Oh Max, to be clear, I don't actually watch to see what you are achieving. I watch because I love your energy, and your commitment to kindness. I would watch you and Occy play board games, sit on the porch, talk about whatever you are up too. I am physically not able to leave my home to spend time with the people I love. So your videos are my way of having coffee with a sweetheart I would enjoy being friends with, and his epic pup. Of course I appreciate the beauty of your land, and all of your adventures. But if I wanted to be entertained, I have Netflix for that. I watch your channel, because it's nice to know there is this compassionate, energetic, and funny guy out there, that it genuine, and that I get to invite into my home some Sunday mornings. All you have to do to get some of us to watch these videos, is exist. And share Occy with us... Who wouldn't be in love with that guy. 😊

Im now 72, in the burbs on the east coast NSW. 40 odd years ago i headed off to start a community in Tassie. House and everything built with hand tools. Brace and bit, draw knife, hammers and chisels etc. No power and no battery powered tools. Watching your adventures I say go the technology, make life as easy as you can so you have time to rest and smell the roses/coffee. Looking back i think i just wanted to see if our family could build a mud brick house etc by hand. Dont regret the experience but I did decide i wouldnt do it again. Thanks for all your heart and kindness. PS the mud brick house is now an air bnb...❤

I needed to make sure my van was well-equipped so I could sitll work (and game) when living in my van, or developing land in the middle of nowhere, and traveling, all pre-Starlink. One of my favorite moments, up there with your awesome lawn mower, was hosting game night in the middle of the Arizona desert with a great group of nomads, and projecting it across the entire side of the van so people could watch The graphics were gorgeous! the weather was great, the people amazing.

Oh my goodness! This is the first time I've seen a robot lawn mower! I must tell my daughter about this. Since her husband died of COVID, she has been stuck with mowing, weed eating, and edging, her front and back yards. It's very hard on her because it is brutally hot these days, and because she works full-time, the only time she has to mow is early evening after work. I hope she can afford it! :) The cabin looks fantastic, and now the fireplace. Oh my!!! The hearth turned out beautifully, and the fire is fabulous. Why shouldn't we admire the old and use the new in our lives? You've done that well, my friend. Take care. xoxoxoxoxo

I love what you did with the brick, I was thinking the corners looked like a feather, but leaf fits too. I don't watch your show to see a pro, doing renovations, I am watching a man, dealing with what life brings, and making a home, and not afraid to do it alone. You have taken a house, that was nearly condemned, and bit by bit, you are giving it life, and making it yours. Its so great to see you fall in love with this house, that at one point, you kind of gave up on, and maybe had some resentment. But at some point rushing to get it ready for guests, you saw a house that you could stay in, and once you moved in, you started seeing the way it could be better, that it could be yours, and since, you are making your home. That is why I watch this channel, I never knew a thing about you when I watched the first of your videos, right after you bought it and had to do the roof. So if one thing doesn't work out, you have learned, that you can find another way, and that finding that other way, to make things work, is a part of your journey.

I'm glad you discussed how important it is to have balance. this came up in a recent conversation with friends, the importance of slowing down and measuring progress differently and not by how much you crank out. I know that I'm always shocked by how much you manage to do in these videos, and I sometimes worry about you burning out. Glad you're mindful about that and pace yourself kindly. ❣💛

I appreciate that you’re real and vulnerable. ‘Perfect’ makes me feel insufficient and uncomfortable. Nobody has good days every single day. I for one don’t mind seeing the good, the bad and the ugly 😂.

Great job on the hearth! And I love the robot vacuum and mower. Nothing says a simple life means working harder with modern convenience. That just allows you more time to enjoy what you’re building and life in general 🥰

We bought a home over 100 yrs old in SFo. We had a brick fireplace & had it checked every so many yrs ... then I got lazy. Yup! Our house caught on fire!🔥🚒 We just put up new siding & that prevented the house going up in flames🔥. Scary 💩! So I definitely agreed w/cememt boatd & reinforcing the flr joists. The hearth is beautiful & I'm alwaus amazed at the manynskills you've pucked upnsince renovating your house. GOOD JOB! Also having a Good Friend like Ken is GR8 too! ❤ the new robotic lawn mower!

Hi Max from the UK.. fire place and log burner looks fab! From a log burner owner myself, it transforms evenings when it’s cold and wet outside, enjoy! Oh yer, to clean the glass, just damp a cloth, dip it in the cold ash and scrub over the glass. When done, just use a clean tissue/ rag to wipe of.. bingo! No detergents, it rots the glass seals. Great channel, been following a while now.. Love Occy 😍🥰

Max, you are living the dream - and it's yours to make in any way that suits - I love the new hearth, I love the mower - jeez, what a game changer! I thought they'd only be good for 'normal' lawns, but to see that motor through everything!

I love the hearth. It turned out to look very professional and cozy in the house. The idea of combining technology with homesteading to make life easier is such a necessity to be able to enjoy life a little more. I also have about 2.5 acres and it is constant work and maintenance. The ability to automate things is a game changer for giving yourself more time to focus on the things you really want to be doing. Good on ya!

Mulled wine and pizza by the new fire! Another brilliant job Max. Your home is getting more homely with each video. The hearth is beautiful and gives the brick wall its purpose. I totally agree - homesteading and modern tech don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Nobody is out there giving medals to those who tough it out just for the sake of it. If a bit few pieces of technology make it a bit easier to safely maintain and enjoy your property, go for it. Life is for living.

Oh my, that fire place looks amazing.. the brickwork came up so well. I hope you are very proud of yourself👏 Work saving technology was sent to help everyone.. Let’s face it, you didn’t go out to live in the rain forest in a cave, with your horse, hunting and gathering 🤣😂🤣 You went to simplify your life, keep yourself happy and have fun. Enjoy whatever you want.. Sending ❤️

Love your comment of off-grid living. It doesn’t mean forsaking all technology. Just a note on the fireplace. You’ll want to reinforce the joists underneath it. That’s an awful lot of weight with the bricks and cast iron stove for that one old joist (maybe rotting) to handle.

Love the hearth ! The red bricks are amazing. I also agree , a little modern technology can easily coexist with old school ways . Keeps us slowly moving forward . 🙂

I don’t think that anyone should judge you on what you do on your own homestead or living off grid. I think it’s amazing that a Robot mower can help out when there is a lot to do. I have seen it on others and it does do a fantastic job. Anyways your fireplace came out great. I just love the beauty that surrounds your property it’s a peace of paradise. Thank you for sharing and looking forward for more. Lots of love from 🇺🇸❤️🙏🏻
