I had a dabble with weathering yesterday. I ended up building an old Airfix Mk1 WW1 tank kit I had knocking around. I painted it up in drab khaki using an acrylic paint pen and then doused it liberally with a wash I bought online. Army Painter stron tone. I was gobsmacked how good it looks just with the wash. It really transformed a simple model into something I would put on display. Next step is trying those powders on the treads!

Hi Craigy baby. Firstly, well done on reaching your preliminary target of 1,000 subscribers. 👍👍 Just goes to show how many viewers have nothing else to do with their life. 😂😂 Good weathering job although it was hard trying to keep up viewing at 100mph. 😂 Like the haircut matey as it makes you look like a modern day Hell's Angel. Speaking of which, when are you going to take a trip on your 'Harley Davidson' and treat us to some 1:1 prototype industrial filming of shunting etc. from your area or thereabouts? 🤔 Yes, more footage of running sessions please! That 'exhibition layout' of yours is superb, especially with all that weathering on the locos. Should be a challenge getting it to a show but if it's too much for you, get your other half to take it there and tell her you'll meet her there later once it's erected. 😄 I was going to construct a similar layout as I find end-to-end running more challenging than roundy-roundy operations as you are always getting involved with no time for boredom. However, due to medical issues, I have been put on a course of steroids along with the mandatory weekly hospital checkups ☹️ so I have had to put that on hold. Oh well, shit happens, and then you die. 😂 Cheers me ol' mucker, Paul. 👍 P.S. Pop down to your local hardware store and purchase a smallish tin of matt sky-blue emulsion to paint the backdrop with. Hi Ian! I actually use a range of different powders for desired tones, mix them together too.. etc... But my main arsenal of Powders are DCC Concepts, I also use Humbrol too! Cheers!

Gotta wonder with those Hattons prices if they're selling them at break even just for a bit of publicity/extra business. If your increasing your customer base and breeding loyalty in the process and generating further trade by suggesting products others have purchased next to these cheap locos well it pays for its self to sell them without wanting or needing direct profit on them. pretty bog standard retail psychology stuff really.

If is, but with 'own brand' items the mark up is usually FAR higher than reselling 3rd party items, so even when dropping the prices they're still more than likely making more money selling their own stuff than a 3rd party's. No sense in making your own brand product a leading loss, you'd do that with a cheaper 3rd party item if you were going to do it at all... Not to mention the tooling is all paid off too, but we'll see what happens!

@@IronHorseRailways in this day and age a good name not dragged through the dirt of the hobby is worth it's weight in gold. If I were them I'd sell them as such just for the headline and the brand positioning of being that guy that doesn't appear to be ripping you off. I suspect others are at the same game of selling at near break even or very very slim margins on purpose just to garner support. If the option comes down to making 10 quid profit per loco or dropping the price by 10 quid to as you say pull the pants down on the competition and cause a stir as a business person you'd be silly not to let the tenner slip in exchange of the publicity and extra trade it brings.
