell let loose, battlefield 2042 and now Xdefiant all work with no stuttering or lag, But Call of duty doesn't, so mixing that with the fact I find myself getting more annoyed, frustrated or angry playing a game I spent $109,95(AUD) for x 2 and then having to spend another 30 every three months for new "seasons" while having "BUY NOW" micro transactions thrown in my face whenever I attempt to log on?....I am begging Sony to make a back to basics Call of duty clone with less seasons better connections and cheaper microtransactions... Also...Xdefiant is aeesome but for the love of GOD people need to play the objective it's not TDM

If they want to innovate and really get ppl to take notice then they need to do something revolutionary with enemy AI. Its absolute madness no game has had better enemy AI in a FPS than F.E.A.R. Then make sure the combat loop is satisfying, environments are interesting and push the gfx as far as you can.

The next generation of COD players. Older gamers forget, there are new generations of gamers taking their place once they move on. The cycle usually goes Fortnite, then competitive, E-sports shooters like Valorant, CS2, maybe Overatch 2. Then, semi-realistic games like CoD and R6 Siege where you can aim down sights and not just hip fire. The culmination of this this journey are games like Escape from Tarkov, Ready or Not, Arma, etc. The true mil-sims for hardcore players. But CoD is part of that cycle and will always have players as a result.

You forget to factor in the fact that now king Midas owns CoD. And as history shows us, there's no franchise or studio that XBox can't ruin with their magic touch. So it is possible that with Microsoft's management mad skills, combined with an actual quality alternative, a real competition could appear from this eventually.

Yea so absolutely not gonna happen. Cod has been engrained into everyone's head since it's inception. I don't think it's possible for something to come out and just "kill" cod. I say this because in order to kill cod it would have to be just like COD 😂😂 . Any other game will be classified as something else and probably wouldn't even affect cod sales. Helldiver's 2 would be the closest thing and in no way shape or form will it touch cod.
