Some p3opl3 tend to think other societies which are very Patriarchal, including Islamic cultures are immune to this, but I can tell you it's not even the case. Every Muslim person I've known who is married feels "drained", his wife controls everything and they are ultimately miserable. The wives tend to be far more religious than the husbands in that religion, so if they even catch a bottle of alcohol in the house, they will even divorce them over that. The religion encourages it. The thing is most modern couples and marriages, only get together for mutual circumstances that complement each other for survival or a lifestyle / financial security. Not out of love or enjoying the other person's company.

As always, it comes down to language. If you define the word "wife" rationally then this is quickly resolved.
