I’ve had a few serious session players come over and play my Nacho - they all say it’s the best Tele they’ve ever played and they’ve owned and played lots of vintage Fenders. I mentioned this before, if you don’t like the relic idea, Nacho also does some very light relic guitars that play/sound like magic as well.

The Nachos are incredible guitars, no doubt. There are other builders out there who's work is of the same standard. The price of these things make them all too exclusive. We have to remember that the originals where built by semi-skilled immigrant labour, the neck is the soul of an instrument and Tadeo Gomez was a real craftsman, probably had good seasoned wood back then too?.

People hate on Relics but to have a Tele thats worn, aged, and resonant like that would be so special. You couldn’t not get a great tone from it and would be so inspiring to play. I’d liken it to one of those Stradivarius violins. I have a Fender Custom Shop Tele that I love but that Nacho would be a dream guitar for me.

Only problem I have had is the screw holes for the hod dog control plate on one has kinda disintegrated from whatever nacho uses to age the stuff. But I plugged them and it’s holding

I wonder sometimes about just how much difference there is between these boutique "Fenders" and their lesser counterparts. After you plug them into some kind of processor, say an HX Stomp, dial in just a little break up, just about anything is going to sound pretty good. And in the hands of Mr. Cordy here, it is going to sound great. I have a Fender FSR Telecaster (MEX) I bought new from one of the big internet retailers a few years ago for less than $500 without a case. Modern C shape neck, Medium Jumbo frets, 9.5 inch radius maple neck & board, some noiseless Fender pups, about 7.5 lbs. in butterscotch, etc. etc. So this guitar sounds really good (sounds like a Telecaster), plays perfectly, and it's a Telecaster, a simple body cut out of some kind of ash with a maple neck bolted to it. So what exactly is going to make a Telecaster that costs $4000 or $5000 (or much more) sound dramatically different? I would guess that any discernable difference is going to be attributable to the pickups, and even if there is a subtle difference is anyone going to be able to tell? I doubt even a blindfolded player would know if the guitar is set up well. Honestly listening to this video I just thought that this guitar sounds just like my Telecaster.

It sounds really sweet. Once again I'd say that's more down to your playing skills than the instrument itself - which for a aged example looks really authentic. And, yes, to me the Nacho has a much mellower tone.

I have Natcho's The Blackguard Book. Great book. I also had a Fender AVRI 52 Telecaster that I loved but the pickups were so noisy. I swapped them for Seymour Duncan stacked Telecaster pickups and hated the sound. I ended up using the Telecaster as part of the trade towards a beautiful 2014 Gibson Custom Shop R8.

Ted Greene used them. When Fender attempted to make good guitars again they borrowed some stuff from Ted and tried to copy them. In case you haven't noticed, there was Ted Greene, and then the rest of us. In my life time there was Ted, Lenny Breau, and George Ban Eps ( the Einstein of guitar). Ted could do all of the Rock stuff too. Most people haven't heard how vast his knowledge was, they have just heard the chord melody.. I always went to where the fire was (metaphorically, and now literally). The problem with that is you learn the truth about how good you are, or aren't. I heard him play a wedding and I am pretty sure it permanently damaged my psyche. There is a reason most of the jazz/chord melody players use telecasters-Ted influenced many guitarist's- he even influenced Fender..

A company called Pre War can do it with Martins. We had a Luthier in the 70's could copy anything (he even fooled George by accident once). Copying old guitars isn't new, it is just popular now. It is like Strads, a very famous violinist used a copy for yeas and NO ONE NOTICED. A scientist in Austin Tx figured out the mineral content in the wood. and they took the prepared wood to Cremona to have it made. There are some serious genius" in this world.

I had a custom shop double esquire made, the thing rips. I would put it up against the nacho caster any day. Mine has that soft vneck. One thing to note, is that I had the bridge pickup turned so that the base poles are closer to the saddle and the treble are closer to the neck. I also don’t have a tone control, but instead I have a blend knob, which allows me to dial in the bridge with the neck pickup in the middle position.

Yeah it sounds great but I only listened not watched this the first time & so I didn't get blown away by the relicked guitar. Plus, Leo Fender's original vision for his guitars was to offer an easily repairable even replaceable instrument for consumers far more akin to school pencils or denim jeans than heirloom pianos. So even things like impermanent finishes & player wear weren't seen as something to preserve but to conveniently solve with a fully functioning newly finished instrument much as a new pair of jeans would solve. IMHO it's really the resurrection of conservative attitudes after WWII reconstruction including population restoration that has imposed provenance as important even for electric guitars today which can arguably evidence Western human civilization having successfully emerged from the horrors of the 20th century. So I don't mind that divergence from Leo Fender's original vision but I do find it humorously ironic.
