Two pointers on the challenges you note. The pump sack is quite effective if you follow the directions. When you blow a puff of air into it, it creates a vortex and sucks air into it. I believe the instructions are printed right on the pump sack. Secondly there's a bleed valve in the center of the valve accessible when the cap is off. Not necessarily an all or nothing situation. Love that pad as well.

Yes. Pump sack works great!! Blow into opening from 10-12 inches away. 2-3 breaths and sack is full. 2-3 sacks and pad is full. This pump sack works better than every other sack I have used! Also, there is a small nipple thingy on value. You just press it and air releases slowly until you get a perfect volume.

I just wish I could use it for a stuff sack so it would be multipurpose. It does work better and faster than any other pump sack I’ve used.

Actually really like the pump sack. You need to blow a fast burst of breath a foot from the opening. The venturi effect drags a lot of air in. The small opening makes it really quick to seal the mouth from air leaking out.

It relies on Bernoulli‘s principle and does fill with a single breath from 6-12 inches away. This pad reveals who remembers watching Bill Nye as a kid and who relied only on public “education”.

I use my Exped Schnozzle pumpsack for my Tensor, it fits slightly loose but it does work and it doubles as a dry/compression sack for my quilt as a redundant protection layer in addition to my pack liner

I also use the Schnozzle for my Tensor, and as a "dry" sack. I cut a a piece off an old bike tire intertube and stretched it over the Schnozzle's nozzle. Fits well now.

I've had my Tensor for a few years including the AT this year. No holes yet, but I do take care of it. On the AT I did have a ⅛: ensolite pad under it for additional protection and warmth. I found the pump sack extremely easy to use!! You hold it open, blow into it from several inches away and the Venturi effect will fill the sack in a couple of puffs. I really don't understand why anyone has trouble with this. I didn't have any difficulty with the valves either, you just have to be conscious of which tab you pull. Edited to correct ensolite pad thickness.

I had 3 of the updated pads fail this year. The tensor insulated. All were replaced under warranty. Also you can depress the valve to adjust the firmness. Also try holding the pump sack further from your face about 8-10 inches a single breath should fill the pump sack. They actually have the best pump sack included with a pad. The fillo pillows they offer are awesome and their sleeping bags offer a sleeve for the pillow to stay in place. Overall I like nemo but I unfortunately couldn't keep the tensor pad from failing. Maybe I was inflating it to much. I like a firm solid pad. It made the baffles come unglued.
@rudysal1429
@rudysal1429 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you over inflated it. Glad you were able to clarify some of the mistakes he mentioned in the video. The valve is easy to adjust by pushing the little nipple thing. The bag is also something I've seen people mess up and apparently don't read the manual. Now from 8-12 inches and it fills up with one breath.

The best pump sack is the Big Agnes with the plug and collar. The Nemo Trnsor Insulated is very comfortable, modestly warm. I am on my second version. Very crinkly chip baggie. Super comfy. That is until I tried the new Neoair Xlite NXT. OMFG it is quiet, plush and comfy

I have a Neoair Xtherm that I have used for about 11 years - with ZERO leaks. I have used it for many weekend trips including some winter outings, around 30 nights per year and now more recently I am using it for longer 6-10 day trips. I did not baby it, but used common sense in using and storing it. Just today I ordered a Thermarest replacement - partly as an upgrade but mostly because I don't how much longer I can rely on the original pad -- & I took advantage of a holiday sale.

I have the updated 2022 version now and I love it. Amazing warmth-to-weight ratio and the valve allows to push a little air out for minor adjustments (Sounds like your older version might not allow for that?) although I still hate the valve overall due to being hard to open and close properly. Wish Nemo would update the valve to be more user friendly like Sea to Summit. Maybe you would like the updated Nemo better.

Since this video is over a year old have you figured out the pump sack. You have to blow into it from a certain distance so it draws the surrounding air into it.

Maybe I haven't experienced "quality pump sacks" but it takes me just 5 breaths to fully inflate the regular-wide version, so I got no complaints

I've had my uninsulated Nemo as long as you've had this one. I also have the Tensor Alpine and use it exclusively as my winter pad. I live in New England and have camped into the low teens and the Alpine Tensor is great. I did get a pinhole in the Alpine, patched it up and it's fine. Last summer the uninsulated Tensor started leaking at the inflation valve so I opened a warranty claim. Meantime thankfully I still had my topoluxe as a stand in. It took 6 weeks, but Nemo sent me a replacement pad, and since they have upgraded their temp ratings, my replacement pad has an R-Value of 2.5, the old one was only 1.6. Pretty happy about that! Sadly, still the same inflation sack.

Have to agree with others, I actually really like the pump sack. Keeping it about a foot from my mouth, I can fully inflate my long wide pad in 3 breaths. And you can adjust the air inside. Push the little stringy piece and a tiny amount of air comes out, until you let go.

You guys continue to embarrass me with how you use your favorite pad. You can "micro"-adjust the release of air by pushing on the valve with the first cover off. Also, you've got to use the pump sack correctly. It's actually the BEST pump sack on the market. I can fill the bag with a single puff. The hole is small for a reason. You need to back off about 12 inches and blow a puff of air in that hole. Using the Bernoulli principle, as your air flows into that small hole, 4-5x that amount of air gets pulled in with it and you have a completely full pump sack. This past weekend, I was camping with a big group of bikepackers and I looked across camp at a guy blowing up his pump sack like you guys do and getting really frustrated. I walked over and backed off and blew one puff of air into the hole and it filled up. The camp went wild. No one knew how to do that. They wanted me to show people at another camp. Baffles me. It's in the directions on the sack. C'mon guys. YOu're driving me crazy. But I love ya.

Funny, mine was the opposite. It never lived. From day one, it would never hold air. After several trips, I finally returned it to REI. Even tried to find the leak, with no luck.

Good to know since I just received an insulated reg wide Tensor last week. I'll probably use it on a trip after Thanksgiving. My old thermarest prolites are still working for close to a decade. Good for family campouts, but I needed better pads for my backpacking trips. My Exped down mat 9xl is good for winter use but too heavy for shoulder seasons compared to other options. My thermarest xtherm sounds crinkly. Just haven't had time to open the Tensor box since it arrived last week

You said you've got a hot tent now, "so does it (warmth) even matter?". Yes. At 5am when it's 15 degrees and the fire in the stove is out, that's when it matters. 😉

nemo has a great warranty but it takes months to get any traction on it because it's 2 weeks in between each email convo... message them about the pad, wait 2 weeks, reply, wait 2 weeks, they reply about getting a new pad vs a credit, you reply, wait 2 weeks, then you pick something else and wait 2 weeks, then they send the wrong invoice, you reply, and wait 2 weeks, etc....and every time you reply you get the same email about how busy they are. You try and call and they have a phone they never answer and they don't call back. I finally received all my items after they were on back order. I had to buy a new pad from a local store to fill in all that time. Yes yo eventually get your new pad or what you purchased with the credit because you had to buy a new pad in the mean time...but wow, they may need more staff answering emails.

I remember recommending that pad when you were looking for one, I think it was when you were having knee problems in the hammocks, 🤣 that's been a long time now, I think you only had about 1k subs then, I bought my Nemo in 2018, it's been through all sorts of weather, the rocks of Pa and the AT from WV to the NY border. I'm glad you guys have been around as long as my pad.😂

Again, the narrow neck of the pump sack is an asset. Read the directions! The sack fills with one short breath. Best pump sack my opinion not the worst. Again read the directions and stay far away when you breathe.

sorry bro... you just dont know how to use the gear. it does bleed? push on the first opening and it will let out a small amount of air. the pump sack does work well? the small opening is so it doesnt allow air out quickly, and if you blow on it from far enough away like 8-10 inch like the directions state ON the bag, it will fill quickly. dont blame the gear for user error.
