When you are over qualified for a job, you will need to dumb down your resume! Only put your high school diploma down as education and little to no experience. Do this for fast food and retail jobs. You have to do what you have to do!

He isn’t over qualified, the McDonalds manager saw the attitude this guy had and knew it was going to mess his crew up. If you go to a fast food place and tell them you need a job asap to get on your feet they will turn you down because it takes a couple weeks of training to get you up to speed only for you to bail for a better job. What you need to do is tell them you will stay there “x” amount of time and will help train your replacement when it’s time to move on.

This is a tip to the caller. Go to businesses in your area such as, gyms, hair salons, fancy restaurants, etc and offer them monthly video packages for their social media. Cliff Notes: 1. Degree in "mass communications". 2. Makes about $50k as a "videographer" 3. Has about $140k in debt. Never says what that is comprised of (student loans, credit cards, car loans, etc.). 4. Divorced with four kids. Sounds as though he tries to do right by them, but feels he is a "cash cow" for the ex wife. 5. Has tried to get part time jobs, but told he was "overqualified". At McDonalds?!?! I call BS on that one... 6. Has tried to do a side hustle with the videography, but doesn't seem to be worth it. Again, I call BS on that one... Basically, he had dug himself into a hole. Got a degree with little economic value, had four kids and now an ex-wife, and now has a "woe is me" attitude. Not much is going to change until the attitude changes.

I have a similar degree and used to be in broadcast news. My degree is in Radio, Television, and Film. I am well paid. SOME of I have done include photography, videography, write commercial scripts, write articles, write copy and take photos for brochures and websites, write press releases, write speeches, directed short films for nonprofits, manage social media pages, and crisis communication response. and I have shot a lot of live action sporting events. I have had more occasions of people approaching me for side work than the other way around because they asked around. One major reason I don’t make a whole lot more money is because I usually have full time employers who require me to get permission before taking on outside jobs to avoid conflicts of interest and because I am usually a “face” of the organization. . I know many fellow videographers who keeping a lower profile in their full time gig and are well paid from freelance. I’m not just talking about wedding stuff. They can do voice over work where I can’t. A lot of my videographer friends freelance for sports networks, concert venues and the like. Think about it. Anything type of business that travels usually finds it cheaper to hire qualified locals than to lug employees around the country and pay for their lodging and travel. I myself have done freelance live video work for hockey games and shows but I never did it on a regular basis because I didn’t need to and had other ways I wanted to make money. People would offer me money to take their kids senior portraits and I declined. But it’s like you work a couple of hours usually and walk out with money. Nowadays I chose to do my additional videography for my church as a volunteer. Several of us have News backgrounds especially the production directors.

Telling an employer that this isn't your forever job you are just looking to earn some extra income instantly disqualifies you for 99%+ of job opportunities. They don't want overqualified candidates because those types of workers have choices and opportunities that are detrimental to the business.

You're right, if you're talking about an entry level position, or a career. McD's doesn't care about longevity. What they want to know, is will you show up if you're scheduled. What availability do you bring? Are you willing to learn, and work hard while you're there. These positions are typically temporary, and they know it. They want a reliable worker, and that's what you need to convince them when you apply.

I spend less than 200$/mo on gas. My grocery budget includes dog food, toiletries, alcohol, and cleaners. I buy organic, grass finished, pasture raised food and my budget is 1200/mo with a family of 6.... and it hasn't changed since before covid. My house is 4300sqft with a pool and 2.5 car garage and my payment is 2k/mo. I used to rent rooms out of my old house and it paid my mortgage and part of the utilities every month. This man needs to get a roommate, find a cheap place to live out of town, and stop buying convenience items. He's not sticking to a budget. He's not meal planning. He's needs to pay his child support and follow his divorce decree to a T. He needs to tell her no if she asks for money outside of that. If his kids are suffering then he can take them to a church and get some clothes, ask for help, let his family know what his ex is doing, or take her back to court and representing himself. I lived on less than 3k for years. He needs to hone in that budget. If the milk is going bad and he's throwing it out.. he needs to stop buying milk or switch to Almond milk that lasts way longer. Organic bananas last twice as long even though they are slightly more money. He needs to plan and budget and learn to be a smart spender. Buy your kids' clothes at least 1 size bigger. I buy socks and underwear 2-3 sizes bigger because the shrink so much. If your kid is tall and skinny go to old navy and buy slim jeans 2 sizes bigger. Hold your kids accountable... when they rip or stain their clothes explain to them why they need to take care of them.

And it is NOT flat-out lying as some have suggested. Everything I have ever put on an application was true: I did graduate from high school, etc. Flat-out lying is saying that you have a degree/experience when you don't. Tailoring resumes/applications to the position applied for is a pro tip. Irrelevant info dumps waste employers' time.

Were they applying for stated part-time jobs, or just out looking for anything they could get? I assume the jobs were advertised as part time. When a person applies for a job, it's best to put things in terms of what they can do for the employer, not what they "really need and want."

This is exactly why marriage and starting a family is so risky for a man nowadays. Over half of modern American marriages end in break up (about 80% initiated by women). This man will now have about half of his paychecks garnished for many years to come via child support. This doesnt include the splitting of assets, his pension, alimony payments and divorce lawyer fees. No wonder he is 140k in debt. The only way out of this is to leave the country, establish direct communication with his kids (excluding the mother) and sending the kids whatever he can. If not, he will just live out of his car working 2 to 3 jobs till he dies from a stress related heart attack. Ive seen this scenario play out hundreds if not thousands of times. Surprisingly, there never seems to be a shortage of men who sign up for this.
@jodylarson4697
@jodylarson4697 11 ай бұрын
You've seen this hundreds of not thousands of times? I don't think so. Men need to support their children, and I get tired of hearing all the whining. Don't want to have to pay for your children? Don't have any. Don't want a divorce? Don't get married. This is so basic!
@boston312
@boston312 10 ай бұрын
@jodylarson4697 if you read my post i advised the man to still keep in contact with his kids and send them what he can (child support). Unfortunately, the way the current system works is you send the child support to the mother where she has free reign to spend it on whatever she wants (the new boyfriend, her nails, shopping on herself, etc) with no way to hold her accountable.
