If you are having problems getting into a strong deadlift position, consider: 1) Opening your hips (by pushing knees out) 2) Rotate your feet outwards slightly 3) Select a slightly wider stance A stronger start position= a stronger finish. Who's liking these tip videos?

Thank you!!! I just started deadlifting conventional in April this year and instinctively had a slightly wider stance, feet turned out and knees pushing out but I thought this was 'wrong' even though it felt right so I have recently been trying to force myself to do it narrow, straight feet, straight knees and was wondering why it felt so wrong! This video was very very helpful for me. Thanks again.

I made this change on my own about a month ago and it made a HUGE difference. That would be my number 1 tip, play with stance width and foot orientation.
@dailyhacks46342 жыл бұрын
This morning I was thinking about this pushing your feet outward or generating force in that direction . Saved your back and helps you lift heavier
@louderthangod4 жыл бұрын
I recently went to a slightly wider stance (crest of tibia right at the start of the knurling and it got me easily through a 20lbs PR. I noticed more power off the floor and an easier angle for lockout since I felt I could drive my hips better. When I do deficit deadlifts I still like the very narrow stance because I get a lot of glute and hamstring work.

Omar, Thanks for all the content. Can you do one of these for squat positions alternatives? No matter what positioning I try squats are uncomfortable and lead to some form of nagging pain. (Too narrow, feel it in my back. Too wide, feel it in my knees. Too low, feel it in my elbows.) I think I have messed up bone structure like the elephant man..... actually, I bet that dude would've had a monster squat... anyway... I've been at it for a year. I've got a 1rm of 405 lbs. Which doesn't sound terrible until you factor in that I'm 6'1" at 255 lbs. The y,know... it sounds pretty flat. I want to get it up over 600, but everything hurts at the weights I'm moving now. So.. help a brother out and do some old fat guy tutorials for those of us with corresponding limitations. Thanks for everything. Your videos help a lot. Keep doing your thing and I'll keep supporting you.

I started doing proper deadlifts and squats almost a year ago and I play football for my uni on the side and at the end of the year I got this hip injury from outta nowhere and didn't know what could have caused it so I figured it's probably football since I'm switching direction all the time and putting a lot of load on my hips (I'm a wide hip boi) and didn't know what to do but today I realized that I don't actually have anything serious as an injury and the reason the injury appeared is because I got better at the gym lifted more sometimes with bad form till I perfected it and all that heavy load from doing deadlifts in an unoptimal way combining it with football overtrained my hips and I exhausted them and now I am on a road of recovery but it hurts like a bitch. Thanks for the video Omar,love you from Bulgaria yeet

Omar!! When i come to my main heavy conventional deadlift set, like 5rm or 6rm, i feel my lower back is not perfectly neutral (slightly rounding) although no problem at warm up sets. I think maintaining flat back in heavy conventional deadlift is extreamly difficult. Should i do sumo or trap bar?

When you DL, between the reps are you fully letting the weight settle back to the ground? Or do you keep some tension and pull again?
@robertyoung4064 жыл бұрын
Usually let the weight 100% sit back on the ground. This way, you're lifting it from a "dead" weight position (aka deadlift)
@billaros10004 жыл бұрын
I''ve had to deadlift with shitty 1 inch hole weights recently, forcing me to basically deficit deadlift. I kinda figured this out naturally and I don't think I've rounded my back since. Definitely recommend deficit deadlifts to force yourself to go deep enough that just compensating won't cut it

If I use anything wider than shoulder width (and I have very narrow shoulders) it kills my inner thighs and I can't walk right for days! Narrow stance and I can almost deadlift everyday! You can also raise the bar slightly using narrower stance as you are lifting the bar higher which helps with technique.
@jasonpark68084 жыл бұрын
Omar, can you please help me understand what “having your body OVER the bar” means? Does it mean to have your shoulders on top of (or even in front of) the bar when you look at yourself from the side view?

hey Omar is there any benefit in your opinion from doing the conventional deadlift in your Position USA shoes? anecdotally, i did some for the first time this past week and i FELT stronger and my pulls felt like i engaged my quads much more and thus were much faster and cleaner than in a regular, flat shoe...

You know I just did deadlifts today and I have been doing them for a while but my issue is I keep trying new shit for some reason. I used to deadlift like that and my deadlift was improving but now I do it with foot facing forward and all that and its gone stagnant. Maybe this is was the reminder I needed. I always have that issue where my upper back will slightly round and I always feel exhausted whilst my muscles are actually okay especially my legs. I feel like I been inefficient and "leaking" energy by putting extra energy for the lock. I never understood why it's so hard since I can very easily get 415 off the floor with legs but a bit above the knee when I go for the lockout it's tough and it's all keeping me back. Thanks for the video, sorry for the paragraph.

What do you think about bringing the butt down super far like Olympic lifters? For beginners I wouldn’t suggest “squatting” the weight, but for an advanced lifter does this technique allow for more force or are low hips a power leak?
