It's more than a half-time shuffle. The comment doesn't reflect well on someone considering the groove on "Take the A Train" to be comparable to this fairly complex groove. (Bohnams track on "Fool in the Rain" was the original influence for this groove). This is the problem with the internet. I remember when this album and particularly this song dropped on the radio. It hit like an atomic bomb. Even though it was hit parade stuff, the musicians appreciated that really elite jazz grooves and drumming were making an impact on pop music. Steely Dan was also doing the same at that time too. I'd like to hear today's groups get off their drum machines and hit the sticks like the masters of yore.

I'm sick of comments sections questioning your technical ability. Thank you for putting an ender to the conversation, dude.
@drumdone Жыл бұрын
I've not seen anyone question his technical ability, but players like Jeff Porcaro had a certain something that elevated this groove to something above the norm and it became more than the sum of its parts. I think he's demonstrating that here, playing the beat, and a little extra, technically well, but not really with the feel and depth of rhythm that Jeff and very few others have.
@joelcr2383 Жыл бұрын
@@drumdone You have now continued the conversation. So, Jeff Porcaro, Bernard Purdie and any other people that have originated or furthered this groove, do not detract from this man's technical ability and aren't something to put him down as that is not necessarily his artistic intention to better them. Dumb conversation, every time.
