This Guy Was Never The Same After Challenging Bruce Lee

I've got this pretty wild Bruce Lee story about a Cocky Karate Grandmaster who thought he could beat Bruce Lee that I want to share with all of you, but before I jump into the story, real quick--
My name is Prince. This is Golden Bell Training. My real goal is to promote Chinese Kung Fu and to help people become better martial arts athletes, and one of the ways I do that is by sharing cool and interesting stories about Bruce Lee, but sometimes that means debunking popular myths and stories about the Patron Saint of Chinese Martial Arts.
So this story comes to us from my good friend Beerdy from the Bruce Lee Central KZbin channel.
Beerdy claims to be the biggest Bruce Lee channel on the planet, and because of his status, he's privy to all kinds of secret stories from his sources that no one else has ever heard, including legitimate Bruce Lee historians like John Little, Steve Kerridge, and Bey Logan.

Excellent. Bruce Lee was my inspiration to begin Shotokan at 13 (1973), then Taekwondo, then Aikido, then Wing Chun, then Jeet Kun Do. I'm 62, now, and still train everyday even with a 2nd set of artificial hips, a rebuilt pelvis, 6 knee surgeries, 3 back surgeries, and a stint in my heart artery. I enjoy your stories and how you check everything out. I had the pleasure of being in "Invasion USA," in 1985 w/Chuck Norris. I'm the only guy Chuck has saved and killed in the same scene. I was upgraded from an extra to a stunt double in the East Atlanta scene on KZbin. I'm the blond 25 year old in the blue Oxford shirt trying to get into the store, but you only see a quick shot of me blown away lying on the pavement.

Too bad u never heard about KAJUKENBO. Create in Hawaii by 5 martial artists taking what's practical and effective to create the Perfected art of Dirty street fighting. When people ask if a certain martial arts would work in a street fight and if asked about Kajukenbo the answer is YES. It is the only martial arts that was practiced in a street fight and only if it worked and only then it was added to Kajukenbo. This is original EMPERADO's Method of Kajukenbo. I can't say if other Kajukenbo works too but I would assume it would. American, Kuwait and Israeli Special forces are trained in Kajukenbo too. Can find thesevideos also on KZbin.

Good for you bro . I've had both my hips upgraded and am looking forward to fight training again after a decade off . Karate was my 1st formal type but had the privilege of a big brother using me for judo practice and free style ground n pound. Also did lots of kickboxing Muay Thai & Sanda in raised platform ring. Then trained younger men in pit MMA . Love the feeling of flexibility strength & cardio fitness. Pity Steven Seagull couldn't leave a single slice of pizza . He was good in his early stuff .

I had the opportunity to meet Bruce Lee at the Henry Cho ‘s. All American tournament held at Madison Sq Garden NYC. I was part of Demo team and Bruce held a center stage position and entertained spectators with skill and humorous stories Bruce. Chuck Norris and I all born on 1940 were together at the tournament in NY. Chuck won Grand Championship . Then returned to defend and retain his Tittle when he competed against me in 1968. Half a century later I find interesting how all 3 of us shared the same passion and creativity to enhance martial arts With out of the box thinking and application of techniques. I continued my career for 53 years. Now 83 years old I still work out ,Just a whole lot Slower, Ji Do kwan Korean Karate is the Best Art in my Life !

When was this? My first years were in Indiana and competing on the Indiana tournament circuit when Mr Keeny, "The Fox," was running it. My instructor was Mr Michael Branam and the senior student was Mr H Eugene Talbott. Yep, I spent a good deal of time on my knees sucking wind or seeing stars. I have a certificate signed by Mr Keeny for 3rd in the state, 3rd kyu division, after only competing in half the tournaments that year. Ended up a 3rd kyu under Mr Branam before leaving Indiana. Ended up a 2nd Dan under another instructor. During those years I had the honor of sparring with folks like AL Glover, Sugarfoot, Steve Anderson and others, who would visit our Saturday, sparring sessions, and Mr Herb Johnson who had invited our school to his for their sparring classes whenever we liked. Jake but MMA is fake martial artists who are Practitioners of self-defense called karate. Bruce could not beat a karate man in a fist fight. Bruce won one fight in is life. And that is bc the guy fell over his own feet. But everything that can be said about Bruce Lee skill level is solely based upon demonstrations that he criticized in his movie characters to make everything but him look bad. But everyone that spoke high of Lee's skill is making money on his name mostly his daughter and wife. Let me tell you about a section in my book. When Bruce got to "Enter the Dragon" he thought it was going to be protected from the Chinese Mafia absorbing him which made him a worldwide name. There was no way he was going to live after that movie. Anyway, by that time Bruce had completely destroyed his back. He was using that electrostatic machine daily to stay mobile. He could not realistically have any strenuous active more than 5 minutes without risking being paralyzed for the rest of his life. Messing with karate guys who build their bodies with weights bc the art form they practice lack what it takes to be martial arts which is chi. But l was going to tell you how he tricked the guy on the set who challenged bruce and was scared to fight him. They would not have been able to finish that movie if they fought bc Bruce would have been beaten down and paralyzed. The reason the guy challenged Bruce is bc they all heard that was Bruce"s last movie where he was going die by kuntao death touch. So they challenged him bc they knew that the death strike was untraceable. And they would blame it on the last person that fought him . That person, although that person would not have delivered the blow bc he didn"t know, he would a he been able to join their ranks as a Chinese Mafia contact. Bruce Lee was a paper tiger aka a fake martial artists. What martial art did he know?

Hi Prince, got hooked up on Bruce as we all did, way back in the 70's when Enter the Dragon first came out, it made such an impact on everyone I knew that had watched it, every body wanted to be a Bruce Lee or fight like him, or train like him, it was amazing times, took up Karate myself for several years, information about him was difficult to get hold of until the internet grew, always purchased the monthly martial arts magazines for any snippets on Bruce, one story that always comes to mind was an article about Jim Kelly, Jim mentioned that while he was on set of ETD he always carried a home movie camera and that he actually filmed an extra who challenged Bruce to a fight, I am sure Jim mentioned it did not last much more than a minute,he quick jabbed him and brushed his chin with a high kick..i cannot remember what magazine that came out of....NOW if you watch Beardy video he says Bruce knocks the teeth out of this guy and puts him in hospital.....can you imagine our Bruce doing that on set in front of many witnesses? I think much of Beardys information is BS, keep up the great channel here buddy

I think Jim said it happened? If a Guy challenges you to a fight I doubt you or Bruce would just brush his foot on the guys chin? While I think Bruce was a Dude just like me and you he must have been Par Excellent during the time of the Vietnam War and being married to a white woman to get into Hollywood. He can not possibly be normal or just above average with everyone hating him at the hieght of the Civil Rights movement and the War in Vietnam? My guess is he be beat the dog droppings out of the guy at least. I read that story too and it was not from this Beerdy Guy, but from Mitoshi Uyehara owner of Black Belt Magazine. My uncle used to do editorials for Mitoshi Uyehara back when Black Belt Magazine was located in Los Angles. Beerdy has some truth to his stories but I think he needs to verify them and also stop trying to get viewers as all of KZbin is based on this model in order for people to get paid. My Uncle who was also indoctrinated into the Black Belt Hall of Fame several times was Brendan Lai.

I was one of June Reeves students and I was at the 1968 demonstration in Washington DC and I never saw Bruce strike anybody in the throat. I am also fortunate enough to have one of those magazines from the tournament and Bruce signed it to me it says to Steve good luck in karate Bruce Lee. I still have it!

WOW ! You have some great pedigree in the Martial Arts ! Your mother studying under the great Bill "Superfoot" Wallace . Back in the day, some of us called him "Sugarfoot" after the t.v. series although he was always known as Superfoot. If you put Bigfoot up against Superfoot, back in the day, Bigfoot would have lost. Even at his advanced age, he is a force to be dealt with. Long live Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, a living legend ! He was an MA hero of mine in the 60's and 70's. I have watched him in early kickboxing tournaments, live, and his lower body movements were incomparable. If you survived his powerful and quick legs you would have to survive his upper torso throwing hammers your way. I will bet your mother has some wonderful stories to tell about the man. He was a great teacher as well. I am nearly 70 yrs. old and wished that I was in as good shape as him and being almost is not close enough. I am an old Marine vet with still an unction to function ! A FRIEND ALWAYS !

Thanks for this video! Very informative, and it’s good to have someone out there fact checking this nonsense. I was a student at Lieb’s school in Muskegon when I was young, where Lieb lived. He didn’t teach on a regular basis back then due to injuries, but he still came into class often and was still incredibly impressive and generous with his knowledge. He also had a wonderful sense of humor, just a great man all around. Thanks for making more people aware of his legacy!

I had the pleasure of being part of Demo Team in 1967 at master Cho All American competition at NYC Madison Sq Garden. Bruce was very humorous and very stage commanding. That experience was Shared by 3 men born in 1940. Young men with new ideas and passion that changed methods of training and contributed to enhance Martial Arts. Bruce gave a great Performance . Chuck Norris won GrandChampionship ..I got a chance to share the ring in a demo by my Dojang. And a year later 1968 competed with Norris for Grand Championship. These early years of Martial Arts were fantastic! Todays Heroes learned from the artists of the past. I am 83 years old . I continue to practice. But no longer Fly like an Eagle, But I still have ability to claw and bite !

Note: the "karate" guy appears to be wearing a Tang Soo Do dobok rather than a karate dogi. Subtle difference in the black lining, and yes TSD is often called "Korean Karate" and is descended from Shotokan, but I gotta split that hair. Also- it is kind of a loss from a historical perspective that Bruce never sparred (kyokushin karate founder) Mas Oyama. That would have been a dream match on the order of Capcom vs SNK.

Think Bruce Lee was in his peak at that time. Think Mas have known Bruce Lee and Bruce him very well. But first of all, Bruce was ways younger, and Mas was over the hill, in this particular time 1965-1973. Bruce was ways faster, and for his weight and height, pound for pound one of the strongest men in the planet, and one of the fastest ever, at that time. This art of Match between the two where only without rules/ a street fight or fight to death ! Think Bruce Lee have won, before the fight have even started ! Bruce had/have proclaimed in a interview, that he never will say to are the Nr 1 , but he never will accepted to are Nr. 2 !!! ( Worldwide ) Think even Joe Lewis have/had won Against Mas in this time. Mas has trained Wing Chun in his youth, and many other styles, before he later created his Full Contact 🥋 ( Kyokushinkai ) Karate. He took many good things from Thai Boxing and Tang So Do to create Kyokushinkai and helped his Landsman to create Taekwondo 🥋. ( Thanks for that.) As a Korean that lived in Japan 🇯🇵 after the WW2 . We will never know for sure, where would win, but my house 🏠 and my cat 🐈‍⬛ on Bruce Lee every day in the week & at Saturday twice. Bruce was and is in the martial arts World Legend Nr.1 !

"pound for pound one of the strongest men in the planet, and one of the fastest ever"...Please post evidence for these claims...Bruce was strong but there is no evidence he was one of the strongest men and he never competed in strength contests. He was also fast but there are many people who were and are actually recorded as faster. Dont be a Beerdy.

What most people recoganise to understand is that Bruce was FIRST and FOREMOST an ACTOR. He was born into an Acting family, both parents were actors. Now add some very good martial art skills, good looks and hence the legend of Bruce Lee. He was 125 pound 5.4" guy that lived and breathed a plan to hit the Asian martial arts movies and also ended up becoming an Icon in Western world as a Chines Martial artist. He never fought a single tournament that proved his claims.

he was a actor with some good books about martial arts and creating JKD while being a actor and dying with 32. maybe you did miss something along the line..how old are you? did you try JKD? some punches and kicks are unique to JKD and real good, and this with like 2000 years martial arts history. most martial arts experts grounding new styles or teach self defense..if they have some ambition outsida of "sparring" in a ring. this is that a tournament is in the end. bruce lee did make movies and fights without rules. sure there is no offical report on this, this is can become easy a crime.

Bill Wallace came to my locker room after one of my fights!!!! Shook my hand and told me that I was a great competitor. I had beaten the undefeated Canadian welterweight in FULL CONTACT KICK BOXING. That was way back in the 80s.

Hi my Brother and I started with Tae Kwon Do and then went into MMA. Right now we training under the Great Sensei Benny The Jet Urquidez for Kickboxing. I studied karate as child and into my teens. I never was a snob or prejudice of other disciplines. Probably because I also engaged in wrestling and did rather well. There’s so many styles and I wish I could learn them all but we only have 1 lifetime

Thanks again for all the truth and information about my martial arts idol Bruce Lee. I may have been one of the people who got dragged in by Beerdy. Besides reading Black Belt and a few other karate magazines I didn’t know much about that style I followed one of my older brothers when he was in taekwondo then aikido then got facilitated with gung fu there wasn’t a lot of places on the east coast particularly south east coast to study. Whatever my got he’d show me. I later found a school in West Germany that I did for a short while the late 70s with a friend and again in the early 80s. But “WOW” man your mother’s teacher was Bill Superfoot Wallace he was actually the first white guy I wanted to learn about. He was the greatest if not one of the greatest I never seen anyone use his feet like that before until Bruce Lee’s films started to pick up in the states. Superfoot was an artist I wanted to see more of him in the movies martial arts bouts wasn’t televised much that was boxing and wrestling thing. But Kool 😎 keep the informative clips coming of course I’m a subscriber. Oh I forgot to mention why I liked aikido and why it was fun. When I was at a class with my brother and the instructor was explaining aikido and demonstrated how to use a persons aggression and force against them I was floored. I was like I can avoid getting hit and make the other person look like an idiot oh I’m all for that. lol

Beerdy recently said that Bruce was sucker punched on Enter The Dragon and shows the picture. The picture was from a scene in the movie where the guy hits Bruce. So his lie is actually recorded as fact. This is not helping Bruce but damaging his own credibility. Bruce doesn’t need lies to make him look good. Also Bruce would never hit a guy with his arms down. And the picture shows after Bruce punched and the guy looks fine. So it’s just to get ratings.

As a Wing Chun student myself back in the day I am glad you are pointing out the truth, people who did not know me well thought I was full of crap when I tell them I trained under the lineage of Ip Man in the 90's under the same Wing Chun Academy which was founded by Ip Man I am privileged to have trained in this lineage, and it felt good when I demonstrated what I learnt on these critics, and I know Ip Man was not a man to mess with when he was around, Wing Chun in my experience is very effective and dangerous to the receiver, and the more one practices Wing Chun no matter if one is big or small the faster a person can be in a fight and the more dangerous a flurry of strikes will be, I love Wing Chun and respect to Grand Master Ip Man who even after he has passed away has helped so many people become exposed to such a great art...

GREAT content I LOVE hearing everything real about Bruce. That is some STRANGE shirt Bruce is wearing in the fight in the Beerdy image. The very high turtleneck, it appears to be hiding a sling that you can see across his front and up to the corner of his right neck, is that a gun holster, under that shirt? And there appears to be something a matrix in front over his belly button. Is that a metal cage that will mess up the opponent’s hands if he gets punched?

Ernest Lieb didn't die during a Karate training in Germany, he died during a measurement run of the Transrapid at the Transrapid test facility in Emsland (Germany) on September 22, 2006, when it hit a workshop vehicle at a speed of around 170 km/h. With Ernest H. Lieb, 22 other people died, including another American and three other german karateka.

I began my studies of karate in 1967. One thing I have learned is that the "history of martial arts" that is passed out to naive students in karate schools (I have studied at several) is often total nonsense. If you want to know the REAL history of martial arts you have to go online and find books from legitimate sources. It's far more complex than most martial artists, even experienced instructors, ever realize. And the fake stories surrounding Bruce Lee are the worst. I loved this video!!!

I remember Skipper Mullins. He was a tall lanky black belt rivaled Bill Wallace as a kicking specialist. The guy was practically all legs and very good at it. Very interesting that he took some lessons from Bruce also that’s a steroid like to hear more about

The more I learn about Skipper, the more impressed I am by his accomplishments. He faced Chuck Norris in the finals for Grand Champion at Ed Parker's Long Beach Internationals in '68 and was winning at one point. He even gave Chuck a black eye with a surprise backfist. I wonder if that was something he practiced with Bruce because, up to that point, he was thought to not have any hands.

​@@GoldenbellTraining I really enjoyed your video. As a young 16 year old in Dallas, Texas, I started training at Allen Steen's Karate school. Skipper Mullins lived in my neighborhood, and had been a recent student of Mr. Steen. Mr Steen was the first to receive a black belt under Jhoon Rhee, considered the Father of American Tae Kwon Do. In 1966 Mr Steen defeated both Chuck Norris and Joe Louis in the Long Beach International Karate Championship. I trained at this small karate school under Mr. Steen and tested for Brown Belt with both him and Jhoon Rhee grading the testing. Skipper Mullin's younger brother, Mike, trained with me at that time. Skipper went into the military, as many of us did at that time, and eventually came back. The stories about his lightning fast feet were true. Mr Steen and Chuck Norris remained good friends, and Mr Steen retired from competition in 1967. I moved away and continued to study Tae Kwon Do through the years, but later settled into a style called Shaolin Chuan Fa, which combined Shaolin Kung Fu styles with Kenpo. I became a black belt in that style and, though older now, continue to learn and now enjoy channels such as yours. Thanks for all the work you put into your research so the rest of us can learn and enjoy it.

Keep on researching Prince. Can't say I ever heard of Beerdy. I lived across from Oakland Tech in the 1970's where James Lee went to school. Their studio was a few blocks away, but had closed in the mid 1960's. I took judo with Wally Jay in Alameda. I liked the workout. Punching somebody and drawing blood just wasn't my thing, but as a slippery playground wrestler, I always went for the throat. End of story. Bruce Lee got me running on the track at Oakland Tech, after reading his reflections on that famous challenge fight at his Oakland studio when he tired out. Glad you all still find inspiration in this amazing martial artist, but don't forget to cool it. If you live in over-drive, take meditation seriously. I know Bruce's philosophic side, it drew me to him. He needed more chill time to experience the finer points of having a body-mind like water. He also liked to dress up, act rich, have fancy cars and servants. The shadow side of status is that it draws you out instead of inwards. Action is exploited instead of internalized like a true Shaolin monk. If he lived longer, beyond the point of wanting to make it, where he could also question and unravel the self, we'd see a deeper side of Bruce Lee with an awakened mind. Now that's a story worth fantasizing.
