Manga is worth reading to see what all didn't make it into the movie, also because the manga rules, but that kenma POV sequence alone makes it worth being as a movie. Maybe the coolest sequence I've ever seen in a sports anime.

The manga ruined the movie for me. I re-read the Nekoma match around two weeks before I watched the movie in cinema and honestly didn't find the movie good at all because of my own expectations for the movie after reading the source material.

I read the manga even though the movie did not cover everything, I think objectively they did a great job of condensing it in a movie. It hit the right moments and it still had the same heart from the previous seasons.

This match literally embodies Haikyuu. Themes of growth, relationships, and ultimately; good vibes. Yes, one team has to lose, but every character was just genuinely having fun in this match. Even Kuroo was laughing after the match and his career ended. This is why it's my favorite match in Haikyuu. BTW you should really at least read the manga for this match. There are a lot of excluded scenes that really made the story awesome

So coach Nekomata was there for the very first time Kuroo & Kenma went to a volleyball event together as children. I JUST COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WHEN I FOUND OUT I REALLY CRIED AND WAS OUTRIGHT IN TEARS IN THE THEATER WHEN THEY WERE THE FIRST TO THANK HIM AFTER THE MATCH. 😭😭😭 He really saw them grow up and i hope u can understand why Kuroo was so desperate to make the Battle of the Garbage Dump happen. Please remember that Kuroo really helped Tsuki and Hinata(remember their talk during training camp) and just overall Nekoma and everyone else helped Karasuno grow and evolve into what they are. Because Kuroo is an incredibly kind and loyal guy.❤
@Ozai75Ай бұрын
The two parts that get me the most in this is obviously Hinata screaming at the top of his lungs in joy when Kenma says that he's having fun. But just as close for me is when Grandpa Ukai reaches his hand out to 'shake' Coach Nekoma's hand at the same time as Coach Ukai does. Just a perfect, perfect shot.

The Battle of the Garbage Dump starts at Vol. 33; chronologically, Chapter 293. I encourage everyone to please read the manga. There are so many characters who get their spotlight, backstories, philosophies and emotional moments that they couldn't squeeze in. Imo, not including Noya's most epic save is a crime. Karasuno is fighting against the team with the best floor defense, and you don't include Karasuno's best receiver's most epic save? You'll be able to read Hinata's thought processes and see how much his game IQ evolved. He did try to escape Kenma's cage on his own by using everything he's learned so far. It's not just Kageyama trying to outsmart Kenma. Hinata's actually using his brain against our smart kitty, which makes his freak out so much more anxiety-inducing. Because Hinata has grown so much; you could see the accumulation of skill and KNOWLEDGE, but it wasn't enough to beat Kenma. An example is 45:02, Kenma knows that Hinata learned the feint back in S2, and that Hinata usually drops the ball in front. But Hinata copied this long dink from the Tsukihabara match (Karasuno's 1st opponent in nationals). Hinata baited Kenma into moving upfront and targeted the back space that Kenma just abandoned. That's when Kenma said that vball is fun because Hinata outsmarted him on his own. Kageyama has already done his job of tossing the ball. Avoiding the blocks and the final choice on where to target is up to Hinata, knowing that smart Kenma is defending the line, and Hinata just outsmarted Kenma.

@@zainulariffin7009 agreed. It's the 1 moment where I actually cried haha I cried multiple times in the manga; like when Kenma said "This is fun." Unfortunately, I personally didn't like the execution of Hinata's reaction to that moment in this movie. Every character's just looking at Hinata yelling out of nowhere and for oh so long. It didn't help that after 3s of Hinata yelling, which continued on longer, the entire theater i watched in laughed. I was disappointed by that moment, but I didn't laugh w/ them. I wanted to feel moved, but their laughing definitely killed it for me even more.

When I watched this in cinema, the animation along with the impact noises in a big loud theater gave me CHILLS. It was the same feeling I had when I watched haikyuu for the very first time. Clenching my stomach and holding my breath as hinata spiked kageyama's set for the first time. The only downside for me in this movie is that it was too short! (I wish it could last forever) Sure, a lot of content was left out, but man with the quality of animation they gave us...I'm just glad this movie happened and that I'm alive during this era of haikyuu 😭❤

I think if they had just been able to make it a LITTLE bit longer (like 15-20 minutes) it would have felt way better paced and they would have been able to fit in a few more big moments and give the ones that they did include more punch. But it was really close to perfect as is. Just like 20% rushed.

Karasuno vs Kamomedai is easily my favorite match in the whole manga. Genuinely transformative stuff at multiple levels. I REALLY hope they do it justice in the next movie and don't skip as much content as in this one. I liked the Nekoma movie for sure, animation and cinematography was incredible but they just cut too much content and unfortunately struggled to capture the true despair Karasuno felt during the first set. I keep repeating me, but idc it's worth it, to anyone interested in this beautiful piece of art called Haikyu!!, I can genuinely recommend reading the manga. You don't have to read the whole thing, just start a few chapters prior to where you are in the anime and start from there. I'm sure it will be worth it!
@tokotoko3996Ай бұрын
I genuinely think that it's going to be extremely hard to animate even half of the match considering that they will cover everything starting from Kamomedai match until the end of the story in a most likely 2-2.5 hours movie. There has never been a 3 hours anime movie and I don't think the studio is interested in breaking the record considering the runtime of The Dumpster Battle.

I know this movie left out a lot of stuff from the manga and it's disappointing for sure, but I think it was still so amazing! The animation, the music, the voice acting, the writing, it was all perfect. I was drowning in the wholesomeness the entire time, it was so fucking awesome seeing the dynamics between all the characters. Imagine your biggest rivals being your best friends, what an amazing atmosphere for a match! Honestly I could say so much that I don't even know where to start, so I won't even try lol. I'm just so obsessed with this movie, and I'm so happy I could watch it on the big screen for the first time back in July! Then I went again the next day because holy fuck! On my first watch, it felt insanely short, so I loved it even more on my second watch because I knew what to expect already. Honestly if the cinema was closer to where I live and I was rich, I 100% would've gone every day to see it until it was gone from theaters. I'm so glad it's finally available online, I immediately rewatched yesterday and literally just sobbed the entire time, I was so drained by the end of it but in the best way possible... I know I'm way too emotional about it but this is basically 4 seasons worth of buildup paying off all at once! Anyway, then today I watched it again and I'll do it again tomorrow lol. I've legit watched the whole series like 30 times by this point, so I've got some catching up to do with this movie! Also, I'm glad to see your reaction so soon! I hope you'll pick up the manga now, because I doubt they'll do the rest of the story justice, unfortunately. But it's absolute peak, so you definitely need to read it at some point!

If you would make me pick a favorite outside of the popular, well-developed main focus characters in this movie? Personally, I would choose Fukunaga as my special mention this arc. The dude gave me serious heart burn the entire game in the manga. He's like Tanaka in the sense that Tanaka has been the most consistent scorer in Karasuno for the entire show, an above average receiver too, but only got a spotlight in S4 Inarizaki. Fukunaga is Nekoma's consistent receiver who just won't quit and shows up unexpectedly ALL THE TIME, an above average spiker, and he can target with his float serves with accuracy, but he doesn't get much spotlight. When you think Karasuno scored from a strong spike from Asahi, a strong serve from Kageyama, a Yamaguchi float, a short serve, a synchro, a freak quick, a scramble? Fukunaga is effing right there. Karasuno hardly notices/comments on how Fukunaga's pressuring them, but they should have. Tanaka and Fukunaga also have high mental fortitude, but Tanaka has his heart in his sleeve, while Fukunaga is rarely outspoken except for weird corny jokes. But nothing stresses the dude at all. I'm more scared of Fukunaga than the Nekoma 3rd yr, Kai.

But for the manga readers? too many hype things got cut up, so it was a bit frustrating for me after I got out of the cinema 🥲💔 the movie put more emphasis on Shoyo-Kenma rivalry, meanwhile the manga truly showed Karasuno vs Nekoma rivalry on each character.. Anyway, thanks for the reaction! 🔥 (p.s. yes they should make a season 5 instead of movies! it's. not like they don't have the budget for it 😭 even if we wait for years, it's all fine as long as the series continues)

I really love the movie, I do, it's amazing and beautiful but I hate how much they cut, in most matches we get to know something from at least two or three players from other teams and the rest get their moment, but in this match we already knew every single member so there were no need for introduction to their character, we got something from everyone every single character from both teams, I knew they had to cut when they turn it into a movie, and with the time they had they did a fantastic job, but while I knew when going to see it that they cut a lot, and I even knew that my favourite parts weren't there I was still amazed at just how much they cut. I'll give examples, but it will sound a bit to harsh and that I don't appreciate the movie, I do, and I don't fault those who worked on it, they did an amazing job with what they were give, I'm only faulting the ones that decided to make it a movie, if you don't want to read criticism then it's fine, as I said it's a great movie, I really liked it but I do wish we had the many awsome or emotional moments that were cut. Everyone had their own moment or more that weren't in, Daichi, Kageyama, anyone from either team, Inokua had a way larger part, hell, even Kenma had more amazing moments. I feel they rushed to much the first set, we rarely get to see a full set of Karasuno losing, especially animated, they usually rush through them (like the 3 set in shiratorizawa that was longer in the manga while in anime they almost didn't show a single point) so even though I knew Nekoma was going to win that set I felt Karasuno was scoring more, until they showed the score board and apparently Nekoma was in the lead, I didn't feel that. Karasuno also celebrated waaay more winning the second set, and with reason, it was the first time they took a single set from them!! What also hurt me was the subtle change in Kuroo's backstory, in the manga it was all about him actually being super shy, even more than Kenma, the complete opposite to movie Kenma's "he was always like that", the way it was presented in the manga made me cry, I don't know it hit different. And don't get me started on the libero moments that were cut!! They usually don't get as much attention, and they cut the most coolest moments from both of them! In a match with a defense specialist team!?? There were also scenes such as Tsukki telling Kuroo "thanks to everyone it's fun" that were just a tad longer but that made it more emotional to me. And also Daichi and Kuroo had a speach that ended with "that's why we hate this guys" showing both teams smiling at each other... It just was soooo emotional to me And Kenma!! I liked the first person pov, I really do, but the faces Kenma was making, especially at Lev, they were priceless!! I know it was impossible from the get go to have every single scene, unless it was like 3 hs long, I'm aware, I'm just a bit sad that some will never read the match at it's full potential, also, I'm scared since they did that with the most anticipated match I don't know how they'll handle what's left
@francoliles189Ай бұрын
If you want more content on the game, def read the manga. They could've added an extra two hours worth of game in if it was a season and not a movie. This was a great movie, but it's worth reading too. Especially with everything they're likely to skip.

To be honest, I prefer the Nekoma battles in the manga. Still, the details that were not depicted in the manga, the overwhelming action scenes, the voice acting, and the expressions that are possible only because it is an animation and not a manga, all go beyond that feeling. I certainly prefer the manga, but I can't complain one bit about this movie as an animated adaptation of a single manga. I watch both the anime and the manga repeatedly and alternately.

I don't know, just felt sort of unsatisfying to me. Really good but not great. They didn't showcase as much of the fantastic soundtrack, they didnt give enough screentime to certain characters, they overdid the Kuro and Kenma flashbacks, and I thought the ending was very anticlimactic, it didn't have to be seijoh shiratorizawa inarizacki levels of epic, but slipping through the finger? Cmon now.

I actually really liked the conclusion. This game is all about the players having the time of their life playing against each other. So much so that at the end they dont even think about the score or the setting, all they think about is playing to the fullest. For kenma especially this means a lot. The ending is supposed to be anticlimatic as the characters themselves point it out
@tesshh1Ай бұрын
The ending for me is very realistic, as Haikyuu usually is. But the movie was waaaay to rushed, of course it's a movie, it'll be shorter, but they cut to much so I understand feeling underwhelemed, but it was actually a really hard match, every rally lasted so long, Nekoma had a lot more of strategies that worked, we got to see every single character shine, I highly recommend the manga, same with what's left, if they did this with the most anticipated match I'm scared for the ending
