I think his death was his immortality getting undone and his real age catching up to him. Assuming the Gorosei are given the immortality when appointed, Ju Peter is by far the youngest Gorosei when appointed, so I wonder what he did to deserve the promotion. Garling is the champion of God Valley so he already has the hype so maybe all the Gorosei have done important things to earn it. Also, the fact Saturn died and the Gorosei have stated that Luffy’s fruit was a myth to them, that implies that they may not have been around for the entire 800 years, there may have been other Gorosei before them who also got demoted and killed, and if so I wonder what they did to cause that

So Imu’s power is to control the shadows, they have many shadow creatures. That’s why there is a smiling face in there when the shadow leaves cause that’s the beast he transforms into as well. All you one piece KZbinrs said when those shadow monsters attacked sabo that those were the 5 elders and I knew you were wrong since then. The monsters looked nothing like the 5 elders transforming in egg head. Those were Imu’s created shadow beasts that attacked sabo and we have so much more to see from Imu. Truly going to be jaw dropping to see their full powers.

The one thing I find strange is how absolutely no one in the story has commented on the fact the elders have lived for so long without dying, not even Vegapunk who has met them long ago in the past, or Dragon who aims to take down the Elders eventually. Like I know that in One Piece, life expectancy is higher than in our real world, but still, we’re talking here about the same elders being around for over 200 years minimum.
