I wanted to like Bunsen is a Beast. I really did. But I just couldn’t get into it. At first, I thought the episodes were ok. But after a while, I got tired of all the screaming, especially from Mikey. Mikey should have been more of a straight man than just getting excited over every little thing that happens around him. That way he could contrast his silly world. I might give it another chance later, but for now, I don’t have the time, energy, or interest to watch that show.

Kind of sad to see the last Nickelodeon show Butch Hartman created turn out to be such an uninspired cash grab of a recognizable name. Joking aside, I am glad Butch Hartman left Nickelodeon and hopefully the elf detective will be good. I never even heard of this show until people on KZbin started listing it on their "Top X Worst" lists. I looked up the wikipedia page and all of the plot summaries for the episodes sound awful. Special note goes to "Bunsen and Mikey save Amanda from sneeze beasts that come from Bunsen's nose, but they end up going to a taco truck, a lemonade stand and the beach." Like...what? That sounds like an eight year old's creative writing assignment for school.

Danny Phantom, Fairy Odd Parents, and Tuff Puppy all have a very constant style that lets you know its a Butch Hartman cartoon, but this show, it really looks like the people at Nick were like, "Hey, Hartman can you make a show with that Adventure Time style of character design? It seems like those shows are what's in now and milking money." I know a person's style can change, and people should be allowed to experiment with styles, but somehow, IDK, this just doesn't feel like his style at all. In fact if I didn't already know it was Hartman's creation, which I only know because that's how Nicktoons promoted it, I would have never guessed he made it. Aside from that, I never seen a full episode to judge if its good or bad.

I hate the floaty-ass flash animation! It's *TOO* fluid! What makes it more jarring is seeing these old characters that were portrayed with snappier movements moving with more subtle, frame-by-frame movements. Oh my lord. Seeing classic FOP characters done in god awful Johnny Test style Flash puppet animation is just heart breaking. Fairly Odd Parents was a huge part of my childhood and a major driving force in learning how to draw as a kid. I remember seeing those old pilot episodes on Oh Yeah cartoons way back in the day and loving them. Those shorts were hand painted on cels the old fashioned way and still look 100 times better than this crap. And before anyone says "Flash is just a tool you can use it to do amazing things blahblahblah" Yes I realize this and it is very true. But the thing is Flash is SO OFTEN used to cut corners and produce cheap, terrible looking, lazy animation that it has understandably earned a bad reputation.

We really did have it better in the early mid-2000s. DP (before season 3, anyway. I heard they had to scrap what they were originally gonna do with it after Marmel left, and that it would have gotten somewhat more dark in tone culminating in a final battle between Danny and Dark Danny. I think that would have been more interesting than what we got.) and FoP (before seasonal rot anyway) were really good shows that I still love to this day. I was never really into Tuff Puppy (it was fine, but never really watched i regularly), but it seems well beyond Bunsen is a Beast.

Fairy Oddparents, Danny Phantom, and Tuff Puppy, all kicked ass. Bunsen is a beast, was kinda just stuck together at the last minute. It didn't have the fun, and entertainment, and style, and storylines the other 3 Butch Hartman shows had. They should have did the 4th crossover, I read about online some years ago called "where's Poof"? it was another crossover with Jimmy Newtron and the 4th one in all. But they ended up not doing that, and ended up doing one with Bunsen.

I would want to see more Bunsen is a Beast, but in a way why should it? You know; Amanda got more personality than Bunsen and Mickey. Her character is way more interesting being that her voice brings her character out. Plot on character infliction is too harsh. I would recommend less bashed on the character. I would suggest using it sparingly. If only there was a show of Amanda and Beverly (her assistant). I could see comedy from that! Like *cough cough* RICK AND MORTY!...

Wait a sec, so using up Wanda's wand too much makes their magic go out? Wow! I knew the later seasons were bad with plot convenient rules, but this is plain LAZY! In other FOP episodes it showed Timmy was suppose "or allowed) to make loads of wishes. Remember the beginning of Timmy's Secret Wish or any episode where he wished for a load of things? In fact some episode plots had it mandatory that Timmy makes a lot of wishes. This show doesn't even try anymore. This is almost as bad as the "We Lost Our Wands" gag, which is the worst gag of the whole show in later seasons. And Cosmo just does it as an offscreen joke. Remember when Cosmo was absent minded, yet was still self aware if the situation applied to it? Along with some good wordplay jokes. This special is just incredibly lazy and FOP was used as marketing simply to get viewers to watch Bunsen. This entire special can be a combination of everything wrong with both shows. Also remember when Crocker was funny? Now he's just overused and forced. And the fact that it breaks the show's biggest rule in that Fairies can't have their existence revealed otherwise they go away just speaks volumes of the quality. Season 10 does that in every episode. Now Cosmo/Wanda can be seen by anybody as if it's a natural everyday situation.

If there is one thing I like about the show, it's the concept. As Bunsen Burner says, he's the first monster in a human school, but Amanda doesn't like that so she tries to kill him. Kinda dark, but I like the whole inclusion angle. But there's just one problem. One teenty tiny little problem. I'VE SEEN THIS KIND OF THING BEFORE! Zootopia did the whole inclusion aspect much better than this. It's about Judy being the first small police officer on the force and she has to deal with prejudice and proving that she can be valuable by playing to her strengths. It's an admirable goal, but it also helps that it has adorable animation and pleasant voice acting. Bunsen is a problem, never mind a beast. The show is even more obnoxious than the Felix the Cat film.

You know, Bunsen was supposed to be a picture book. Now I know that wouldn’t have made it the best thing ever, but I think that would’ve been a better option for it if it had to be made, instead of it being a lazily made show with crappy animation and terrible voice acting, I don’t think it’s the voice actors fault, I just think it was really bad direction.
