This is the kind of mechanic that I can come up with a quite easy implementation BUT OH BOY is this clean. So much polish went into it. And the amount of play test done must have been ginormous. It seems like they thought of every edge and corner case possible. Cases that probably would raise the complexity of the implementation to expert levels of big brain.

This game and Superliminal both blow my mind beyond anything else I've seen. It has the same mind fuckery affect as time travel paradoxes like in the movie Tenet. It just makes you think outside the box (and reality). It's super creative and I love it.

I'm not too sure on the programming aspect, however, it's probably no different than when games can spawn in items for you just on a much larger scale for the photographs.

7:16 - The term you are looking for is Boolean. A Boolean operation uses the volume of one mesh to add or subtract one mesh from another. It basically subtracts a really deep cube from the world and adds in a predefined set of meshes in it's place, as two different operations happening simultaneously. Really clever, and super easy to implement. You wouldn't be able to do this too often in real time, so limiting the number of times you can do it with the photographs is ingenious. All around, really impressive.

Interesting thing I found out. The first book page at 10:49 reads "He promised to help but only if I beat him in Mahjong, which is entirely unfair. Hopefully, with the help of a cute kitty, I might be able to cheat." It almost exactly references the scene in the newest puss in boots where Puss cheated in a game of aces I believe and called Death unfair for cheating one of his 9 lives. Kinda cool.

In smitty's video of the demo I saw the evil eyes everywhere. I recently did a study abroad session in Greece where I learned how popular they were there. But I could tell that the characters obviously weren't Greek. I looked up Hiraya's name and found that it was Filipino. Apparently the the evil eye originated in the Mediterranean area (mainly Greece and Turkey) and spread to other countries. One of the countries it spread to was Spain, who brought over when colonizing the Philippines. It's interesting how the design has remained nearly unchanged.

I do also have to say that I feel like the most effective way to represent a demographic, is to just have them be that demographic. You don't need to make any mention of the fact that they're part of that demographic. Hiraya being Filipino and the world having a Filipino design works well because there's no mention of the fact that that you aren't use to seeing this demographic in games. You don't always need to focus on pointing out that your trying to represent a different demographic in a game (or any media). It makes it seem a little less genuine.

FR!! Hiraya being filipino was such a pleasant surprise and I had to replay the part when she just casually went "ang ganda." Plus seeing Hiraya's station with all the packs of dried mangoes strewn about, that bomb ass bibingka, the traditional bamboo furniture that my grandparents have back home and even the bagras trees from Mindanao in all their colorful and vibrant glory just made my heart sing with pride and happiness!!

I watched you play this game's demo and I was amazed just as much as you were. I completely forgot about it and haven't seen any of your videos in a while. I found this one though, I'm really glad I did. I love games like these, and you make watching them amazing. And yes, at some points I was like "Omg you're supposed to do this to finish the level! Stop doing that!" but that's perfectly fine, if anything, it made the video better. Slightly longer for me to enjoy. Thank you for being a great guy and I will be happily waiting for the next part.
