The game literally had an AWFUL story, 2v2 instead of 3v3 matches, Lesser roster of characters, bad art style, and cringe indusing voice over. I remember one of the controversies surrounding Gravity Rush 2 was the fact that it wasn't on the Vita at all. I have a Vita and adored the first game, but it was never something I was willing to spend $60, nor was it something I could see myself playing in my living room, on my tv. I'm sure the game is fantastic and screw Sony for how they treated Japan Studio, and the vita itself, but had it released on the vita, I would've bought it on day 1. Also, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite's failure was almost entirely Disney's fault. I'm sure people would've gotten over the shoddy artwork if they'd just put the goddamn x-men in the game, but that was when Disney was desperately trying to phase out the x-men in their vain effort to make fetch happen with the Inhumans.

"Were you one of the 12 people who bought a Vita?" Yes. It's like the Dreamcast of Handhelds. Definitely slept on but deserved so much better. It was also crazy expensive with 2 touch screens and 2 cameras. Why? I get that Tearaway used them all but I think debbie-downer like me should have overseen the project with a "no one cares about this" and cut out the 2nd touchscreen and both cameras to keep costs down. Also, I would have given the system an L2 and R2 button because PS1 games on PSP were awkward without them and a touch screen isn't a compelling alternative. But, at this point, I'm just creating a Switch about half a decade prior to that system releasing (which is now doing gangbusters, so at least my idea proved successful).

As someone playing Immortals of Aveum...it's okay at best. Still a shame to see what happened to the studio, but the writing, combat system, and a lot of it is clunky as I'll get. Only two things really help that game stand out. The visuals are freaking pretty! Like, everything is just a joy to look at and explore, and no detail goes to waste with this setting on that level, and it makes moving between the various areas just a joy, as you can never forget which level is which, and even puzzle areas will be remembered for later when you get more gear just for how unique each one looks, even if the puzzles are only so-so. And then there's Jak. Not the one with the orange weasel, the Jak of this game is actually one of the most personable, likable main leads I have seen in a good long while. He's just charming enough that nothing he does comes off as fake, so that he can waft between being a likable roguish type, and an in over his head newbie with whatever the scene needs, and the VA does it so well that it all works. The other characters are mostly memorable, but also have some really wonky writing moments, including some modern slang and terms that just shouldn't be in this setting(explained in universe post game interestingly enough, but far too late to do any good for the tonal whiplash it causes), but Jak himself is a real stand out.

A few things have changed in business in general that is causing much of this dev-hell strife and WILL kill the games industry eventually (though it'll come back later, by design), chief among them were a series of court cases in the last decade and a half that solidified in legal precedent (stronger than law in the US) that: 1) the Shareholders' Interests and Profits are the "Chief Fiduciary Responsibility" of ALL U.S. publicly traded companies, NOT the company itself. So, as long as Shareholders (and execs) come out ahead, it doesn't matter if the whole company goes under in the process AND 2) ALL U.S. Publicly Traded Companies are now REQUIRED to take ALL business actions that will benefit the Shareholder's (and execs) via Maximum Profit Margins (max profit, min cost: and talent and labor are costs) which MUST be *larger* year over year (and even month over month!). That means that if Live Service Mobile (LSM) games that target mtx "Whale spenders" MIGHT make more money than a given Fully Fledged Sequel or worse, Unproven New IP game, then they can be sued by the shareholders for NOT making the suggested LSM game, EVEN IF this hypothetical 'real' game IS, objectively AND financially, SUCCESSFUL! Only if it exceeds Projected Growth Profit Margins can they dodge the suit, and that just doesn't happen b/c the normal buyers are all tapped out... so if a shareholder on the board tells the board of directors of a company "X-thing will make more money than Y-thing your employee's want to make" and they don't do X-thing, they can be sued by that shareholder unless the resulting game exceeds fiduciary expectations, and the courts have already sided with the shareholders in this case, so they WILL lose (unless the shareholder told a game dev to stop making games and start mining gold in the Yukon, or some such nonsense) Since making huge profit is NOT enough to be considered a "success" by this Growth Metric (every game MUST make SIGNIFICANTLY MORE than EVERY prior game, to keep up) The result is a Boom-Bust economy, which the U.S., a Global Economic Driving Force, now favors over a stable economic structure. The only good news is that, once the company is driven into the ground by lawsuits from shareholders and shuts down, it cuts the Talent loose. So your favorite Dev troop may NOT be gone, just renamed after the Shareholders Vampired the Name you'd Loved to death, like all those great companies destroyed by EA that're now making great (probably indy) games under a different moniker. EAT THE RICH and Vote Blue to Save Gaming!

There were less characters, your team size was reduced by 1, the characters that were in the game were 90% of the characters from MVC3 that even their moves and buttons were the exact same. They had less Ultimates (most characters got 3 in mvc3 but changed to 1 or 2 in infinite). The only thing infinite did better than the previous titles, is having a fully cut scene story mode.

Imo presentation wasn't Infinite's problem, you knew from the get go what kind of cash grabbing slop you were getting your hands on, it made the same mistake I'd say Avengers made it was clearly trying to show off the "in" marvel heroes and villains, at the expense of Capcom's own fighters, the fact they cut out the X-Men, AND any mention of the FF despite somehow referencing the events of MvC3/U is baffling put in the fact that those stones did nothing special to really justify picking anything but either the power or soul stone, and then going back on their previously established three person teams. Then them competing with Dragon Ball Fighterz which was basically a MvC game with dragon ball characters and it's not a surprise no one bought the damn thing.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite WAS NOT critically acclaimed at all. Funny enough one of the two redeeming qualities of the game was the LACK of network issues. The other one is it was apparently very fun to play but I haven't played it myself so I cannot comment on that. First of all that was a rough patch for Capcom (or at least for their fighting game division) with the terrible launch of SF5 and before that Street Fighter x Tekken being a failure (at least in Capcom's eyes). Then there was the lack of X-Men characters who are iconic to the series as the entire thing started with X-Men vs. Street Fighter. Back then the Marvel Cinematic Universe was thriving and Fox Studios had the movie rights of X-Men so Marvel just didn't let Capcom use X-Men characters and pushed for the characters from the cinematic universe some of which people didn't care about and some even hated (like Captain Marvel) And finally there were the budget issues because Marvel just didn't care about the game and Capcom didn't believe in fighting games anymore I suppose.

Gravity Rush was one of those games that was at the top of my favorites for the Vita. Criminally underrated. The sequel was hot garbage.
