The bass player singing lead on this, Randy Meisner, just passed away about 5 months ago at age 77. He was known to be a very sweet and nice guy. His spirit and singing will be missed.

I'm just old enough to remember when this song was new. I remember being on the school bus (3rd or 4th grade), and this song was playing in the background, and you could have heard a pin drop. Total silence among all of us, because we were all grooving to this song.

the best eagles song - glad they enjoyed it!
@mjfanatic42 Жыл бұрын
first video i've seen of yours. love seeing the younger generation listen/appreciate the classics. one tidbit of this song. this song used to cause strife within the band because randy meisner (the main singer of this song) had trouble belting out the lyrics, especially towards the end, which was very taxing on his vocal chords. the powers that be of the band (don henley & glenn frey) used to give meisner a lot of shit. so when you see randy belt the "ahhhhhhh" at the end, notice the reaction of frey and how excited he gets and puts an extra umph on his instrument. keep it up!
@ClaytonTownley Жыл бұрын
I didn't hear about the singing being a problem with his vocal cords (no h), rather Frey and Henley wanted him to sing it because the fans wanted to hear it. But Meisner hated the spotlight and sometimes refused to sing, and Frey was insistent. I don't like Henley or Frey, but they were right. If Meisner wanted to be a rock musician in a huge band like Eagles, he should've sucked it up and performed it every show, for the fans who paid big money. Anyway, RIP Frey and Meisner.
@chriswilliams598211 ай бұрын
If you watch the documentary on the eagles glen frey tells the story of how terrified Randy miesner would panic when he had to sing this song to close the show because he was so afraid he wouldn’t hit the high notes. Rest in peace Randy. You never missed.

So if you can imagine, Randy Meisner (the lead singer in this song), was really shy about singing solos and this was actually his last tour with Eagles. I mean, WHAT a voice! This whole concert is really worth watching, "Hotel California" and "Take It Easy" feature two other of their members singing lead. They sounded just as good in person as they did in the studio. Great reaction!

Wasn't that why he left? Didn't like being the front man,and they pushed him into it?
@margaretross91503 ай бұрын
@@stevetokeley6542 They pushed him to do it even when he wasn't feeling well. But it was more than that. Incessant touring and bossy behaviour by the two pushy, selfish members of the band.

He got fired because that high note became more and more inconsistent and he became obsessive about it to the point where his nerves would make it even more difficult for him to do it every night. Frey berated him over it which didn’t help and he was essentially chased out of the band because Frey was pretty aggressive and Randy was just a gentle soul. Poor Randy RIP This was also their first real “hit song”

Randy co-wrote this song with Don H. and Glenn F. of the Eagles. Before he was in the Eagles, he was in a band called Poco. He also did some solo work. IMHO, the best of those is this one... kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWTNd5R6oqhkqpIfeature=shared
