I'm guessing they're thinking of the paternity tests you see on TV, where they give a *percentage chance* that the people in question are closely related. In *that* case, 100% would probably be a reasonable result. That's *hugely* different from the percentage of shared DNA.

Yes, and the more they actually acknowledge the more it becomes the god of the gaps. Since the gaps are getting fewer and smaller, the statements from religion gets more and more absurd to actually fit into those remaining gaps. The self-contradiction skyrockets. They try to argue "you have to take this literally and this metaphorically one cherry at a time". That's also the biggest issue with flerfs. They just can't see the full picture at once.

Religion is a bad habit started when people let their brains fall out the moment they were told about magic apples that impart knowledge and talking snakes. I think the Catholic Church thinks that “God guided the process of evolution to bring forth the emergence of humans” or something like that. If not them, then some type of Christianity thinks that way. You totally can look at Genesis in an evolutionary lens.

Atoms are too small and don't interact with light in a way that light can be used to see them. It means that no matter how great of a lens we use no optical microscope could visualize an atom. I think we kind of obtained something similar using electrons instead of photons.

32:40 this is one of my biggest creationist pet peaves. Earth did not come factory direct with an atmosphere that supports OUR life. There was no free oxygen when the earth first formed. That wouldn't happen for about another 2 billion years, because there was no photosynthesis. Then, after its arrival, it took another nearly 2 billion years for the earth to accumulate enough free oxygen for complex life (along with ozone to protect against radiation on land). And we know there was no free oxygen because we can dig up the ancient, oldest rocks which should be oxidized but aren't because there was no free oxygen at the time.

The challenge would be to convince him that he should apply the same criteria to EVERYTING he thinks is true- if the Bible doesn't say the Earth is a sphere, or that smoking is bad for you, or that the flu is tnasmissible but cancer isn't, then it hasn't been "undeniably proven"
