ELVIS fans are the most loyal of all fans!!! He is always fantastic! I LOVE this song...THE STORY OF AMERICA! SHUSH...Drugs is not all that hurt him! He did 2 concerts a day for 10 years plus MAJOR CONCERTS!!! Many people say that VEGAS killed him! Heredity also was a big factor in his demise. His Mother died at the same age that he did. I still advise you to dig into the rabbit hole! You really have much to learn! Excellent reaction!

His fame killed him, he was a virtual recluse at the end and according to Ginger he wouldn't come out of his bedroom in his last weeks, she had to visit him there. He was a broken man who yearned a normal life, which was impossible. The king is dead long live the King ❤

One thing about Elvis is that he never wanted it to be all about himself. He always wanted to make sure his backup vocalists and instrumentalists had a chance to shine as well! No matter how big Elvis became throughout his life, his humility, gratitude ("thankuh, thankuh veruh much"), and love for others always shone through, which was one of the secrets of his off-the-charts charisma.

I was fortunate to see Elvis live. He was 20+ years older than myself. Before Elvis hit the stage the crowd were told to try & not walk around thought that was odd, but when that man was on state I would have peed my pants. I didn’t want to blink while he was performing. The concert was beamed all over the world to roughly 1.5 BILLION Not before or since has has anything close. The jump suit he was wearing was very heavy. Elvis always perspired I’m like John Lennon “Before Elvis there was nothing

That ending is why some opera singers said that Elvis could do what they did but they couldn't do what he did because his voice and style was so unique. I saw him in concert twice the year before this concert was televised worldwide (first time it had ever been done). Excellent reaction. This is probably Elvis' finest rendition of this song but to see his peak as a live performer you need to go back two and a half years to August 1970. During this period you can hear some of his finest vocal performances in "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling", "I Just Can't Help Believing", "Just Pretend" and of course the gold standard rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Keep up the great work.

I followed his career from 1954 until he died. He was great throughout. But, to me, he was the greatest at the beginning. He came out of nowhere, and nothing was the same again. It was more than his voice. It was more that his talent. It was a time of major transformation in the world of popular music and culture, and there he was the perfect man in the perfect place at the perfect time---and he had it all! Who believes in FATE?

Elvis may have been only 4 years from his death, but he was at his very best in this consert. and even weeks before his death his amazing voice never ever failed him. watch him sing unchained melody in his last recorded consert only weeks before his death, he looked very unwell, but sand like a Lion. @@Jigsaw0g So sorry that you bought into the drug myth. He only took prescription meds. He was very opposed to illegal drugs. His heath started to decline and he had 9 body systems with medical issues for which he was prescribed meds. Sleep issues is a huge medical condition in the US. Without sleep we die. He suffered all his life with sleep issues..sleep walking, nightmares, no sleep etc. One of these medical issues killed him. He had a virus which killed nerves in his colon. This caused a condition called valsavar maneuver which led to a heart attack. The official death certificate states heart attack. when he looks like he has gained weight, it is actually bloating due to water weight from his medical condition. Many fans have bought into the rumors about his drug use His medical professionals are the reliable sources..not people who did not know about his medical conditions.Very few knew about them..certainly not his macho buddies. You should watch Sally Hoedel interview by Trey about her book Destined to Die Young on youtube Globetrotting with Trey. She can easily dispel all the myths you have fallen prey to. And Elvis is gorgeous here. His eyes were always inset.

@@margarettaylor8107 Again wasn’t meaning anything negative about it! I clarify drug use in one group personally (any overdoing of illegal or legal drugs). And also I’m not saying he was an addict or anything. It seems he had a lot of health issues like you said, resulting in a lot of meds having to be taken. And obviously at the time I can imagine the knowledge of how helpful some of those drugs were was probably very vague. A sad situation for an amazing man and artist!

Elvis was THE GREATEST! Greatest singer, Performer/Entertainer, and anything else you can think of, except maybe film star, but I think he could have made great improvements there IF he had been allowed to do more of what he wanted to do Those probably were tears at times. He Loved all music, especially Gospel music and when he preformed he put All he had into it and left a lot of himself on stage and in the hearts of those who opened themselves up to him. I only got to see him perform once, (and I was sick as a dog - but I wasn’t about to miss it) but I’ll Never forget it. We didn’t have good seats and like I said I was Soo sick, that I didn’t try to get in line for an autograph, but if I’d had Any idea that he’d be dead in a few years, I would have tried, no matter what. He was the King, he wasn’t supposed to die so soon. I thought I’d have many opportunities to see him on stage again. The King is dead, but LONG LIVE THE KING!!! There will never be another…… BTW If you’re going to do shows about him, you should look up the basic background (at least). One other thing, I gather from your intro you’re still trying for the right way to show you and your subject, if I may make a suggestion…make it half and half, if you need that much space, especially when you have a good looking singer. Elvis deserved at the very Least half of the screen. Your responses were not that interesting to me, Sorry. I know I took up too much space, but I’ve watched several of these shows lately with people trying to break Elvis’ voice down like it’s a science, it can’t be done…his voice was a gift from our Heavenly Father, you can’t explain it, just enjoy it. (I’m not saying Elvis didn’t work on it, keeping it polished and ready, he did and he enjoyed stretching it (from My research). While Elvis enjoyed has fame, he also wanted to able to go out without being mobbed occasionally, so maybe we can remember that the next time, if God gives us another Angel…it won’t be another Elvis and he’s taken Lisa Marie and her son home so they can be together, God, Jesus and Angels must be enjoying their singing. RIP Presley Family! And Mama Presley gets her precious boy back.

Elvis did a great job on his gospel music. At Graceland, I read that he was more proud of his awards for his gospel songs than any of his music. I also heard one of his back up singers tell that he would get so emotional singing gospel music, that he would cry sometimes. If you do listen to any of his gospel songs, How Great Thou Art and He Touched Me are amazing. He really pours his heart and soul into these songs.

It's a combination of "Dixieland," Battle Hymn of the Republic" and a song that was popular among the slaves. I'm 65 and when I was in the 1st and 2nd grade we lived in a small southern town and we sang "Dixieland" and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" in school. Boy, times have changed! We had so much pride for our country, flag and the wonderful south!!! It truly was a wonderful time! My husband was in the military and our daughters loved to go to the movie theater on bases because everyone stood prior to the movie when they played "The Star Spangled Banner" out of respect for this great nation and the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom! We must NEVER forget that!!!

Jane H commenting …. I have always thought Elvis looked great in 1973, but this concert was the first live concert to be beamed worldwide via satellite to 40 countries …. I watched it live from New Zealand …. & Elvis had been dieting to lose weight, plus the heat of Hawaii in the second of two days in a row, had probably made him tired-looking. Plus, he was 38 years old, so of course he would look different from the 50s & 60s. You said it didn’t even sound like him? Well, Elvis’ voice changed over the decades. In the 50s he was a teenager & in his last television appearances, before doing 2 years in the army, he was 22 years old. At his 68 Comeback Special, he was 33, & in this concert he is 38, just 2 years off hitting 40. He actually always had rather deep-set eyes, which is what gave him the sultry, heavy-eyelid look that the ladies loved so much. If you watch him in 1974, a year later than here, he looks great … in fact, he looks young for his age. His addiction to prescription meds didn’t really begin to take a heavy toll on him until around Sept 1975, when his health was poor, & he was in a lot of pain with glaucoma in both eyes (very painful condition & nothing to do with drugs), plus an enlarged heart, caused by his long-standing very high blood pressure. He also had an enlarged liver, which his mother had had before she died at 46 years of age of a heart attack. As Elvis seldom drank alcohol, prescription meds might well have contributed to that. Throughout it all, his voice, when he was well enough to sing, remained strong & beautiful. And yes, he was sweating. The heat in Hawaii, & wearing that heavy costume, was causing him to sweat a bit more than usual …. He had always sweated quite heavily during performances over the years, & a lot of that was due to the bucketloads of emotion, passion & energy he put into every song he sang.

Re whether he’s crying, I don’t know but keep in mind that that jump suit weighs minimally 35 pounds (although I’ve heard as much as 75 pounds) not including the cape. Then add in all the lights on him and you have some reasons why he’s perspiring. But you have to read Sally’s book. I’m almost done with it and I can tell you that it’s stunning.

Elvis at this point in his life, was beyond exhausted. He performed more concerts than any other human being, often doing two concerts a day. He was tired of being isolated. As weird as it sounds, he was also extremely lonely. His soul was lost. The night before he died, he wrote a note to God to take it all away, he couldn't take it anymore. He tossed it in the trash, later to found and put up for sale. I believe it was Mac Davis who bought that letter and turned it into a book.

The question if he is crying or not is not so easy to answer. First I thougt too, that it is only sweat, that runs from his forehead over his eyes down. But then I saw the video of the rehearsal. In the rehearsal he isn't sweating so much, but in the "hush little baby" passage there is one moment, where you can see a reflection in his right (in the picture is it of course the left side) eye, that looks like a tear, but is not running down. So perhaps it was both sweat and tears, we will never know, it will stay his secret.

Song 3: Was a Bahamian lullaby the slaves used to sing. So, this song includes all sides of the Civil War. Once more he was trying to unite people & never take a side to insult anyone. A very powerful and beautiful song. He looks tired here because he dropped 25 lbs & stopped the drugs to do this first solo singer to sing worldwide with over 1.5 BILLION people watching. Right. #2 is actually called “John Brown’s Body” though (John Brown being the Scottish lad/nutter -I say that in the nicest way possible, but he was insane, as the HBO series makes clear- who led the slave revolts… the Union dedicated their battle hymn to him since his revolt basically kicked off the war. Fascinating fella

I remember when this aired, the first via satellite. We have this collection Aloha from Hawaii and it's worth it. We saw him in Indianapolis at his last concert in 1977, he was huge and looked very sick but his voice was still magical and strong.

The American trilogy is one of the greatest songs ever to be written. I don't believe he was crying but if he was, it is probably because the Hawaii live was the first televised show in history and over 1 billion people watched it. The magnitude of that is incomprehensible and he might have realized it at the moment the crescendo of the third hymn which is insanely powerful in itself. I, for one, get emotional every time I hear this song. It is so inspiring that my spirit can't contain itself so I leak from my eyes.

Lisa Marie did a tribute to her father by incorporating her vocals into several of his tracts. They are so beautiful that it’s sad she never had a chance while he was alive. Her voice also has a unique sound. She was a song writer as while and recorded three albums. She didn’t really like the spotlight and chose a more private live style. Her private life however was not very happy because she would always be in a spotlight as her famous daddy and for her four unhappy marriages. However, she did have a beautiful voice and left us too soon.

From the time Elvis was young he said he knew he wouldn’t live past 42. If you watch My Way from the Aloha From Hawaii concert you see in his eyes and facial expressions that he knew the end was near. Yes, he is crying. He’s sweating a lot but he does shed tears. Great review!!!!! 👍

It’s irrelevant whether he was crying or not. He put his whole soul into his music, and sweat or tears are his genuine way of putting his love on the table! Quit criticizing, he had more talent than flaws.

This is one of my very favorite songs as well as How Great Thou Art Not just the drugs but the stress to provide for all the people around him. We as die hard fans loved him no matter what. He was after Aman with flaws as we all have. And yes he might have been crying. He was Avery spiritual MAN.. LUV HIM SO MUCH

His manager, Col. Tom Parker, mercilessly drove Elvis without concern for his well being. Parker was an illegal immigrant from the Netherlands. He had only an insignificant honorary title of "Col." in the state of Louisiana. He signed Elvis to a contract when he was barely out of his teens. His fees were known to be 50%. When Elvis returned from the Army, Parker had already lined up numerous movie deals for him to start. Elvis wanted to sing for his fans. Parker was relentless. Elvis had some health issues, some inherited. His Mother died of a heart attack at a young age. When Elvis died, Parker went to Graceland and cornered his grieving Dad, who was making preparations for the funeral, and had him sign an agreement that Parker would get the rights to all merchandising of Elvis memorabilia. He never let up, he still made profits off of Elvis long after his death.

He was using prescriptions by this point but, I think his eyes were mostly due to lack of sleep. His appearance began to change around 1975 & then very noticeable around mid 76' you should listen to "Unchained Melody" from his 77' CBS special. It was just 6 weeks before he passed.
