I wish someone would make a serious version with mugen. I know the series kind of got goofier as time went on in a way, but Mortal Kombat 1 had a very serious tone, and I think Mortal Kombat 2 continued it (I feel that friendships, babalities were just fun secrets). To me, Mortal Kombat peaked at 2. I know there are some very good versions of MK2 with mugen I've played them. But if someone would make some kind of mk1/mk2 combination and stay razer focused on being serious, making sure all the art and backgrounds flow with each other's style, that would be a dream. A game that captures the mystery of the original games, there was this...I know what you'd call it but a feeling to the old ones.

That might be harder than you think to implement. Story wise combining MK1 and MKII together is a train wreck as MK1's tournament takes place in Earth Realm while MKII's tournamment takes place in the Outworld. The only thing that would work would be to put both games on a continued story progression but without ever mixing the two together.

Many non-MK characters have moves that resemble those of other MK characters, and they also lack the required sprites for the finishers to function properly in fights against them. It's frustrating because many of these non-MK characters are unfinished, and their bad coding can cause the game to crash within minutes. That's why I steer clear of MK MUGEN games with ridiculous large rosters, I know from experience that dealing with glitchy characters and mechanics just ruins the fun for me. I really wish more creators of MK MUGEN games would prioritize fixing bugs instead of just adding characters, stages, and music without tackling the real problems. This is why many MKP compilations tend to have similar gameplay problems. For me, MUGEN is all about how well a character, stage, and mechanic are coded, how effectively the AI is programmed, and how well bugs are resolved, rather than just the graphics or sprites.

This is sort of a what I think about when it comes to MK Mugen games. Bloated roster of characters you'll never use more than once and a overall gimmick that will quickly wear thin. I much prefer simpler MUGENS thatcould have almost been real. Give me MK1 with playable Goro and Shang Tsung Give me MKII with playable hidden/boss characters Those are the best to me.
