Mei-Ling is literally credited as a character in the cast list during the credits. I remember completing the game first time and wondering where Mei-Ling was after seeing her name listed. Same with Johnny. Took me many playthroughs before I finally discovered her cameo. I love these little details.

@@SimbaUchihaa there is two particular moments in MGS2 where Johnny can be heard. the first is when you're evesdropping on Ocelot's conversation with Olga and Solidus using the directional mic. if you veer to the left you'll hear him talking to himself while having his usual stomach problems. the 2nd time he appears is during the sniper sequence with emma, when she goes behind the 2nd pillar as you escort her, pull out the directional mic and you'll overhear a conversation between her and Johnny where he holds her up, references what happened in shadow moses and lets her walk. fun fact she talks to herself and roasts raiden behind the other pillar and if you listen in to that conversation fully and then call her, raiden confronts her over the fact his hair's the real deal and not a wig.

that was almost definitely added by the translator, because the guy who translated mgs1 added/changed multiple lines in mgs1, and there is no way kojima would have snake say a stupid one-liner in the script, i refuse to believe it

Crazy thing is I literally just FIRST saw this while playing MGS2 again on Xbox Series X the day before watching this Video! And I was so excited to hear Mei Ling again, always wonder why they never got her again and got the voice actress for 4. I am happy I came across this codec call before this video, I always save a lot in MGS lol. Great video

Kim Mai Guest is the only voice actress to portray Mei Ling. She was credited as Kim Nguyen, as many of the cast was "miscredited", as were all of the voice cast- the reason I heard was because they wanted to avoid conflicts with the Screen Actor's Guild, because video game VO hadn't been addressed since it was so new a field. What I don't know is why they decided to have her drop the accent.

18 saves on the Tanker chapter isn't even out of the realm of plausibility for a cautious player, especially on their first run... Yet I never came across this call even on my 50th. I guess I was just shy of the magic number haha. Glad to hear Mei Ling's old voice actress once more. The stereotypical accent was part of the charm.

You should do a video on the hidden grip strength levels if you do pullups in mgs2. The character is able to hold onto a ledge for a longer time if you do pullups :D

Also you can drop from a ledge and grab the ledge under it. Counts as 10 pull ups. So you can just do the drop and grab 10 times to save time.

Stumbled upon the Codec call with Mei Ling in my first ever playthrough in 2002. Also stumbled upon Johnny the diarrhoea guard on two occasions while using directional microphone. First time when eavesdropping on Solidus, Ocelot and Olga, he is in the toilet and suffering from another bout. Second time while on overwatch for Emma to cross the oil fence she reaches a platform and is held up by Johnny who talks to Emma and lets her go "I learned something a few years ago - stay away from good looking women or you'll be hit with diarrhoea" He then suffers another bout and tells her his name is Johnny

I'm sure a ton of us knew about this, but you don't have to actually save to trigger it. All you have to do is enter the save menu then exit then otacon would say another proverb. I would do this in both mgs1 and 2 just to hear all the proverbs.

Back in the day there was no easy access to gaming information yet. The best thing I knew about was cheat sites that often had wrong information. So it was super common for kids like me at the time to explore, test, get max grip strength, and save scum to trial and error some things. I 100% knew about his codec but like most other people, didn't know it had requirements like 18 saves lol

Friend told me at school and I didn't believe him, lo and behold I was 100% shocked she was there. I'm not sure, but I think that's Mei Ling's MGS1 va Kim Mai Guest. She's still doing the Chinese accent, which makes no sense, since Mei Ling is a naturally born American/1st gen Chinese American. Twin Snakes and IV correct this, by having Kim simply use her natural voice. Fun Fact: Mei Ling is 16 in MGS1, so she's 18 during this little exchange.
