@@LukeBarousse If I may offer a suggestion, IDK about others, but I would find it helpful to have even just an overview on the "how" aspect. What I mean is that even with as much training as I have, I look at even "basic" requests on freelance platforms and think, "I would have no idea where to start on this." Do be more specific, I just got my MTA's for SQL and Python, I completed IBM courses in Python for Data Science and Machine Learning with Python, and I'm wrapping up a Linkin Learning Pathway for Deep Learning. I pass the tests on the first go with higher than average test scores - so apparently I'm learning the material, but applying it escapes me so far. In the courses, it feels very spoonfed - "do this, now do that," or else, "here is the basic structure, now fill in the missing parameters." If your passion is teaching, _please_ consider this request! From my perspective, I'm still at a loss as to why all these different sources teach this way. I'm no educator by trade, but if it were me, I wouldn't even bother teaching someone something as basic as a print command until I first gave them a _reason_ to use it. IOW, "let's say you want to do *X* - how would we go about figuring out how to do *X* with deep learning (or whatever), *_and then_* how would we program that." Just a suggestion, though. Thank you for the information in the video, regardless

What platform/setup/license would you recommend? I'm expert level in Power BI for my line of work, but I'd prefer to stay on Mac and I wonder if I should switch to Tableau. Do you know which platform is more widely adopted for community projects that might be shared and used and have opportunity to become popular (I know wishful thinking but why not to dream big? :)) ? Hey my dude, it seems like you are on the correct path in your learning journey. As a data analysts, I may not be the best person to answer this as my route of learning tools for my job differ from that of a data anlaysts. I recommend you reach out to any of the other Data Scientist KZbinrs as they may be able to provide better guidance. Overall though, you have to put in the time and effort, there are a lot of different paid and unpaid courses out there that are good options. Good luck my dude!

@LukeBarousse3 жыл бұрын
They have soooo many options, I feel your pain. Honestly, the easiest way is pick one and go (whether it's a BI tool like tableau or coding tool like python). Stick with this one tool and then once you feel familiar expand from there.

What can I do about job postings asking for "highest level of education" when I'm self taught and have graduated from an (unaccredited) online data science course? (Springboard data science career track) I have some college but no degree
@LukeBarousse3 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one. Obviously i'd recommend you be honest and capture your self-taught education in other parts of the form. IMHO if a company only wants to hire someone based on having a certain degree and not taking into account experience and portfolio, I don't think I would want to work for said-company.

@@LukeBarousse that's government jobs Africa. They only care about degrees (don't even care where the degrees were obtained from). Some unscruplous folks just go ahead and PURCHASE said degrees. Shady universities in this business abound here.

You mention about biology. And i have bachelor degree in biology. Is that good background for data science? I'm afraid that i get into wrong passion and force me to get another related degree with data analyst, like statistics degree. 🙏
@LukeBarousse3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I just spit out the first topic that came to my head... haha. BUT data science can be applied in so many fields, that is the great thing about this topic. With a background in biology you are more familiar with this topic so it would be more of an ease for you to explore data in this field, vice someone like me that may have a data science background and no biology background.
@LukeBarousse3 жыл бұрын
Also, this is a good way to transition... Start doing data science work in biology.. then once you are familiar with data science you can then apply to other fields you are passionate about.

I just completed the data science specialization of JHU on Coursera. The lecturers here highly recommended a Degree in Statistics as a prerequisite for a well-rounded data scientist. Having said that, domain expertise (such as biology in your case) is also a bonus. Therefore, I would advise you to start exploring biology stuff where data analysis and machine learning can be applied and start a statistics program if you have the required time and resources

My undergraduate degree is in engineering and I took some coding classes, but for my Masters I focused on business analytics, so that is where I started to pick up a lot of these things. Unfortunately I would say most of my data science skills were self-taught and my Masters just inspired me to branch out and learn it myself.
