I have played the Mortal Kombat 2 Remix to death. Man, I hope Mortal Kombat 3 Remix receives the same love like this one has. Dare I say it? Yes, I will. Mortal Kombat 2 Remix has almost completely replaced the official release since I discovered it. While the original still has a special place in my heart, MK2 Remix has brought me more joy. The definitive M.U.G.E.N. Game in my books.

Someone needs to make some sort of documentary on the history of Mugens. Where and how they started, what the first one was and who made it, which ones are the best and worst, etc. id be very interested in knowing more about them Edit: oh and 8:52 speaking of that issue, WHY is the level rotation always random to the point of repeating the same ones? That is definitely an answer I would like to know

With the issue of stage rotation apparently it has to do with the coding, they could assign a specific stage for every character I believe but then they’d miss out on certain stages etc. truth is I don’t really know 100 percent however. ShinSmoke is usually pretty active in chat and has the answers as he works on these Mugens. Check out his channel if you get a chance 👊🏼

@@BushyStallion If only MK2 got an Ultimate MK2 version a year after release back in 1994. (regular MK3 came out in 1995) I would probably never touch UMK3 if that happened... Imagine an officially playable Jade, Shao Khan, Kintaro, Noob Saibot, and Smoke? BUT IN MK2. And a stage selector where we can pick Goro's lair. And of course some rebalance? I would have cried. But at least MK Trilogy was sort of a dream come true for a lot of kids, especially ones that always wandered what it was like to play as the boss characters. It's too bad MK Trilogy doesn't feel as smooth as UMK3 though. One more gripe: I wish UMK3 didn't give the girls buns, Jade looked so much cooler in MK2, along with the other two girls.

7:29 This problem comes from a basic command used for air projectiles that rely on the "forward/right" input. Unfortunately, all MKP MUGEN games are affected by this, as they share the same copied code. Fortunately, I was able to resolve it before the release of MK2U MUGEN back in late 2019.

I typically avoid MUGEN's due to how messy they can be, as Darryl has shown in some of his videos. But Mortal Kombat II Remix is a definite exception. This one is a keeper.

Still my favorite- I usually give in to spamming moves right on the "Fight" command as well as spamming fatality moves for some cool glitches, that the game usually recovers from...even if it means throwing off the Wins counter and tokens. It's so much fun. If they could just fix Kitana's air-fan combos

This original version is so much better and I only seen it once as a kid in a Burger King in New York on Governors Island in 1994. They had MK2.... I remember seeing you play THIS when you first uploaded it and then I asked you and you went through the whole thing with me personally to help me install it which still means a whole lot even though it was kind of frustrating cause my computer is like the non self aware version of Skynet lol if that makes sense lol. Steve Richie is forever Shao Kahn to us MK purists. Having said that, if I have any criticism of his performance in Shaolin Monks is that I think he did too much of the "heavy lifting" of sounding like Shao Kahn instead of allowing the heavy lifting to be done with the modulation machine they use. If you watch any of the behind the scenes of his voicing of Shao Kahn for II/3/UMK3 he's actually speaking relatively "smooth" and soft. I think that translated well to his intimidation factor. Gravely and booming is an expected voice, but smooth and booming is a voice that is more cunning. Anyway, Great Job Darryl!

Agreed MUGEN is the way too go! There's SO many mugen games out there as well, you just have to find them. I've been playing MK Mugen games since 2014!!! So the backlog is huge here. Mugen is the place to go for that true MK experience now, and the engine does and it always gets better as well.

I wish somebody will set up the controller on Xbox or ps5 A- low punch B- low kick X- high punch Y- high kick LT- block LR- run Even the steam deck profiles are not perfect. For example one has the joystick but not the d pad working. The other has the dpad but not joysticks working. And y is block? While rt is high kick? Should be flipped. Also Ritchie’s voice should be back. I can’t get used to this voice is not bad but is just not Ritchie. I really want to love this… but Kitana”s combos are gimped. I haven’t seen any success with a consistent fan, deep jump kick, kitana spin and flying punch. I can do it on other Mugen’s and of course the officials. This may be fun for the other characters but a Kitana main is NOT happy with this version.

This looks very much like a mugen I can get behind. I always thought they were cool, but the constant out of place characters getting thrown in just loses its charm quickly for me. Honestly, thats how I feel about the guest characters in newer MK games, that gimmick got old quick lol nothing beats old school MK anyway. 2 will probably always be my favorite.

i wish they would make a rom hack of this version here 😢, i think mortal kombat 2 is better then mk3. i was playing mk3 the other day and it’s so hard even on easy lol the AI is brutal and spams the throws and cheap moves. really the only mk games worth the time playing is mk1 & 2
