Hi, we bought a bread baking machine called Morphy Richards, and it has many programs, for pizza dough etc. It won a test, so we bought that. We are very happy, baking our own bread. It takes only 5 minutes to start, and after 3.5 hrs we have wonderful bread. We have discovered that these breads are more filling and taste better than store bought bread. Also this results in us being able to store plenty flour for making bread, instead of filling a freezer with bread.. Also, here in Sweden a bread costs about 3 us dollars and upwards, but our home made bread costs only a little more than half a dollar to make. Therefore the machine pays off in a very short time, and afterwards we save money. If you do not want - or cannot - make bread the old fashioned way, this is a happy solution, we think. We could have done it ourselves, but know that we probably would not... he he. Have a wonderful spring, and stay safe and blessed at Lumnah Acres!

Hi Al, a tip for improving the consistency of your composting I learned from my grandfather. When you are building the pile try to mix green and brown. By that he meant that too much fresh material tends to decompose rather than compost and dead material takes longer to compost i.e mix goat house clearings with fresh mowen grass or coffee grounds with fresh vegetables trimmings. If you ever get a big load of anything and nothing to mix it with put it to the side and mix it in a bit at a time as you add other materials. I've been following that advice for four decades without problems. Hope you all have a great day.

Al, you can buy insulation made specifically for pipes. They're like long Styrofoam slip-covers that are split on one side. Just cut to length, fit them over the pipes, and wrap with twine on top. They would probably work fine until all danger of freezing is over. If the pigs didn't eat them, lol.

If you combine those compost heaps into say two larger heaps, or single heap, they will generate more heat in the core and compost quicker. Also you can sprinkle in some septic tank RidX (an enzyme) and this works as a great starter for composting, and could perhaps help accelerate your current compost heaps. Since you have the tractor, this would be an easy task. It's really great that you are taking adbvantage of natural compost... Joe

Al when feeding the goats, have you thought about going down to the feeder and putting out most of it before getting the girls? Then just go down with them with a small amount still left in the scoop to add to the feeder. That way it'll already be there nicely spread out, AND maybe it'll also make them learn that that's where the feed will be so you eventually could just open their door and they'd just run down there to eat..

Good morning Al, Gina and Lumnah Acres! I am trying to grow my own Sugar Maple trees in my house but it would be much nicer to be outside. I will post a progress video soon but it has only been two weeks so far but they are beginning to open up! It's amazing! Because I used organic material it is causing some mould to grow so I looked online and there were a few solutions that I could have used but is too late because the maple keys are growing already. one is to use straight compost and another is soil-less potting mixture but because I planted them already I've tried to sprinkle them with cinnamon as supposedly this stops the mould from growing and is "good" for the soil as well. I will let you know how it goes. I posted some new videos on my own channel called "Living the Northern Life" and have a special Playlist (The Timber Frame House) dedicated to my journey to building my own Timber Frame House. Come check it out and Subscribe. It's not much but we are just starting out! Thanks to everyone in advance!

When you next sow in your low tunnels you should succession sow things like lettuce that don't stand for long. So instead of planting a whole row just sow a few inches, then 1-2 weeks later sow a bit more, etc etc etc then you have fresh stuff over a longer period. Lettuce is really good for that, plus spring onions, beets, carrots
