On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-14-23.
We're looking at a 1971 Plymouth Cuda in Butterscotch Paint. The car comes with the 383 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Tanya. Tanya’s grown up here whole life in this car, and her Mother gifted the car to her in 2011. She shares she’s a Muscle Cars Girl. What would you want to share with other women about how you feel when in this car? She said the feeling she has listening to her cars exhaust is as exciting as hearing the heartbeat of her baby’s ultrasound when she was pregnant.
If you’re interested in learning about the different events at the Carlisle Events, go to the website at www.carlisleevents.com
ENJOY!

Very interesting video. Saw a movie called "Tommy Girl" about a girl that worked in a garage and had her own muscle car. Tanya reminded me of that movie. My sister had a 71 Barracuda with a slant six. It wasn't a muscle car, but it was still fun to drive. There are a lot of differences in the two cars I noticed a difference in the instrument panel, of course my sisters car didn have hood scoops, billboard, spoiler, or shark gills. You didn't spend a lot of time going over transmission. My sister's car had a slapstick automatic. The gears were 1,2, and D. You could put the gear selector in 1st gear and as you drove hit the selector with the palm of your hand as hard as you wanted and it would go into 2nd gear. You could hit it again and it would go into 3rd gear, or you could just put it in Drive and it would shift automatically. They also had an optional pistol grip gear shift. This is a very nice car. I think the 71 grill was the best locking of this generation of the Barracuda or Challenger lines. Actually I liked the Barracudas better than the Challengers.

This car has a great story and glad to see that it was in a family for a long time, lovingly. Glad to see another.... woman (no surprise to me) into this era of muscle car. So glad to see an original '71 Cuda 383. Nice color combo too. I remember these well. Out of all of the muscle car's my father bought during these times, he didn't get a Cuda. But almost....got a Challenger Convertible in Red with white top/white interior with the 383, this year. Go Tonya!

¡Saludos cordiales, Lou!

The 383 engines are very good power plants. They had excellent durability and very good power output. They also are not as thirsty as their larger cousins, the 440 and the 426 Hemi. A modern owner can drive a 383 car to a show without emptying the kids' college funds.

Great car! As a coincidence, I was in central PA this past weekend, but not for the Carlisle meet. Drove by the fairgrounds on the Turnpike and we also saw a lot of great Mopars on the road. My first car was a '71 Barracuda that I bought in 1977 for $1200.00. It was a bone stock 318 with a 3 speed manual on the floor in T-5 Bronze. I put a set of ET aluminum slots with 70's on the front and 60's on the rear....it was a real looker. I have a soft spot for '71 Cudas, and selling it was one of the dumbest things I've ever done. Glad to see Tonya taking such good care of a family heirloom...hopefully someday her little one will get to be the caretaker of this car....great story too!

Great family heirloom… I’m jealous! I got handed down my moms 72 Pinto when I was 17 lol. Needless to say it’s long gone, but using the Pinto as a high school beater did help keep my 70 Challenger I bought when I was 16 and which I still own, off the salty roads winters and on other bad weather days! Hate to nitpick but the 383 Magnum air cleaner pie tin is a Dodge thing. Plymouths said 383 Super Commando. Correct repo pie tins are available everywhere like Classic and Year One for about the price of a fill up at the gas station.

That is one fantastic 1971 Plymouth Barracuda with the butterscotch and flat black paint scheme! Equipped with a 383 CI engine with Torqueflite automatic transmission. It's been well taken care of, and it sounds healthy going down the road. This came from the period where Mopar made some cool looking cars, and this Cuda is no exception! Hello again, Lou! What an interesting story you have done on this 1971 'Cuda! And best of all, it's woman-owned! (You have done stories on women who own vintage cars; love to see more!). The 'Cudas (as well as the Dodge Challengers - and I'm not including those being made by the company now known as Stellantis) are getting ever so more rare with each passing year. I'm so happy for Tanya; she has something special there and I hope she keeps it in the family. Let's hear it for Tanya - and all the other lady enthusiasts! This hobby is not just for the guys! I'm not sure if this is the car but I can say with complete certainty, I got a chance in 1978 to drive this or another cuda exactly like this one. All the options, color, motor, trans,billboard, was the same as the one I drove. It was just north of Boston, in a town called Wilmington, it was owned by the parents of a friend from hockey. I was the first of my friends to get a license, and they let me take it for a weekend. The one thing that tells me this may not be the one is the fact it was in Boston area with salty roads, however the last I heard back in 1980 was my friend Herbies family moved to Canada and the cuda was left in a field. I remember it was raining that day I drove it, and I would drift (fishtail back in the day)it every chance I got.

1971 Plymouth Barracuda. The Plymouth Barracuda for 1970-1974 removed all commonality with the 1964-1968 Ford Mustang and replaced it with the 1970-1974 Dodge Challenger. This meant that it shared the same body and same engines, albeit with a unique design different from the challenger. For the 1971 model year, it was the only model year of the Plymouth Barracuda to have two headlights on each side for the front fascia. It was available with engines such as the 383 "Super Commando" engine as shown in video. The most powerful engines were Chrysler/Dodge's 426 Hemi producing 425 Horsepower and 490 Pound-Feet of Torque and a more fuel-efficient, reliable, and cheaper variant called the 440 Chrysler RB. It made 50 less horsepower (375 HP), but made the same torque as the 426 Hemi. It was also in the Challenger, Charger, Dart, Polara, Fury, and more.
@matthewpaanotorres7309
@matthewpaanotorres7309 11 ай бұрын
The car originally started 2 weeks and 3 days before the Ford Mustang (It was introduced on April 1, 1964, which was before the April 17, 1964 Mustang) and featured a unique design, but with different engines. It sold poorly, only selling a fraction of the Mustangs due to it's too early appearance in the market. This makes it the first TRUE pony car.

I really like your car foxy lady, including the restoration, and the original color. You really need to replace your dashboard, including reinstalling the original factory AM/FM MX stereo, plus removing the citizens band radio, and reinstalling the factory Goodyear Polygas GT 60 tires or Firestone Wide Oval. Hey big bro LOOOOUUUU! Whoosh....Whossh......THWACK>>>>>>>THWACK!! Go my super floppy sneakers/Robin slippers by my big brother's handsome smiling face, landing against a big oak in the distance, as you ride in Tonya's supercool 'Cuda lol 🤣🤪!! I'm knocked out COLD and in my tubesocked stocking feet 'n calves, 300 yards back, waiting for you to throw me in the Batmobile when ya have a chance ol 😂😝🤪! I hope you are having a great summer, Lou. I recently got back from an awesome trip to SC (Myrtle Beach, Charleston area) with friends. Wearing my minor league Carolina baseball team caps, my shiny white, minimially laced, tounge straight up DC sneaks flopping off my stocking feet with every step....but good to be back and seeing your awesome videos again. Tonya's Plymouth 'Cuda is so gorgeous (the '71s are the best, no doubt) in butterscotch with the black stripes? AWESOME....as I can feel my DC's getting yanked off again as I type this....definitely what happens to perpetual, somehwat lightweight, chick crazy and very Robin-like JV baseball guys like myself lmao 🤣😂...thanks for your awesome slices of automobile life, Lou!!! 😄JV Johnny ⚾⚾

Chrysler had the style thing going in the later 60's and 70's. Beautiful car in a not very attractive color (IMHO). The color looks like American Cheese. Eww. Regardless the car is stunning and another hit by Lou!
