To celebrate 15 years of the original iPhone, I pulled out my not-so-average 2G. Thanks to some technical wizardry that I performed 5 years ago, its currently running some prototype Apple software that was used during the iPhone's development. Let's check it out!

@@Redstonedust-rc9nr this is cool because first time i've ever heard of it, the actual operating system though is just sad, pretty much what i've seen is kids desperately trying to sideload games and apps via apple ids which are locked more often than not or chinese certificates that revoke after 2 day and takes weeks for a new one to leak out, i used to be one and it made me absolutely despise this os. I have a pc now and the freedom is just wonderful, never will i touch apple products again because you know it's "traumatizing"

Even though it's REALLY OBVIOUS, I wonder if the "Welcome the the Newton MessagePad 3000" isn't actually a joke, but is in case somebody found the device. Then it would throw people off "this is the leaked iPhone" and instead it could be just a really small new Newton revival. I dunno I'm drunk.

@Clint O'Connell a lot of late 2000s androids also didn't cost nearly as much as the iPhone did. Most that cost the same as the iPhone or more I remember having metal and glass construction. As some who’s a User Experience Designer (and User Researcher), this experience of using the iOS testing software on an iPhone 2 is pretty awesome to see. It’s fascinating to play around a more rudimentary, under construction UI used to test out interaction concepts on the phone but then have to provide the space for programmers inputting commands with a desktop/keyboard, which is interesting to see on the screen. I think that’s one of the better solutions that Apple software and hardware teams had to have come up with if they were separated (which seems kinda ludicrous honestly).
@flp322

Apple is infamous for being secretive like that.
@rachel_sj
@rachel_sj 2 жыл бұрын
@@flp322 Yeah, some things never change and I think that whole division of teams is leftover from past development project plans and they really didn't know too much about how to integrate both experiences into one like we do now. Just another interesting indicator proving that 2007-2008 feels even more like the past than ever! 🤣

Think about it though, if anything got leaked they would have a perfect paper trail to follow. To the outside world it would just look like new software update for Mac, or just a new gadget to be used within the facilities, but inside they’d be able to narrow it down and hold whoever accountable.

The Operator screen is actually way more interesting. You should be able to tap on any of those icons and see all the tests. This would be used by "operators" in the factory on every single iPhone made to make sure all the sensors and other things were working. For example, if you tapped the Speaker icon, you would hear one of 4 different INXS songs, and you had to tap a button to indicate that you heard it.

WPA2 was released in 2004, the same year that the iPhone started development, so it would make sense, but in the WiFi menu, it has WPA2 on there, so most likely WPA2 was implemented in a later version, but was being implemented in the version that was leaked.
