Good morning Al. I just topped off one of our wood stoves this morning. Winter is officially over when, I don't have to light both stoves.... And your beautiful wood shed is full. We just had to retrieve more dry firewood from the main farm. So good to see chicks hatching! I have been looking at these new types of incubators. Nice for the smaller hatches. In New Hampshire years past, Spring usually burst forth around May 1st. Then you will be over the top busy! We just had two surprises. Two sets of TWIN calves! Which, altogether, makes six babies in less than one week :-O. All are doing well. Your workshop and new green house are going to make such a difference to your achieving sustainability! And all on less than 10 acres. Well done!!

New Hampshire is the "Granite State" and you now know why there are so many rock fence and stone walls surrounding fields of New England farms. Great that the excavator was there to give you a leg up setting the ground posts for the high tunnel house. It is nice to see the animals thriving during this time of pandemic despite the cold and snow. Stay safe and keep healthy!

A wonderful day on the homestead. So much accomplished. I hope you can have the excavator operator back again tomorrow. What a blessing that was having him push the poles in or pull them back out to dig out yet another rock I don't think you could have put in 13 poles all by hand. This will be a wonderful green house once you're finished. Loved seeing your new chicks. Hope you get a lot of hens. Have a Blessed day.

Love the baby chicks. They really do work hard during hatching. The first hole is actually called a "pip" and they use an "egg tooth" which you can see sometimes during hatching process. The egg tooth falls off after hatch, but I think it is just really cool to see them on the end of their beak when they first hatch. Thanks for sharing the hatching's.

Rototiller scheduled for Friday. Putting in a 100 X 100 foot garden. Amazon boxes arriving daily with garden supplies. Many seeds already started in the house. I'm hoping to be able to help feed my neighborhood, we lost nearly all our peach crop this year, due to a hard three night freeze last week. It's so sad to see the orchard ranchers so sad over the freeze. It's got to be depressing to still have to care for trees that you know won't be bringing forth a harvest this year. So far a couple of my neighbors are eager to share in the garden. With the craziness in our world today, as neighbors we need to stick together. Oh yeah, the pigs...how about "Ham" and "Hock" for names.

Watching you dig up the rocks made me think of my grandparent's farm in Vermont. There is a reason they have such lovely stone walls. The original farmer who built their home and barns did it in the 1790's with just oxen and horses. My grandfather plowed the fields with a team of horses borrowed from a neighbor (in exchange for labor) until the 1950's when he got his first tractor. The Farmall Super C is still running thanks to the loving care of my uncle. Both of my grandparent's fathers had teams of horses.

Perhaps an idea for the field Goat feeder, a vertical bit of wood between the bottom and the horizontal slat you put in to discourage the goats from jumping up into the feeder. That would give them less space to get in but still plenty of space to feed. two vertical slats per side seems like it would do the trick, they could even be 1X1 slats. and a couple of suggestions for the piggie's names...RIBeka and HAMalee. :) Keep on making each day meaningful!

Those rocks are incredible! So happy for you to be getting your greenhouse going. Can't wait to see the finished product. We live in South-Central Illinois and just got our tomatoes, peppers and our onions in the garden today. Our last frost is usually around the 15th of April, so we will be watching the weather closely for a couple of weeks in case we need to cover anything. Been a cold spring so far. We have French radishes, peas, and beets coming up . Will be putting in green beans, cucumber, squash and okra in a few weeks. We have 5 acres, 25 Kiko goats and the last one will be kidding tonight. So are we have 25 new babies. We have two miniature donkeys named Magoo and Mistletoe and will be getting chickens for laying and meat birds also next week. And one fat cat named Bob. We have been gardening/small farming for 45 years. I can and freeze our produce. We grow our own beef and chickens and will be getting another set of pigs soon. Yes, Springtime is so very busy, but worth every bit of effort to have healthy food for your family. Enjoy watching your progress and your beautiful animals.
