In FM I'm playing as Nottingham Forrest, it's only the 2nd year and I'm 15th in the prem while Conte's spurs are in the relegation zone after 15 games. I've also formed a rivalry with Conte because I asked him to shut his mouth in a post-match conference when he was talking about VAR, I play him next week, cheers TIFO

It's actually Skipp who has been getting forward more with Hojbjerg holding in recent games. Much like Kante and Matic in Conte's Chelsea team, their main job is to keep things ticking over in possession and then when out of possession they have to win it back and try to play it quickly to one of the front three. I agree the weakness in the side is that Emerson isn't very dynamic and doesn't seem to have the confidence to run at defenders. Also Moura isn't at the same level as Son and Kane and with the creativity and goal burden being with that front 3 I wonder with Moura can get enough goals/assists over the course of a season.
@jopearson6321
@jopearson6321 2 жыл бұрын
Whenever I've watched Moura I've always been wowed by his technical ability and skill. He's wonderfully talented. I could be wrong, but my impression is that its in the mental side of the game he's not quite elite. He's not lazy or uncommitted, but he seems to lack the true convinction and doggedness that you see in top wingers. His movement is also only decent for this level. I feel he the right manager and environment could transform him into a ferocious talent, even at this stage of his career. Perhaps at Atletici under Simeone. Though Conte isn't a bad shout in fairness.

I think one of the core tenants of this system is that the wings are overrated, and the main battle is for the middle. That's why you only have one wideman per flank, so you can have an extra man centrally in both attack and defence. That doesn't mean the widemen aren't important. Indeed, the extra responsibility means they have to be excellent players. However the extra man at centreback means that the defence can be more aggressive because there is extra cover. Additionally, you can two dedicated specialist shields/progressors without becoming too bogged down. The three central-ish attackers are meant to provide a variety of threat combinations. Ideally you want a mixture of profiles, including powerful forward, a pacy dribbler, and a creative maestro. But basically the more well-rounded the attacker, the better. Ideally, you want your forward line vertically staggered for maximum chance of jeopordising the defence and making it impossible to hold a decent offside trap: one man on the shoulder, one man in the mix, and another in the hole. Meanwhile, whilst the team isn't afraid to press, the trigger will come later than some teams, with the idea being to prevent leaving space in the middle, and to catch the opposition on the counter. I think the tactic is a reaction to 4-2-3-1 more than any other.
@adn17
@adn17 2 жыл бұрын
Wonderful analysis. It's true that this philosophy focuses on the center of the pitch and makes good use of the flanks. Contrary to the 442 diamond, the 3 at the back formation have the wing backs starting further up the pitch, while having the center back cover. One of the best formations to learn.

Nice job. Although I would pick up on one particular issue and that would be lloris's distribution really isn't very good, I'm a huge fan of his and think his one of the best 'Keepers in the Wolrd, however his distribution is his biggest weakness. What has been very evident under Conte is that Llrois has almost been eliminated from our build up from theback, the passing maps show big volemes using the CB's but there's been a decline using llrois. Another aspect that looks very interesting, not seen as much in the last 2 PL games is the use of the double pivot, where both would drop deep, either side of Dier allowing Dier to bring the ball out from the back and play some very progressive passes (100% Romero would be better suited to this, but great to see Dier also heavily involved), where we did this all game was against Leeds, think it was because Leeds went man for man and this enabled Dier to be freed up as almost a deep lying play maker, straight out of Atalanta playbook. Keep up the great work!

Hopeful that PEH, who I presume has tested + for Covid, can now get a bit of rest. He's been running on sheer heart for weeks. Skipp appears to be developing a good working relationship with Dier but also finds time and space to get forward. You can see Conte is very happy with both these players by the way he talks about them.

Frank Kessie and Joachim Maehle would be 2 great picks for Spurs. Both Serie A regulars that Conte is familiar with, both highly dynamic and used to his tactical system. If it's a more traditional holding midfielder he's after, I guess it's always worth trying to pursue Brozovic - 1 year left on his contract, with a club in an uneasy financial situation... and 29 years old. Could easily grab him for less than 30 mil.

Excellent video and, as usual, highly informative (even for a Spurs fan who's seen most games). Just pick up on one point, Lloris' distribution. He truly is one of the best shot stoppers/savers in the world, but his distribution is appalling. He always tries to float or chip the ball and opponents know this and intercept all the time. I can't understand why the Spurs goaly coaches aren't all over this. It's a measure of how good he is in the traditional facets of keeping that I think it's a no brainer to offer him a contract extension, and he's a leader and world cup (captain) winner.

You’ll see N’dombele play his best as one of the two behind Kane. Less defensive responsibility and leaves him create and drive forward. He played his best football as a no.10 early last season before mourinho pushed him deeper for some reason. I’ve rarely seen a player who keeps the ball as well, he has seriously underrated technique. Fitness not the best but playing him further forward makes that less of a problem. I like Lucas (and I felt Mourinho wasted Bale) but he’s not consistent enough. Would also like to see the Lo Celso of two years ago back - Nuno made a mistake of playing him as an attacking midfielder when he’s actually played his best football as part of a double pivot, even if that’s not how he made his name (reminds me of Modric’s initial struggles when he also came with a number 10 reputation - ended up playing his best football in an unfamiliar role as a deep lying playmaker). Having three at the back also offers the extra defensive solidity to make it worthwhile - I fear we’ll struggle in the long term relying on Skipp and Hoijberg for creativity - though I understand why Conte has played both, trying to stop the collapse and fragility and instil a mentality of solidity in the team.
@chu2ks2dfutur
@chu2ks2dfutur 2 жыл бұрын
Ndombele holds on to the ball too much and wants to dribble in that position, not a Conte trait. I believe Conte wants to play him in CM to advance the ball and pass better, but it's not happening. I feel Lo Celso suits this more, and Ndombele may find himself out of the club soon. I would like to see what Conte will do with Bryan Gil.
@os17312
@os17312 2 жыл бұрын
@@chu2ks2dfutur Would be very sad to see Ndombele leave the club. He's by quite a distance our most talented midfielder, and is up there with Kane and Son in terms of raw talent. I can agree that he holds onto the ball too much which can slow down play, but his ability to keep the ball under pressure is very useful when playing against any pressing team. I think he could moderate that tendency through some basic coaching, and I'd also like to see him drive forward and score more goals.

Good analysis! Couple of things: I think the reason hojberg isnt as dynamic as barella is mainly due to the difference between 2 or 3 midfielders. In the game against Liverpool we saw that dele could make those runs in the attack and that he putted pressure on the defenders of Liverpool. With a 2 man pivot conte just want them to cover the space in the middle and not get too much out of position. I think the choice on those two systems will relay on the choice between lucas or dele/ndombele/lo celso. Secondly, Romero would come in for Sanchez, not Dier. Dier is the type of defender Conte plays in the center, with rodon as backup. He wants a player that can divide the play from the back, is good in the air, organizes the defence. On the side he plays with faster more versatile players who, as you said about romero, defend more agressively forward, being covered by Dier. Sanchez, davies, romero and tanganga are those players. Therefore sanchez and romero battle for the position on the right.

Great video... There are a number of opportunities to improve Spurs. The whole back line can be improved. Davies, Dier and Sanchez are nothing more than mid table PL defenders. The fact Conte is getting clean sheets with them is impressive. Spurs also need either Hojbjerg to improve as a box to box midfielder, or bring one in. It's safe to say Skipp is the best option in the defensive midfield role. Spurs can improve on Ermerson for sure, he's more of a defensive full back. Suited to Mourinho/Nuno, not Conte. Lucas doesn't score enough or create enough, so that is a point that needs looked at. Last but not least, another option up front. Spurs have Kane and Scarlett, so there needs be another option for sure. Plenty of room for improvement with Spurs.

@@ElFlippage Hojbjerg isn’t as good defensively as Skipp though. At all, the stats don’t lie. Plus Hojbjerg is an excellent box to box midfielder for Denmark so he either needs to find that form for Spurs or get a better option in. For Inter all of their midfielders were capable of passing and getting forward which is why he’s working with Skipp on his attacking side of the game.
