NYC is expensive because almost 9 million people live there in such a tiny amount of land. If this city was a state, it would be the 11th most populated state in the U.S. No other cities in the U.S. can give you that type of experience of 9 million people in one city. Refrigerators really need some space around them for air circulation, in order for the compressor not to burn out prematurely. So it's not a good thing when a fridge fits in a space so perfectly. I would love to live in that last apartment if it was a few hundred bucks cheaper. It's a real cool old building right near Grand Central, the view is great, and most buildings with a doorman, elevator and laundry are typically twice as much even for the worst apartments. The whole thing is the size of my current bedroom, but I spend 99% of the time in my bedroom anyway. Just need room for a bed, a desk, a chair and a TV and I'd be perfectly happy.

Every unit is overpriced by at least $1000. Now, in the real world, it wouldn't cost you anything but your time and effort to decorate and supply it with the things you need to live a life. But because you are an economic slave to corporate rich people, you pay rent to live your life.

The last apt on today's tour is tiny indeed. But look at it this way; if you will. There are people who work in The City who commute to work from the suburbs, Jersey, Pennsylvania etc.. Sometimes, they don't want to take the one or two hour commute home. For those times, they keep an apt in The City. Furthermore, they can catch a Broadway play, have dinner and they have a place to stay overnight or for the weekend. And there are those men & women who would use this apt to rendezvous with their lover, mistress or boy toy; in order to be discreet. So if you look at it like that, and you earn enough money that you can easily afford it; why not?

Happy New Year.. NYC should be ashamed of itself, the amount of money being charged for these little ass chopped up apartments is sinful and something needs to be done about it.. I'm in Brooklyn ny and I had a friend who was actually paying $1,100 a month for a bedroom in which he shared the kitchen and bathroom with 2 strangers and that wasn't including utilities.. yet they manage to find space to build luxury condominiums in the hood where those who lived there can't afford a closet in those condos.. How is it they can find spaces for immigrants yet a native New Yorker has to know someone or get lucky when in search for a palatial apartment..

" paying $1,100 a month for a bedroom in which he shared the kitchen and bathroom with 2 strangers and that wasn't including utilities" Pretty common in major cities, if you don't make the median household income you're going to be sharing.
