I just got my first leverless and it’s a huge upgrade over the standard console controller. I used to get terrible wrist or hand pain from those small/stiff d-pads. The leverless just feels so comfortable to use and helps you do complex inputs.

They can actually be had for mega cheap from AliExpress and even amazon stores in some instances. Can also DIY your own. There's been a massive influx of cheap flatbox controllers since introduction of the Raspberry Pi RP2040 and the hard work of people like Jfedor2 who've kindly made their innovations open sourced. There's also ways of allowing PS4 support natively if you tinker with these RP2040 based controllers' online client, and you can also use adapters from brook, mayflash, 8bitdo, etc to allow support for other consoles. The barebones controllers that lack RGB lights and LED screens are usually also the easiest to update firmwares on if needed. Leverless controllers have finally gone from pricey rarities to low investment/low risk items nowadays if you know where to look.

Pretty cool controller and the video was very on point. Imho, the mini screen for settings on corded devices is a must have for any customizable product. It's crazy how rare it is to see even on custom keyboard. And even there it's usually some useless info, or at best a connection mod, device id + time. The current implementation of setting make a lot to be desired though. It could've been so much better if it was just a 3-5 buttons nested menu instead of this 10+ combinations of non descriptive buttons. With each new leverless controller it become increasingly more obvious that the angle they use for the right hand needs to change. The reason you cannot reach the top right button when you shift hand to the bottom 4 is exactly because of this weird non human ergonomic for people with pinkie as long at point finger. It's okay when you need to press only one button for every finger, but completely horrible when it's two. It's absolutely possible to make a 8 button layout where you can press every one of them without moving you hand. You can even make every two button combination possible if you widen some buttons to 1.5-2u.

I moved the 6 base attacks to the right and put the DI and Parry to the first 2 attack buttons on the left. This way I can activate all Parry functions with my right thumb, the DI with my right index and don't need more than the usual 8 attack buttons.

Hey NihongoGamer, thanks for turning me on to All Button Controllers: I picked up a Hitbox clone after watching your videos and it is amazing how I don't suck at fighting games anymore ... I have never had the wrist dexterity to accurately pull off haduouken motions, which largely locked me out of every fighting game besides Virtua Fighter.

thank you for giving an exact reason for why hitbox and keyboard should be banned. fighting games were designed around sticks and other controllers you cannot press socd. also to do a haduken you press ↓ → on a keyboard or hitbox skipping the ↘ input. on a stick or pad you have to hit all ↓ ↘ → directional inputs to do the move. and don't even get me started on how movement is completely unfair on a keyboard or hitbox. controller made for a specific advantage.

I do think that the socd stuff that sf6 patched was good because that was genuinely providing an unfair advantage. But apart from that there's not much of a real advantage in them.

I thought about a hitbox, but am most comfortable with pads and have spent a few hundred on them (Razer Wolverine Ultimate version 1 and 2 for XBOX and Victrix BDP for PS5). This hitbox kinda makes me want one. I like the little LED screen so you can see the inputs as you do them. I'd be even more interested if it was bigger though.

there are options for larger sized pads - razer kitsune, haute42 t series… i got the haute s series and it looks about the same size as the one in this video. It is a bit small for lap play so I ordered a T … will see which one I like better and return the other one.

haute pad T16 also has these buttons, they're literally a life saver (ingame). in T8: 1+3 on left extra, 2+4 on right extra. SF6 they're really usefull for parry and DI. Looks like this controller uses the same GP2040-CE board as the haute pad. Which also has PS passthrough to make it PS5 compatible with either an officially licensed PS4 fightpad/fightstick or a dongle like mayflash magic-s ultimate.

Comparing against's Haute42's products (mainly M16 series) at cheaper price points, I would say going for the steelbox is preference. The only steelbox benefits I see are larger menu buttons, user replaceable artwork, and internals supporting a separate plate + silencing foam (similar to custom keyboards). I do wish Sagaklabs made an XL verison like the Haute42 T16 because Haute42 doesn't have an XL version of their M16 (metal housing). I also think the steelbox could benefit from being another 1-3 inches wider because I find the snackbox micro more manageable on the lap at its compact size. Because of their experience with custom keyboards, it's also a missed opportunity for Sagaklabs to offer different plate/pcb mounting system (like gasket-style mounting).

Why are these flatbox pre-builds, that are shown by big FG content creators, so expensive? When you can buy them cheap off Aliexpress? This is $140, a Haute42 G Series is as low $35 for the G12 and around $45 for the G16... What's so special about steelbox that it costs two to three times more?

Yeah i left a comment asking him to review the Haute42 controllers. The G series seems to be the exact same thing, but a third the price. I think they just have access to production lines in China allowing them to eat the lunch of these small scale western companies.

Keep in mind that all the electronic parts are produced in China, so the reality is that the western buyers have been ripped off. Haute42 cuts the western middle man and produces its controllers and sell them at affordable prices.

I just got mine today and am so impressed. I have several hitboxes right now and this is my favorite. It's very heavy and solid. Only negative I would say is that the SOC modes always work on the same buttons, so if you map your movement keys to anything else, the original directional keys are going to be effected, and not the remapped keys. Kind of a bummer for me with how I play. Still looking for a way to remap buttons via firmware and can't figure out how on PC. I see the shortcut for config mode but it just takes me to a general raspberry pi website. Wish there was a configuration tool on the website to remap keys. Other than this though, very very good little controller. Definitely not getting rid of this - ever. I'll always find some use for it even if something better comes along later.

I like my pinky to have a button on my left hand, so I move my movement buttons over to the right 1 button, and use the A button as my right dpad button. My pinky button becomes a shift modifier under which I can remap the entire layout to other functions. It feels perfectly natural to play this way, and I don't use the W button for up anyways, so I use that as a Home button. I remap buttons 1234 to the top buttons on the right hand, to emulate the feel of the JKL; keys on a keyboard. The lesser used buttons R/L/RB/LB are the bottom row, but of course, every game is different and I have custom layouts (and custom sticks) for various games @@flodderr

Ugh I reallllly gotta tone it down with the controller purchases but I did buy one of these. The extra buttons are just too useful, my one gripe with leverless so far has been that my pinky is really short and I struggle with the furthest action button. Nice to see people adding this functionality.

For hitbox, I think it as least should have one button on the left or right of the jump button. So two of your thumbs have buttons to press without moving them.

I recently created my own controler based on my layout on a keyboard. That's exactly what I did. But I also added two pinky finger buttons. There's almost zero delay between my reaction and my pressing those buttons, since my thumbs and pinky fingers are constantly resting over their dedicated buttons

Those do exist check out the keebbrawler and keebfightees from Mavercade. I have one similar to the video except L3 is left of the left direction button (left pinky button) and R3 is on the right side of the jump button. It also has an extra up button above the down direction for a wasd type layout (remap it to touch pad to be tourney legal) all buttons are fully customizable if you connect it to ur pc

sorry for noob question but I dunno how to google it. How am I supposed to do double-quad circles for ults in SF6 with lever controller? Like, it's incredibly hard and slow isn't it? I want to dive into SF6 (bought it and Hori RAP4 arcade stick) but don't want to use Modern controls coz it's make no sense to play fightings like this in my opinion, but hell the stick combos are insane. Do I need to spend like 10 years to muscle memorize it? Or just throw away stick and buy buttons controller?

Lol i used to do it on a beat up xbox 360 pad. If I can do that you can do it on an arcade stick. Just practice, its all muscle memory. It takes time but not 10 years of time. You'll get it in a matter of weeks.

Not a noob question at all. Even after months of playing many people find it difficult. It helps to be conscious that you’re limited by the speed you lift your fingers off the buttons after pressing them. Keeping your wrist raised also helps to prevent undue tension in the fingers and allows you to roll your wrist if necessary.

​​​​@@gcole6The controller itself (the PCB) is more important than what kind of buttons are on the outside. If you only want to play on PC, there are utilities that can map MIDI inputs to keyboard inputs. Some Osu!Mania players do this to play the game using MIDI keyboards. For console, it is theoretically possible to convert MIDI to Xinput through software running on a separate device (like a raspberry pi or similar) that then passes Xinput on to the console. But you'd have to write that software and configure the hardware yourself. (Edit: and you'd run into authentication problems with current gen consoles) Or I guess you could rip out the guts of the MIDI Fighter and replace them with a game controller PCB, but then it would just be a (very expensive) game controller.

Hello. I'm one of the six other people. I built a stick using the builder kits for exactly this reason. Those kits can be inverted. Pretty sure you can do that for leverless too

No you're not lefty and may just have realized that those layout weren't right, on guitar right handed people play the rhythm with the right hand and pick the notes with the left one, the logic would thus want that on a controller you do your movements with the dominant hand and actions buttons with the other one. That's why some keyboard users use a layout with movements on the right.

Nothing works on PS5, it's a locked platform, at that point just buy an adapter because when you're buying a playstation licensed controller you keep paying a tax to SONY, at least the adaptor is paid only once although expensive

i dont know how much longer i can continue to play fighting games for knowing nearly every person out their is looking for a controller to use to make them better destroying the spirit of the game. screwing up directional inputs is a part of the genre and keyboards and controllers like that ruin the spirit of the game and make it 10x harder and difficult for any one using a stick or a pad and it just sucks. every time i see someone Korean back dash to the end of the screen in like 2 seconds i take a deep sigh and go fckn hit box... then i end up just standing their while they side step and Korean back dash wave dashing all around the place for 2 rounds and think to my self i would be physically dead if i did that for that long on a stick. were as on a keyboard or a hitbox your hitting 3-4 buttons with basically 0 effort. its going to get to the point were you have a hitbox with 60 buttons on it made for a specific character with lines of combos sett in the button configuration so all you will have to do is pick a line of buttons press them all in a line to lay out a massive instant kill combo. we at least need rules and regulation in the competitive lvls

You're exaggerating. Hitbox is just a niche controller and is in no way popular enough to be used by most people. Most that will buy the games would be using a gamepad (or a PC keyboard if they're on PC and have no pad). Hitbox is only used primarily if you're on at least semi high to high level play.

@@ZX3000GT1 why do you think capcom pro tour banned specific hitboxes ? wen capcom finally understands what ive been saying i would not be surprised if hitbox and keyboard are banned entirely from a professional setting. as i said you literally skip an input on keyboard or hitbox to do a hadoken or wave dash. its an unfair advantage. separate the control types in tournaments or ban lever less completely pretty simple.

​@@roastytoasty8559Capcom only banned controllers that didn't conform to the specific SOCD rules. The rules are very clear about what is allowed and what isn't. You are allowed directional buttons as long as SOCD is neutral for U+D and L+R. And you are allowed the extra buttons - the game let's you map them to all of these macros of course.
