Grubby, I just want to say that after a decade of (almost) absence, I found myself again in the middle of the WC3-verse, I am playing Ladder for fun, enjoying Custom Maps with new Friends from Bnet and building my own maps again. You brought the enthusiasm back in my life after I settled down, like you brought me fascination to this game as a teen almost two decades ago. When I was in primary school, Warcraft 3 was my first game ever to play on a computer, and I remember making lots of shamans just because I liked how they looked. Then I would cast lightning shield on all my units thinking they would get more resistant, just because in the icon of the spell is a shield drawn. Those were the times man..

watching this series has made me realize why i struggle so much with orc & do better with night elf. ORC: I go blade + HH + WR into t3 expansion (slow expo). I never get fortified burrows, I never get tiny great hall, I never get salves because my salves get canceled, I never get speed scroll, i go HH + WR to save on upgrades, always not enough lumber peons but i don't get shredder because it feels like i shouldn't have to, i lose my grunts + blade too easily by not escaping, I right click spell-breaker with taurens and they all die without doing anything, I only get accidental surrounds, I forget to get fortified and lose all my burrows, when attacking their base I target huntress hall instead of repair workers as the micro is easier, i forget pillage exists, i forget to research ensnare, i have 4 workers on gold half the time, i pull all my workers from gold and put them in a burrow and forget them there. NE: I go demon hunter + archers into t2 + expansion. i have free healing from the buildings that i am forced to make for food. i get evasion on DH & tank creeps, wisps only get 5 lumber which seems really bad so i get shredder as soon as i can, i go naga sea witch t2, i get orb of venom at t3 on all heroes, i go mass bears because i like tanky healers or mass dryads because i hate enemy spells, i always have 5 workers on gold because there's a little gold bar above the mine showing how many are in mine. i still get supply blocked all the time & im always running out of wisps but this is a relatively minor issue. NE is a cool race in that I think it is better designed from the perspective of introducing me to how to play the race. ORC is a really good race but its very beginner unfriendly. As a beginner, I think some things that would have made ORC a more friendly race to play for beginners: Tutorial missions with things like "surround tutorials" (I know there is a custom map for it now but back in the day it would have been helpful), having first heal salve and speed scroll from shop be free, give orc and human the gold bars NE and undead get, split "battle stations" ability into two abilities "battle stations (1)" and "battle stations (full)" to encourage beginners to try only 1 peon per burrow, make reinforced defenses free as soon as war mill + t2 comes online. also, somehow communicate that while tiny great hall costs more, it gives a much better return on investment since extra mining happens much faster, which I never realized til you explained it. some of these are huge buffs of course but its much harder for beginners to play orc because so much of it involves knowing the race. NE upgrades enhance a race that already has everything it needs for a beginner to get off the ground. whereas I feel like orc has way more beginner traps (fortified burrows, not buying heal salves & getting them cancelled and all gold peons going into battle stations being the biggest ones I struggle with).

In Goldman’s head the game was completely and utterly lost. He kept playing but did not believe there was a chance he could win - and we all do this. As a player, you have to first understand that the game is not over, then you have to actually believe there is a chance you can win. This way you avoid the half-baked all-in where defeat is nearly guaranteed and can formulate a plan instead. Hit and run the main, snipe rally point units, create distractions. These are all better strategies than a suicide attack into a fortified expo. Create space for your opponent to make a mistake. Importantly, recognize the only path to victory might require you to claw your way back, one inch at a time, then commit to it. Or don’t, and roll over like a soggy bagel. This is the difference. Some players even have this awareness but they’re just not willing to put in the effort. “Winning the game from here would be too much work.” And that’s ok. But that’s why no one will remember your name. In summary, there are times when the game is very clearly over, but at lower levels, more often than not, it’s not over when you first think it’s over. If you can make this mental adjustment you will win more games.
