I thought people were taught to not sit on rail tracks and intersections in general during their driving instruction. Seems like a few have forgotten. Great content as always, looks like Avenios are a lot of fun to drive, I'd almost want to learn Dutch just to drive these 😅

It's definitely not allowed but drivers are basically able to do anything they desire once they get their license except severe traffic violations. Because there's not a lot of enforcement and the fines aren't extreme either, people guess on the fact that they won't get caught.

Hello from an American subscriber! Very interesting to see the cab controls. I have a few questions... 1. Do you accelerate and brake with foot pedals? 2. How do you know the speed limit for the section you are in? 3. Are switch settings decided by a central control system through an on-board transponder?Or do you request a direction? Bedankt!
@TramMeneer8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment and support! To answer your questions: 1. Yes! The Avenio has foot controls. 2. The speed limit is 50 km/h everywhere, but we have limits of 15 km/h on switches and 25 km/h at platforms and intersections. The speed with which we drive through curves is dependent on our own judgement. 3. We have a transponder on board which communicates with the switch installation as we approach it. Hope I have answered your questions!

What are the two buttons on a flat panel to your left, with what looks like a lever switch as well. I notice you pressing one of the buttons (right hand one) quite often. Is it some kind of "dead man's handle" that you have to acknowledge frequently to allow the tram to keep moving?
@IgnoreMyChan8 ай бұрын
The buttons do from left to right: - The lever: Indicator. You'll hear beeps when it's active and you can see the indicators blinking in the mirror monitors - The left yellow button is the 'regular' horn. You see him use it for the for the ** audi at 3:20 - The right yellow button is the 'bell' that he sounds regularly to alert traffic and pedestrians of his present.

Interesting "tram gates" that swing open. Are they to stop motorists driving on tram-only sections? Do the gates open and close automatically?

Yes indeed, it is to prevent cars from entering part of the city center. Only with a permit it is allowed to enter. For the trams they indeed open and close automatically.

@TramMeneer8 ай бұрын
We are taught to use the bell to make people around us aware of the presence of the tram. Nowadays, there is many drivers who show unexpected behavior or go through a red light for example. Using the bell is just a safety mechanism to warn people. Rather more than less in my opinion...

i think that there should be a government rule in all countries that a tram goes first, that they should not have to use their emergency brake or normal brake on pedestrians and vehicles, in Prague, the cars dont give a shit about the trams, they just drive right through them. There has been a lot of crashes and near misses with cars and trams in Prague, and i like that The Hague has their trams going next to the cars mostly on the routes.

OK, I have questions. Do you have to wave to every other tram, or are you just that nice a guy? How do you stop at the right place each time, because 90% of the time you all stop perfectly by the marker for me to get on with a wheelchair. And switching from 16-15, is that automatic? Oh and do be careful with all that pushing buttons with your index finger you could get RSI of the finger. Thanks, for the videos, and for the safe journeys.
@evilborg8 ай бұрын
1. Every country I have been to all public transport drivers wave to each other... no idea when this started 2. There are markers and side cameras that show the drivers where to stop... markers are different in each country/city 3. Likely automatic

Most of your questions were already answered by @evilborg. As drivers, we don't see each other so much during the day. At least by waving to each other, we have some interaction 😉 Switching from 16 to 15 and vice versa is done automatically!

Over here in Britain we couldn't lay 2 sticks flat in the road without it costing billions, take a decade to do it then be late in planning, have the Chinese build the dam tram without a clue where the tram and the type of streets or environment it's for, go now where it's needed, have the political parties argue who should take responsibility, try claiming the awards, the fight against each other when it all goes tits up because they pointed the dam sticks rhe wrong way, and finally blame everyone on benefits because there's no jobs in manufacturing in this country anymore only dam gready banks
